Protera

Service Master had these guys come out to complete an asbestos test before the kitchen demo could start. The person that took the sample was in his personal car (which some people here have an issue with), was on time and was pretty nice. The samples were tested and the results were supplied the next day. Fortunately we didn’t have asbestos so that was good. I’ve worked with a few mold /​asbestos testing companies and they seem to show up in personal vehicles or small vans that are unmarked… no biggie. Overall, I suppose these guys are fine.

Protera came out to check for Asbestos and Lead following water damage from recent rain storms. Joe and Tony were courteous, nice and informative.

These guys are completely sketchy. I was on a walk and a guy showed up on a Saturday in an UNMARKED truck with no logo on his clothes and nothing but my address on his phone. My son was concerned about it, but let him in as the guy had a message on his cell phone saying, «The son will let you in.» I came home to find this guy «testing asbestos» in my bathroom. When I questioned him, I concluded he was supposed to be across the street. When I called the company the guy who answered the phone was rude and insisted it was normal to send out unmarked trucks, and unidentified workers with no paperwork. In addition, I later discovered that the worker had cut away four 2 inch square pieces of my bathroom drywall. Something he failed to mention as he left my house! I’m beyond livid.

BEWARE!!! We got totally hosed by Protera! We are a well respected, non-​profit affordable housing developer trying to provide homes for low-​income people and Protera fleeced us. When we tried to get official test results, we were repeatedly told by Nefi that he would send them over immediately. He never did. I’m assuming he never sent the samples to the lab in the first place. I can’t believe this operation is still in business.

When remodeling my bathroom my flooring contractor said we had to get the old flooring tested for asbestos before he could tear it out. He referred 3 companies to me that test for asbestos. Protera called back first, so they got the job. They came out to «test» the next morning. Basically the technician cut out a couple small pieces of the linoleum, bagged them up and delivered it to a lab where it was analyzed. As it turned out, there was no asbestos in the floor. I wish my job was that easy. But they responded quick, were on time for the appointment, and had the results the next day.

Over the past several years I have worked with Protera, a small local company while I was with a property restoration general contractor. In my experience, they have been very responsive which is the main reason I used them. They provide reliable and courteous service. Pricing is competitive for their indoor air quality inspections and reports.

I was referred to protera by a contractor I was working with to perform asbestos testing. He referred me to 2 other companies but they were the cheapest. The testing was quick and they were able to email the report directly to my contractor. I would use them again.

2) they didn’t test the right spot and missed some sections
I would NOT recommend their services.

We hired Protera to do testing of the air in our home before a remediation of the asbestos in the home. Joe at Protera was able to come out quickly and do the tests. The next day, he gave us the supposed «results» verbally over the phone. We asked for the official test results from the lab to be faxed or mailed to us. After several days had passed, we called him to follow up and find out where the official results were. He never returned our call. We then called the office number for Protera and spoke with the office staff to inquire about the results. They never returned the call and never sent the official results.
We ended up doing the key tests again after the abatement.
Highly disappointed. Not recommended

After I had a terrible experience with Bay Cities Mold Inspection Services, I went with Protera for my post-​remediation mold inspection, which confirms the success of the mold abatement work done by the mold remediation company (P.W. Stephens in this case — 4.5 stars).
Protera was quick to come out and to deliver the results (passed). In addition, my project manager was very helpful in providing practical suggestions on how to manage a moist/​mold-​prone situation moving forward. If you require mold inspection (either initial or post-​remediation), I highly recommend Protera.
