Indeed, I just called to schedule an apt, and spoke to «Dean.» He was rude!!! I did not schedule the appt, and told him that I will go in and speak to his boss, which I WILL!

I followed my optometrist to San Rafael from Oakland Sears due to the store closing. Again he provided me with great service at a good price. He takes the time to explain things to me and really cares for his patients. The opticians Abby and Dean are also very nice and helpful.

A message from Dr. Andy Montalvo, OD. I am pleased to announce that I am now the optometrist practicing at the San Rafael Sears Optical location. I have transferred to this store from the Oakland Sears location due to its closure. I practiced in Oakland for the past 18 years and proudly served the community there. Dean Ford, the optical manager from the Oakland store is also transferring to San Rafael with me. Our team will bring the same quality of service to this new location. You can look at our Unilocal reviews from the Oakland Sears Optical store to see what people have said about our service. We welcome the San Rafael community to come into Sears for an eye exam. Call us to make an appt. at San Rafael: 415−472−5251

Abigail(Abby) Chambers at Northgate’s Optical department has made me a new fan. She gives stellar service and was genuinely sympathetic when I told her about my previous horrible experience with the optometrist who is no longer there. He had insisted that my readers were correct even though I complained that they were blurry. After two years, I went to a Kaiser doctor who said that my prescription was filled incorrectly. I returned to Sears where Abby concurred and ordered a free replacement in new frames for me. Unfortunately, there was a distracting rainbow glare that wasn’t apparent until I used my cell phone and Kindle. Abby was on leave when I returned to Sears to complain and the substitute, Theresa, was cold and unhelpful. She insisted it was the screen of the two devices and not my glasses. When I realized it was the metal frames that were reflecting rainbows, I returned but Theresa was very dismissive again, and said I would have to come back to speak with the manager. She wouldn’t admit that the frames were reflecting even though it was obvious. I returned when Abby was there. She was outraged at the poor treatment I had received and immediately ordered the glasses in new comfortable beautiful frames. Be sure to see only Abby. Sears has a terrific choice of frames and you can pay off with 0 interested.

After searching a few places for a cheap pair of frames, sears was the only place I could find with a decent selection that weren’t 400 for the frames alone.

First, my positive comments. I was led to Sears Optical by their sales promotion, offering 2 pairs of glasses for $ 99. After making an appointment for an eye exam there, I had a few questions so I sent the optometrist, Dr. Tiffany Leung, an email via and she responded in a timely manner. The exam was thorough and professional. Now, the bad news. The glasses arrived and when I put them on, my vision was blurry and I felt dizzy. I suspected that the prescription was too strong, which Dr. Leung confirmed in my second exam. She revised her prescription, reducing it by 1.00 full diopter in each eye, which is significant. It’s important to note that the Sears Optical exam does not include the measurement of pupillary distance. The optician out on the sales floor takes the measurement only if you decide to order glasses from them. When I asked what my PD measurement is, the optician would not give it to me. According to him, it’s against the law to release this info. Well, I checked with a number of other eye care retailers, including LensCrafters(whose parent company, Luxottica, also owns Sears Optical) and none of them ever heard of such a law. In fact, all of them stated that they gladly provide the PD measurement to customers as part of the exam so they can have a choice of ordering glasses elsewhere. I decided not to re-order my glasses from Sears Optical. Instead, after extensive online research, I decided to order from with Zenni Optical, which requires an accurate PD measurement(I do not recommend taking your own measurement). I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Dr. Leung’s revised prescription is accurate. If not, I’m back to square one and will need to incur additional cost to be re-examined by a qualified optometrist.

Customer service is terrible. The products are inferior. The price is very cheap compared to the better quality eyeglasses. If you do not mind compromising quality for price; this is the place to shop. If you expect your eyeglasses to be complete in a timely fashion; if you expect the people to care about your valued business; if you care to receive quality customer service after your purchase and above all else, if you think cheap eyeglasses are fundamentally worse for you and your family, choose Kaiser eye care or your reliable neighborhood optician, such as Barry Lutz in Sebastopol or many professionals in Santa Rosa, CA.

Simply stated, superior services, and the best prices throughout the county of Marin. I’ve never in thirty years of wearing eyeglasses and/or contact lenses had such great service. The prices are unbeatable!!! This is factual, especially if you are minus 10 or more and require coke bottle lenses, their thin lenses are less expensive then any other place in the county.
