Just what I was looking for– a fish market! All kinds of fish at very good prices, and the people were all really nice. I was a little unsure about driving out there(I don’t live very close) so early in the morning, but I think it was worth it. We ate so much fish in the following days, I’m actually sick of fish, which I didn’t think was possible. I can confidently say it was likely the freshest fish I’ve ever had, BUT it wasn’t all super fresh– the salmon and halibut were a bit soft. The tuna was great though. Still, for the variety and prices, I would definitely go back. Still fresher than I ever find at the grocery store.

Over-rated. Why are you selling frozen seafood also?

This is your one stop shop for all your seafood desires. It almost seems that this is a little kept secret from the locals because I haven’t seen this place advertised anywhere. I’ve learned about this place from word of mouth from a relative. Anyway, back to the point. This spot is only open on Saturday mornings from 4am to about 7:30am, times have been confirmed since I spoke with one of the cashiers. Attention: Ladies and gentlemen, leave your Jordans and your Gucci shoes at home, the floor stays wet from all the ice melting from the fish containers. There is about 5 bays open for you to travel in, so make sure to visit each one before you make a purchase because you can not bring any bags/coolers into any of them. You have to leave all bags/earlier purchases at the door(on the ground) and hopefully nobody will snatch your goods up. So far, I haven’t had a problem with it, everyone around seems pretty respectable about other peoples property. This is a CASHONLY spot, so make sure to hit the ATM prior to arrival. I think the last bay lets you use a card, but the other bays only except the presidents. They have both fresh and frozen seafood, and they sell all by the pound at fairly cheap prices. There is salmon fillets for 4.99/lb, whole salmon at 2.99/lb. Fresh squid at 99 cents a pound(on one occasion I found it at 50 cents a pound) They also sell Tuna, Tilapia, Halibut, Baracuda, Yellow Tail, Scallops, Lobster, pretty much everything. They also provide fish cleaning/slicing in one of the bays for a small fee per fish. The bags they provide for the fish are pretty strong, you pick out your own fish by hand, but they have these little bags to put on your hands so you wont get all slimey. There are boxes and foam coolers for you if you need them, not sure if they charge for the Styrofoam coolers though, never had the need to use them since I live pretty close. They also provide free ice to pack your coolers for those who are traveling from afar. So that’s pretty much it. Enjoy this little gem and pass it on to all the seafood lovers out there! P. S. If you’re in town for the rest of the day, check out the San Pedro Fish market located down the street from this joint. I went there for the first time today and they have some pretty decent seafood, made to order. Unilocal that on your way out! Peace!

I’ve had a growing curiosity with sushi recently and decided to try to find the source of all the pricey sushi I eat in restaurants. Well, a google search led me to these markets in San Pedro. Apparently, there is a line of fish distributors down here in San Pedro that deliver local catches to restaurants and markets across the SoCal area. They’re open to the public only on Saturdays around 4am-7pm. You’ll see a lot of the common fish you see in a sushi restaurant. Salmon, Tuna, Yellowtail, Red Snapper, Mackarel. by the whole fish! Expectedly, they come at great prices. I snatched up a block of cut albacore for about $ 10 or I think $ 4 – 5 a pound. You can also find a lot of other common fish like Tilapia or Sole. Some markets also have crustaceans like crab, mussels, clams, oysters and of course your squid and calamari. State Fish Co, is the first store you see coming from the left stairway entrance. I found it to be the biggest stocked store as well as the busiest. My next stop. LA Fish Co!
