I would give this place half a star if I could. We walked in and the hostess gave us attitude for not having a reservation, even though every time we have been there there is literally no need for a reservation. I have never seen this place more than half full, I don’t understand why she was rolling her eyes and giving us attitude. After finally sitting down, we had our drink orders taken and then didn’t get our drinks for another fifteen minutes. There were five waiters there and they were all running around like chickens with their heads cut off, each of them dancing around looking like they were trying their hardest to avoid our table. The waiter didn’t take our order for another 5 – 10 minutes, and our appetizers didn’t come out for another 30 – 35 minutes, no apologies at all or anything, and our food 10 minutes after. We waited a total of an hour and a half for dinner. I get it, sometimes the kitchen gets backed up, but the table that was the same size and ordered similar appetizers to us got their food served way before us, and they showed up 20 minutes after us. The waiter did not give a single care about us and definitely showed it, I never got a refill and my sister who wanted her water refilled by the waiter with a pitcher refilling every other table, never got her water refilled. If I could review the place just on the food, a solid four stars, but unfortunately the service was just horrible and doesn’t warrant any kind reviews at all. I felt so disrespected here and I’ve never felt like this before. Usually the staff is attentive and friendly, but today was not acceptable and we will not be returning for a long long while. Do yourself a favor and go to Applebee’s, you’ll get better service.

My husband and I go to the Range Café at beautiful Peacock Gap Golf Course in San Rafael religiously every Friday evening for their fabulous $ 1 oysters and Happy Hour drinks! We have been going for about 3 years now, and we have to say that ever since Todd took over as Manager of the café, everything was stepped up a notch. The service, the food, the music above all. The oysters are just they type I love — small, delicate and creamy. The mushroom ravioli is mouth watering. My husband loves the Chico tacos with onion jam. They are really delicioso! They have $ 1 and $ 2 oysters every Friday & Saturday and I think that has been a great draw for the restaurant, as oyster lovers love eating as many oysters as possible without the $ 3 to $ 5 price tag that you get everywhere else! They have nice music on Fridays and Saturdays. Love the Chime Travelers especially. We love the servers — Omar, Alejandro, Eden, Michaela, and Cesar!

We used to have lunch here after a round of golf and then the food got so bad we started going to other local restaurants after our game. Today we were pressed for time and decided to give them another try. I’m glad we did. The food was great as was the service. Many good choices on the menu with reasonable prices. I’m not sure why they changed but it’s all for the good. I look forward to going back.

Really really really good grilled portobello mushroom«burger» with Swiss cheese and house made basil pesto. Root beer float, too!

Delicious food. We sat outside on the patio with our dog under an umbrella. I enjoyed a watermelon margarita and the yummiest fish tacos. Like the BEST fish tacos. My man liked his Cobb salad. Angel and Miguel provided great service. Very attentive and kind, with great senses of humor. I wish they had waited to bring out the entrees until after we had finished our appetizer(ceviche), but that’s a minor detail. We recommend this restaurant and will definitely be back!

We live in peacock gap and love supporting the Range! We always make excuses for bad service, dirty tables and unprofessional staff every time we go because we WANT a neighborhood spot to go to and support. I get it there is an «after golf rush» but garbage on the floor, filthy tables and disgusting bathrooms is unacceptable and just plain lazy on the staffs part! Please make an effort! I would love to invite friends out from other towns because it’s a great spot and really good food but everything else needs MAJORWORK! There was literally garbage on the patio around our table tonight and food ALL over our table from the people before us!

The food is so good. We have never been disappointed. Also, happy hour is really amazing making food and drink affordable for Marin. The service is friendly and helpful. This is our go to neighborhood restaurant and we are never disappointed

My husband and I visited again for dessert. Again, it was really delicious. Then the waiter dropped off the check and we realized it was not our check. The Manager graciously picked up our desserts when we let him know. I went back again for a burger. It was a good burger and I was surprised that the lettuce was the rib centric part of the lettuce on the $ 15 hamburger. It only took five to ten minutes to get me the check after I asked for it. There were only two or three tables filled in the place. The help is really cordial and good humored. For me, that’s really important.

We went last week and were very disappointed with the wait staff. Very poorly trained waiters that just don’t understand what they are doing. There did not seem to be any manager attending the restaurant, which might explain why the waiters were just hanging out. There is no interplay with the waiters when ordering because they don’t know how to explain food or beverages. The timing is also very off-putting. We sat in a nearly empty restaurant with three waiters. Still, we did not get attended to for about five to ten minutes — even though the waiters were standing in a cluster, immersed in discussion. The food was served cold, probably because it was waiting to get picked up. The service was not acceptable — in so many ways. We have been to the restaurant on many occasions and will still go back since they are the only game in that part of town. Once Andy’s new restaurant opens up in Loch Lomond Marina, I predict that much of Range’s local business will disappear. I’m rooting for a turnaround, but not hopeful based on the fact that service has gotten worse and not better, over the past year. This review is meant to be constructive criticism. I should note that all of the service staff is generally friendly and want helpful, they simply are not properly trained and don’t get it. The food was okay for some of us, but the veal parmigiana was horrible. It was soggy, not crispy, tasteless and covered with a strange cheese that is clearly not mozzarella. It is clearly not properly constructed or executed. The soup was luke warm, but should be hot.

