First time trying this place out, and the waitresses were very friendly and attentive. It didn’t take long for us to get our food. Plus, after we were done, it didn’t take them long to give us our check. The sushi was definitely delicious and fresh! I also ordered the Seafood udon. The broth was average. I expected it to have a variety of seafood in it, but there wasn’t much but a couple of pieces of fish and one mussel. I was a little disappointed in this soup. Overall, the sushi itself was quite satisfying, and we will definitely come back again.

This is my «go to» sushi place. Always fresh and always good service. After nearly a year of looking, I happy with my East Bay sushi. Update: Amazing. They were so busy tonight and I ordered take out. The wait was longer than expected but they make you comfortable the best they can. I love this place!

First time trying Yayume and I can confidently say we will return soon. They passed my «Busy Night» Preparedness test and well executed a take out order for an early Valentine’s Day dinner for myself and my family of 4. My 2 daughters are finicky Ramen aficionados(ok, NOVICE aficionados since they have been consuming ramen for about 5 solid years on a regular basis) and can turn a potentially successful dinner experience into a dud if said ramen bowl is not«just so». Spoiled brats? Perhaps. But they eat their veg willingly so i overlook the ramen issues that sometimes arise. Yayume did a great job on their pork ramen. I appreciated the pork belly and half hard boiled egg that kept the noodles company. My kids didnt eat the extra protein but i did and it was GOOD. I ordered 2 Pork Ramen Bowls, the full dinner version of Chicken Katsu(with white rice, a small side salad with their tasty dressing and a container of Katsu dipping sauce), an order of their Chicken Yakisoba which was my entrée and one that i will definitely order again.(note for restaurant in case they tune in here: there seems to be a small typo in the menu description for this item as it says«chicken, seafood, vegetables, udon…» I asked the person on the phone to leave out any seafood and she stated that it only comes with chicken. That worked out well for me but may not for another customer that expects what is listed on ingredients to be in actual dish) And lastly i ordered one of their special sushi rolls, the OMG, for my husband and not one grain of rice was to be found in the container when he was done. A good sign for sure. I took advantage of their 10% discount off take out which was on their Unilocal page. I did ask of they would honor it on Valentines Day as i would not have expected them to since its normally a very busy night for most restaurants… but they did! The ONLY thing holding me back from slapping that fifth star up there goes back to the ramen. Don’t get me wrong, the pork was good. But i originally wanted the Shoyu based broth but they were out of it so i opted for the 2nd choice which was a chicken broth base. Very different flavor profiles and not one i would order unless it meant there would be no other option if we really wanted ramen. So yes, I was bummed that we could not experience their shoyu broth but it gives us even more reason to return again. And that we will. I completely forgot to take any photos of our food once we got it home. One star for me on that! The order was ready for us when we got there and looked and tasted great when we got into it at home. The restaurant looked well staffed and ready for a bustling Valentines Day Dinner service! Glad we ordered!

Exit ITTO, enter Yayume. Although they raised their prices faster than I could finish my draft, I’m still a fan because I’ve been here a number of times and it’s a big improvement over its predecessor. I’ve had their Chirashi and some of their rolls and I have been very satisfied with them. In a nutshell, they have fresh fish, innovative rolls, great presentation, and friendly service. They make good use of colors to enhance their plating. The tobiko, green onion, and sauces that they use are indeed appealing to the eyes. Rolls are not padded with rice and they put decent cuts of fish on top. Some of the rolls we’ve tried are as follows: African Spider Roll(fried soft-shell crab, imitation crab mix, and cucumber topped with ebi, unagi, avocado, and unagi sauce) — this is probably the result of crossing a Spider Roll with a Dragon Roll. A very tasty roll with a good crunch coming from the soft-shell crab. Try Me Roll(fried unagi and imitation crab mix topped with seared tuna, avocado, spicy tuna, tobiko, scallion, and spicy mayo) — the tuna is lightly seared so you still get that raw goodness overall. If that’s not enough tuna for you, there’s still some spicy tuna on top of the roll. They give you all the tuna flavors to enjoy — raw, seared, and spicy. Titanic Roll(shrimp tempura and spicy imitation crab mix topped with hamachi, salmon, avocado, lobster salad, scallion, and tobiko) — The additional ingredient they use on a rather ordinary roll can cut both ways but the lobster salad they put on top is a welcome addition. They use what they call as «small lobster,» which is probably langostino lobster or it could be crawfish. Nevertheless, it’s still a notch better than the usual imitation crab. Hot Night Roll(shrimp tempura and lobster salad topped with spicy tuna, tobiko, tempura flakes, and unagi sauce) — another one of their creations that has lobster salad and it goes well with the spicy tuna. Make sure to pick up all the tempura flakes! Godzilla Roll(deep-fried assorted fish topped with tobiko, scallion, and spicy unagi sauce) — there has to be something deep-fried to order and this was it. They wrap an assortment of fish with the rice inside and the nori outside then deep-fry the whole roll with a light batter. Slice it up and add some garnishes — there’s our Kid’s Choice Award winner! Salmon Skin Roll(grilled salmon skin and cucumber topped tobiko, green onion, and unagi sauce) — there’s good flavor and crispiness in the salmon skin. I’ve tried this as a hand roll and it was even better. There are a few other sushi restaurants nearby but Yayume Sushi is the way to go. Quality and price can’t be matched. Hands down, the best in the area.

