Food was really good and we received our order pretty quickly. I wasn’t really impressed with the service; after our food was served, the waitress didn’t come back to check on us until she was ready to give us the bill.

The food is not bad but the service is steadily declining. The owner lady seems to have lost interest. It was much better 2 years ago. Most recent trip, had to keep asking for basic things like utensils, water, a bowl for the edamame shells. I think the cranky owner is also affecting staff as there seem to be new servers all the time. The rolls are decent and probably the only reason we will still go(kids like them) plus it’s next to Yogurtland. It’s too bad because it’s a good location where there isn’t any competition.

We have been going to this place for years for lunch. It’s close to our office. The service is definitely on and off, they always have a new waitress when we come in. But the food has always been awesome. You just have to stay on top of the waitresses to bring you correct order, refill water, etc. We keep coming back for the food, it’s great value and always fresh.

I think they cut the sushi with a butter knife as it all seemed a bit ragged and I wasn’t sure of the freshness — too much of the fish tasted a bit lemony. We did go on a Monday lunchtime though — never a good time for fresh fish. The bowls smelled of cleaning products. I’d try it again at a better time as they gave me a good overall vibe.

Not gonna lie, I was prepared to be disappointed when I came here because of all the negative reviews but I actually had a great experience here! The service was super friendly and quick and they were very patient with our indecisiveness. The menu is a plethora of all different kinds of rolls and was so hard to choose from(in a good way). My friend and I ended up getting the alcatraz, half and half(half dragon half rainbow) and spider. Everything tasted super fresh and high quality, and for a chain they get extra points from me. I loved it! Pricing is a little steep(over $ 10 for all rolls) but I will probably be back for my sushi fix.

I’m a sushi snob so I don’t know why I continually settle for the low quality sushi here. I was satisfied the first couple times, especially because of the prices. Every time I come the food and service gets a little worse. It’s not even worth it for the cheaper prices. The lunch bentos seem like a great deal but really, you get less than a half sized portion with the meal.

Usually they are great but they have a new server. We got there at 5 till 5pm and we asked for happy hour. She said no and was the rudest server I have ever met.

Food is good, service is great, but they have a nat problem. They were flying around our table the whole meal. None the less still good food.

Crunchy California Roll — so tasty! BTW — I don’t typically care for sushi — but I love this item! Price — under $ 8 … great value!

The wait. Christ, the wait. Honestly if they’d been able to bring me my meal just a tad quicker then perhaps they would have earned a third star. Unfortunately, they were not a tad quicker, and thus, earned a disappointing two-star review. The sushi was ALLRIGHT — subpar really, decent at best. The texture of the rice was too hard and tasted old. Not a fan. I will say this — Madfish is a solid entry sushi restaurant for the beginner sushi-goer. To those with a cultured tongue seeking high-quality sushi, you’re better off going practically anywhere else.

Came here for a team dinner, and I’m being lenient with the stars because I’m pretty surprised how long it took to serve the food when there was only another table of two seated. I got the tempura udon and it was very average, although I did try their Alcatraz sushi rolls and I was very pleasantly surprised. Not for the regular sushi goer, but a place for those new to the scene such as into dip their toes in the water.

I received a personal message from From Hanna P the owner of Little Madfish. I thought my review was honest and based on my experience. If my review is an out-liar then it will be overwhelmed by the positive reviews. If not it will take its place among the other less than stellar reviews to be received by the masses. Subject: Your Review «Wow, really? We pay our pest control bill every month to prevent these types of issue. It has not been a problem in the past and we very disappointed that a customer had to report it to us. However, you could not have just told us about it? You take a picture and post on Unilocal for what purpose? Because you feel that we did something to purposely hurt you in any way? You could not just tell us about it so that we can correct it. Are you that critical of all your surroundings. Of course we take it seriously but what makes a person take a picture then post it online? Truly something else going on. Just down right mean

Went to Madfish last night for dinner. Mistake. We arrived at 6:00PM on a Sunday and it was mostly full, due to a convention nearby. Should’ve left but we were starved. We were seated right away, offered menus 5 mins later and drinks 10 mins after that. After another 10 mins we placed our orders. Clearly they weren’t staffed for the convention. Between the three of us we ordered two Beef Bulgolgi combos and one Chicken Katsu combo. The entrées were tasty, if a bit small. The Bulgolgi had a rich sauce and came on a sizzling plate and the Katsu was light and crispy. The combo gave us miso soup, which had good flavor but was very grainy and didn’t have clear broth. We also got a small portion of rice, an odd mix of tempura and two deep fried Gyoza. Again, the problem wasn’t the food, it was the service. She never once even looked at our table after delivering food, even when taking the order at the next table. I had to stand up and wave my arms to get the check. That table next to us got the wrong order, twice. Madfish might be a good sushi restaurant when there are no conventions but they are 100 yards from a Marriott, so it will happen to them again.

