Great Mexican food at cheap prices. Seriously, the tacos here are the best kept secret in San Rafael. Better quality than the overpriced Mexican food around Marin, but cheaper than Taco Bell. I suggest you drive right past the other similar looking Mexican restaurants and stop here.

Horrible services food is ok. Cash only. I work close by and I have to call ahead order since I don’t have time on my lunch break. The lady that works there doesn’t speak English at all. Which I don’t get why she answers phone knowing that its not ONLY Mexicans ordering. She never ever ever get my food right. I’ve tried several times(been there about 4x) thinking oh just one of those Days. Tried again yesterdat I asked for burrito with steak she kept thinking I said tacos. Yea not going back there. Horrible business.

Open 7am to 10pm, this cash only restaurant is simple in menu and packed in taste. With quick service during lunch and to go options, your made to order meal is sure to please. Order a few things to taste the menu and to have a full meal. Try the gorditas and tacos.

It’s a nice little hole in the wall nothing fancy and nothing pricy. Some of the people don’t speak English which is fine. If u know what u want and are friendly you will enjoy the food. The people are nice and the food is good. Quick convenient cheap to go

A hole in the wall restaurant that I’m sure most San Rafael residents, or even Canal residents don’t even know exists. The location at night is less than flattering, but the food inside is as good as Mexican food does in San Rafael. I settled for the quesadilla with carne asada. The meat was very fresh, juicy, and flavorful. Served with avocado, sour cream, salsa, a lime wedge, and a fresh jalapeño. I couldn’t ask for more! But do brush on your Spanish, cause the workers here don’t speak a word of English. Nada!

I came back and tried to order a sope with just refried beans, cheese, cilantro, and onion(Very common Mexican sope) and they looked at me crazy. «Sir we don’t have refried beans» Well I’ve never heard that one before at a joint serving sopes. No refried beans? Really? This was my first clue that these folks aren’t chefs but merely short order cooks following a handful of recipes. Any chef knows that refried beans takes a couple of minutes to smash some normal beans in a skillet and«Wallah» it’s done! «Ok Ok so no refried beans just give me what you got. Please.» So they put some dripping wet pinto beans on my sope and covered it with cheese and salsa. It was edible but I was upset because the sope crust wasn’t nearly as good as it was the first time I was here. It seemed to be a lot more greasy and bland. So yea I guess that’s the moment it hit me to throw up the deuce«Adiós Oscar y Buen Suerte.»

Oscar’s is a place where the clientele is as fresh-off-the-boat as the food. They still must be acclimating to the weather up here, because it was pushing 65 °F when I went in, and they had the heater blasting away as if the next ice age had arrived. And it wasn’t one of those little space heaters that farts out tepid air, but one of those 100,000,000,000,000BTU fire-breathing dragons that melts your hair if you get too close. The food is exactly what I would expect from the look of the place. Think street food in a good way. Authentic. Simple. Cheap. Downright tasty.

Oscar’s is one of the best and least known latino restaurants in San Rafael. It’s a local hot spot for the inhabitants of the canal, but nobody from the outside ventures here much. The burritos are delectably unique, with lots of meat, prepared right before your eyes. I say unique because in addition to the usual chicken or beef burrito, there are more traditional choices like my personal favorite, puerco con nopales, or pork and cactus. The burritos tend to be spicy, and whether take out or eat in, are served with a side of pickled jalapenos, so you might want to ask them to hold the salsa if you happen to be of a mild palate. The service here is incredibly friendly. Taco Oscar’s is rarely patronized by customers form outside the canal, not because of the quality of the fare, but by its obscure location. The local’s love it and I have never seen the place with any less than 10 customers inside, lunch or dinner. If you are looking for something authentically delicious, it is well worth the effort to seek this place out. Bottom Line: Delicious, Cheap, Authentic