Best sushi I’ve had in San Ramon. Their ramen is good, the OMG roll was awesome, they don’t use too much rice in their rolls and the fish here is fresh and good quality.

This sushi restaurant gets my vote as best in San Ramon. Way above the place that’s used to be there. First, they have ramen. There’s a ramen craze right now and they fall in right in the middle in my opinion. Tried a few rolls, I remember a 49er which I believe had lemon slices. Love that pairing with salmon. Also had the African spider roll. Also good. When the rolls are on the more creative side, with some homemade sauce, I tend to look pass the $ 10+ price tag for each roll. I think it was the crazy monkey roll that was the«plain» roll we had that didn’t quite live up to the expensive prices that is the norm in the Tri valley.

Came for dinner on a Saturday night. We had a tempura udon, a futomaki and fried Phili roll and a ikura. They were surprisingly busy considering the shopping plaza was a ghost town. The veg tempura udon came first. Or should I say the udon came and after we asked the tempura arrived 5 – 7 min later. Both were tasty. The fried Phili was thick to the point of being soggy with tempura batter and I would def not order again. The futomaki and Ikura were both yummy per my hubby. Over the course of the meal we asked for things like wasabi etc and the servers forgot. They were all super nice but overall the meal wasn’t superb.

We stopped for a quick lunch on a Monday afternoon well after the normal lunch hour. We used to come here a lot back when it was Itto sushi. We liked it back then and we wanted to like it, now. But, alas, it was not to be. Nothing has really changed for both the interior and exterior except for the sign across the top of the front door. The menu remains fairly familiar with all the traditional Japanese dishes for both lunch and dinner. A large list of sushi rolls is also present. Prices remain reasonable. I chose a Bento Box combination of Tempura and Gyoza. It came with a bowl of the traditional miso soup and a small green salad with Oriental style mayo-based dressing. There were four Gyozas which were nicely browned, tender and fairly flavorful. There was an adequate amount vegetable and shrimp tempura. The problem was the Tempura batter was a bit on the heavy side. It should have been much lighter and a bit more fragile. It was also missing that nice lacy structure on the exterior. My wife had the tempura roll. She said that it was pretty good but she said she had difficulty eating it. Apparently the density of the sushi rice was not very tender. That combined with the seaweed autorap made it very difficult to bite off a chunk and yet, she felt awkward and trying to eat the whole slice in one bite. The service was good and the staff was friendly. And, the prices are reasonable enough. All in all, it wasn’t bad but not good enough to put it on our preferred list of sushi places. Jim

Good sushi, not great, but good. Ordered the edamame to start off. It was warm but overcooked. I was hoping they had grilled edamame but the boiled had to do. I ordered the low carb roll since they didn’t have a brown rice option. It was okay. Light and refreshing from the cucumber but certainly lacked depth any sort. The unagi was delicious. The service was great and the atmosphere was enjoyable, I would come back again if in the area.

The gist of most of the reviews here: «This place is great! Minus 1 star because otherwise how will people know I’m a true foodie!» or «Yes, I ordered rolls which are of course heavy, but minus 1 star for being heavy and filling!» Step up your game San Ramon, damn. I was spoiled growing up near a large Japanese community, and am happy to say I’m seriously impressed by the food here. The ramen was savory and portion gigantic, and the katsudon was equally filling and tasty. Looking forward to coming back for the chirashi bowl.

