What a pleasure meeting Kim. He offered me solid advice on how to care for some antique flatware my wife inherited. Namely, best to hand polish antique sterling. Machine polishing will shine it really bright but will round the detail, which hurts value. So best to hand polish and then store in special silver bags & box to prevent future tarnishing.

First off, blessings to Jackson’s Hardware(just down the street) for suggesting Pilgrim Plating. What an extraordinary find! I do not offer this praise lightly.. . Kim is the real deal — passionate about what he does and deeply gifted and experienced in his craft. I purchased a house with beautiful 1940s front door brass hardware(entry set and speakeasy — small window that you open to see who is outside) that hadn’t been cared for in years. It was badly tarnished, been painted in parts and was beginning to etch. I brought the pieces, without much hope, to Kim for a consultation. He smiled, said no problem, and we made an appointment for the work. I just picked them up. They are STUNNING — soft rich warm satin nickel — more beautiful by leagues than any of the newer sets I was considering when I thought these couldn’t be saved. And what I paid Kim for his magic, was a fraction of the cost of a far inferior newer purchase. Even the old screws are glowing satin nickel! I’m hooked. Searching for additional items for him to transform!

It was a challenge to find a company in the SF Bay Area to polish aluminum at all, let alone one that does high quality work at a fair price. I feel very fortunate to have found Pilgrim. Kim is great!

If you need to have anything replated, don’t waste your time going anywhere but Pilgrim Plating. Yes, it’s a hike from the city, but it will be well worth your time. Kim’s workmanship is of the highest caliber with customer service to match. And guess what? My piece was ready when he promised it! When was the last time that happened? Seriously, this is the place for all your plating needs. I am one happy customer! Thanks, Kim!

I have taken several copper items to Pilgrim Plating to have them restored. These were pots and trays that I felt were beyond repair and were ready to be tossed in the garbage can! Kim worked his magic on each one and I was thrilled to see these items transformed. Kim is a skillful craftsman and a perfectionist in his work. I am thrilled to have discovered this wonderful little shop in San Rafael. Fabulous service at very reasonable prices.

I’ve had numerous items polished and restored by Pilgrim Plating. The owner Kim is a master craftsman and a real gentleman. Kim is amazingly knowledgeable about metals and if he can’t do a job he’ll tell you. If he says he can do a job then you can expect it will be done right. He closes in the early afternoon and starts early in the morning. The hours listed on Unilocal are correct so you can check them here prior to your visit.

I’ve been taking plating projects here for years, and have always been very pleased with the results. He’s not cheap, but the workmanship is very high, and in this case, you DO get what you pay for, He closes shop in mid-afternoon, so be sure to check the hours before you drop by.