Started as a great spot for local residents; we now feel taken for granted, poorly served and actually repelled by the food. We came here when the restaurant first opened with very positive restaurant reviews. And at first it was a very good café. Then every time I showed up the waiter started making the same stale joke about me. He doesn’t communicate well, brings drinks in a rushed sloppy style to the table, etc. Initially the tortilla soup and Caesar salad were great, the sole was excellent, the churros were so worth over stuffing yourself. Last visit 2 weeks ago with our whole family: The soup was warm, not hot and it’s lost any identity. My son couldn’t eat his Caesar salad, it was watery, way over salted and extremely fishy.(Yes we know it has anchovies!) The tuna had a couple of sesame seeds and I couldn’t find the ginger. It was not very firm texture and was quite bland. The crisps and avocado were fine. The sole was warm, again not hot, and very eggy, Good sole doesn’t need to be hidden. The churros that I had raved about to everyone that we of course had to order? MICROWAVED! Cold, chewy and greasy. Just like Six Flags crap. Oh, but there was a large thimble size serving of good chocolate and good caramel with each order. More is needed. Whip cream is still good too. The other dishes were forgettable, nothing special.(I’ve totally forgotten what I ate that night.) We will not be back after coming at least monthly since opening. Extremely disappointed in Range Café. Oh and there’s always what appears to be a manager passing through now and then. Rarely asks if our tables OK, rarely stops to check to see if we might need anything. Just a passing smile if we’re lucky. The whole staff needs training from top down. The potential here is incredible. We will not be returning and we were monthly or more visitors since opening.

If you’re looking for some hearty food that won’t take a big bite out of your wallet then you should try The Range Café. My girlfriend & I played a round of golf today & wanted to get something pretty quick as we were both very hungry. We decided to give The Range a shot & we’re both very glad that we did. I ordered the home-style meatloaf with mash potatoes & vegetables. It was sweet, tangy & very delicious. My GF ordered Cal Ahi Poke sashimi grade tuna in ginger & soy sauce with a avocado & aping salad. Also very delicious! And then to top it off we shared dessert Molten chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice cream. Watch out for this one! Very deadly! Service & ambiance was awesome ! Check it out

Went in again and once again they exceeded my expectations. Very busy when I went in with my family and the staff seemed to be on top of it. The burger was delicious, the wife had the Chinese chicken salad and she loved it. We ended with the churros(I think they are made in house) and wow!!! I can eat those everyday. Yet another great experience at Range Café Grill

I just love this café. I’ve eaten here many times since it’s opened. My husband claims that they have the best burgers in Marin. My son loves the chicken club sandwich. I like the Chico tacos and the Cobb salad. The Cobb is always fresh and delicious. I’m so happy to have this restaurant in our neighborhood. The décor and setting are beautiful. It’s a hidden gem. It’s not a «fast food» place. It’s a place to unwind, spend time with family and friends and enjoy the beauty of the golf course and the mountains.

Thought we’d give this a try and went for a late lunch. Pretty empty when we went in so no problem getting seated. A table of women playing cards, and one other table which already had their food. Our waitress came over, very pleasant, took our drink order and said she’d be right back to take our food order. Wait, wait, wait, wait — 25 minutes, still no drinks, and when we finally saw her and caught her eye, she raised her hand and said be right with you, then disappeared into the kitchen. Waited, and when that didn’t happen we walked out. Ironically on our way to the door, two other employees told us to have a good day!!! I would hate to see what happens when they have more than three tables to serve.

Very impressed with their menu selections. Beautiful dinning area, full bar, very friendly staff. My wife and I came here while waiting for my dad to finish his golf game. Since we were not that hungry, she ordered the Chinese Chicken Salad, which was very delicious and I ordered a hot dog. We will be back to try their dinner menu, seems very tasty.

Went for lunch today, Wed, 4÷22÷15. Sadly the cook and food were really off. I had a burger that was too small for the price, tasteless AND the fries were blah too. Service was great – but then again there were only 2 tables.

Stopped in for a quick happy hour meal last week. The setting is so lovely with the golf course, and the bar has a nice«feel.» Service was quick and friendly. I got delicious buffalo chicken wings and the potato chip nachos. The menu is small, and they don’t have deals on cocktails(only beer and wine), so that is a bit of a disappointment. For those reasons this would not be my first choice for happy hour, but if I was in the neighborhood, or hitting a bucket of golf balls, it’s a nice place to try.

I went here once and will probably not return. We went on a Sunday night and were there early-ish. It took a few minutes to get noticed to get seated. From there the rest of the night was a waiting game. We started with the mac and cheese. You couldn’t tell what cheeses went into the sauce and the rigatoni were blown out. I ordered the special spaghetti special. They forgot the salad. The pasta was cooked al dente but wasnt finished in the sauce. The sauce itself was uninspired. The meatballs seemed to have varying textures. The garlic bread seemed to have lost the garlic. The person I was dining with had the fried chicken. That came out well overdone. We were told ‘sorry but the kitchen was slammed’. My thought is even if you get slammed you dont have to turn out bad food.

Quite a hidden gem. I met a colleague over there for lunch yesterday. There is a warm fireplace and a very nice bar area. My Chinese Chicken Salad was excellent and my friend’s burger looked good. The ice tea was refreshing and they were generous with the refills. Service was excellent. Great place for a relaxing lunch or business chat.