It’s okay. This was my second time here. The first time, I came here with my co-worker but I happen to be juicing so I only had tea. Since I wasn’t juicing this time around, I could actually try something. So we were seated immediately for a Saturday afternoon late-dinnerish. Our waitress was the same person that seated us. Ordered some hot tea while we figured out what we wanted to eat. I ordered the Vegetable Ramen. When the waitress took our order she didn’t write anything down so we figured she was doing it from memory, like some waiters do. She came back & verified my friends order and mine. For some reason she asked me if I ordered a Vegetable Udon. I stupidly said, yes without thinking. The Vegetable Udon was a huuuuuuge serving size. It was okay, I would have liked to have tried their ramen but it’s my fault. I’ll maybe be back to try the ramen.

Wow. So I placed an order at 12:37pm today and it’s now 1:07 and my order is still not made, in fact, the girl is making my order as I write this review. The place wasn’t packed, so that’s not an excuse at all. I don’t understand that an ‘ASAP’ online order takes that long. And then I get hit with so much attitude when I asked if the order isn’t made, that I could cancel it. Like lady, if anything, I should be rolling my eyes at you. These people not only have shitty timing, but a shitty attitude. Never coming back here and telling all my coworkers about this experience. It’s now 1:09pm, and a few eye rolls later, I should be getting my order soon(fingers crossed).

1 dollar sake !!! The only reason i would come here for. Their rolls during their happy hour aren’t too bad either. all their rolls are pretty big. Appetizers: Croquettes: PASSONTHIS!!! it was SOOOGREASYANDOILY. my family and I threw away the entire dish after one bite. Agedashi tofu: it was alright, a little bland and missing that chewy skin on the tofu… i wouldn’t order again. Rolls: Dan the Man: really big! DELICIOUS! However, there was a lot of sauce in it. Boston: DONOTORDERTHIS. its drenched in mayo sauce and it came out warm instead of hot. we were very disappointed. White out: This was a great roll. However, it isn’t on the happy hour menu. Red Monkey: delicioussss. Red Dragon roll: This was one of my favorite because of the cucumber. We also tried their Bibimbap, VERYGOODDISH!!! Since the owners are korean, we realized they probably specialized in korean food more than japanese. And… THEYARE. the Bibimbap was smaller than i expected but the taste was all there. Overall, a pricey but decent sushi restaurant.

Eaten here about ten times. It was pretty good so we kept coming back. Tonight there was rotten broccoli in the soup and all sushi was served with no side of ginger or wasabi. We asked for the ginger and wasabi. We were given 20% off the soup for the rotten broccoli. The fact that they have old enough broccoli in house that is rotten concerns me not to mention the chef would add it to the soup. Will not be returning here.

I think this restaurant deserves 4stars… Was hesitate to try due to bad reviews in Unilocal. Sister and I decided to try and pretty satisfied with the foods!!! They have couple of korean food selection and Ramen too! We had famous san ramon, salmon with creamcheese, was really good. The lion king was really good too, the sauce is not so thick unlike many other Japanese restaurant. The entrée, dol sot bab, hotstone bibimbab, so good, they use Kale surprisingly! And last not least, the Ramen, vegie based broth, pretty decent but good too! Worth a try!

My boo and I hit up this place when we were staying at the Marriott San Ramon for Dundracon. We were hungry, and this place seemed inevitable, so we went during happy hour. Our bill ended up being $ 60. My husband and I(who loath wasted food) couldn’t even finish everything. And we both had drinks. I was hung over(I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: every time I visit bay-area California, I am drunk or hung over the entire time), but my boo pushed the issue, and I helped him drink the $ 1(large) hot sake he thought he could solo. I will just say there was a reason it cost $ 1. It was obviously watered down, and pretty rachet. Grilled edamame was good. Dennis ordered some kind of «lion» roll that had wisps of deep fried sweet potato on it. I ordered something with tuna and avocado and liked it. However, we really wished we’d just ordered like three of the lion rolls. That thing was a five all day. Towards the end of our meal a guy and three young children sat down. The kids were being terrors, and the guy ordered like… four beers. Not being one to judge, I was like, kind of wondering and kind of proud at the same time. Then mom joined them(things made more sense). As the kids yelled off and on and fussed over their cutesy tablets, I could tell the mom was self conscious about their behavior. I don’t know how the conversation started, but I ended up telling her she deserved the beers she was throwing down – because she obviously did for being a great mom to three girls(twins, and a single born only 13 months later). She laughed. «Oh, they’re two for four dollars during happy hour. We are here a lot.» They were the 22oz bottles. WHAAAAAAAAAT? That, my friends, is a cheat code. Lion roll(with sweet potato crunchies) + grilled edamame + all the beer in the world + happy hour = happiness You now know everything you need to know.

Take a look at this picture that I posted. Does this look like a spicy tuna hand-roll? I am no sushi chef but this looks like a regular spicy tuna roll. The funny part was that she repeated the word hand-roll. Beyond that concern, they spice the roll with sriracha which is such a foreground flavor. Maybe they did this to mask the ‘fishy’ flavor of the tuna, however possible that favor still shines through. Oh, and it took about 20 minutes to have this made. The waitress went back to the sushi bar to ask about the order. They said they were making it, 10 minutes later she hands it to us. What did I learn today? Apparently when I think, say, and hear the word hand-roll it is actually like the voice of the teacher on Charlie Brown. Never again!