Great new sushi restaurant in San Ramon! It was Friday night and my kids really wanted sushi so we went to our staple San Ramon haunt, Senro Sushi. The restaurant was packed, with four or five ahead of us. We didn’t want to wait so decide to look on Unilocal for a moderately priced restaurant in Danville. When we did the search, Yayume popped up in San Ramon. It was also rated 4 out of 5 stars and moderately priced, same as Senro. We decided to go and try, and boy, are we happy we did. Yayume was busy but had a couple of tables available. We recognized Cindy, a former server at Senro. She welcomed us and Sat us at nice table, away from the front door. We ordered a Chicken Katsu dinner and five various sushi rolls. Everything tasted great. The servers were very attentive and kept on filling up our tea and water cups. Very happy with the food, service, ambience and price. Will definitely go again. Glad we have another wonderful sushi restaurant in San Ramon to go to that is good and not overpriced. 1÷15÷16 Update = Have been a number of times my posting. The restaurant is just getting better and better! Great service! Great food! Had to upgrade to 5 Stars. You have to go and try, especially if you live in the Tri-Valley!

Read as 3.51. After reading great reviews about this restaurant, I brought the husband here on a Friday night since sushi is one of his all time favorite foods(and one of my least). I might rate this restaurant higher based on food, but service issues/flow issues tarnished my rating. The restaurant was busy, but we were seated right away and I quickly noticed that there were some major communication issues with the waitstaff and another issue with the kitchen orders being way behind the sushi bar orders. I also witnessed my first entitled 20 something who breezed in behind a family of 4 who had been waiting for the 4 top next to us(here is where the lack of communication between waitstaff was most prevalent) and when the Dad confronted the younger guy saying they had been waiting for the table, the younger guy told the Dad–«I was told to take this table»…No apologies, no recognition that this man was with 2 small kids and wife, nothing”. It was seriously one of the rudest exchanges I have seen in a long time(and not by the Dad) and finally, the waitresses communicated, apologized to the Dad and told the younger guy he and his party would have to wait. The younger guy said something nasty to the Dad and then walked outside and left with his party. This was the biggest of the service issues I witnessed(darned ADD). Onto the food: The Husband ordered the Chirashi(sp) bowl as it is always a surprise for him as to what fish assortment is chosen, and I ordered the teriyaki steak donburi(sp?). Both meals were served with Miso and Salad. The miso and salad arrived quickly. The Miso is probably my second favorite of all the Japanese restaurants I have tried in this area. This speaks highly. The salad, I did not eat as it just was iceberg lettuce with a slice of tomato and some sweet looking mayo dressing. Not for me. My husband’s Chirashi bowl was delivered shortly after we had finished our soup/salads. It was a pretty assortment but there was at least one fish the husband didn’t recognize(nor any explanation given of what was in the assortment). It looked smaller than other restaurants served but the husband claimed the fish was all excellent and that he appreciated the extra sushi rice that came in his bowl. Thankfully he wasn’t starving and his food wasn’t hot as it literally took another 12+ minutes for my food to be delivered. It was worth the wait as the steak was cooked to perfection, rice mixed with the sauce but I was missing was veggies– all that came was 2 little broccoli trees. There were service/kitchen issues all around but they were other patrons’ issues and not mine. I think they are still working out some kinks and did notice they also have a big to-go business as well. The husband decided we should come back on a non-Friday night or maybe try them for to-go orders. I am hopeful we will have a successful experience in every category next time.

Pretty much love this place. ANDTHEYDELIVER at night. I may never have to leave my house again. I have really enjoyed my orders, I’ve tried their baked mussels(delicious), their Orange Blossom Roll(great combo of flavors and fish inside and out), their Mango roll, which is savory as well as sweet, their baked scallop roll(NOM, holy crap, NOM, I ordered it with spicy tuna inside and it was KILLER) and some of their nigiri, which was a LITTLE tough, but I’d try again for sure. Wish they had more variety what’s inside their rolls, but i’m sure if I went in person they’d be happy to modify as requested.

Great Sushi, but the customer service is what I’m going to write about. I placed an order for pickup and when I got home I noticed that we didn’t have wasabi or ginger.(Honest mistake that can happen anywhere) I called the restaurant just to make sure they had some as I was planning on driving back to pick some up. When I called they apologized profusely and said they would deliver some right away. Less than 10 minutes later they were at my door! To me this speaks wonders of the customer service. The mistake was a simple one that could happen anywhere, but their willingness to go above and beyond is what makes me a returning customer.

The rolls are a decently sized, have fresh fish, and have excellent presentation. The OMG roll is perfect for those who like spicy and raw fish combined. I also ordered the yaki udon which was a stir fry of udon noodles, meat, and vegetables. The noodles were chewy and nothing was over cooked. Would recommend these two items. My co-worker ordered a 2 item bento box and the waitress came and told us he ordered a 3 item bento for $ 2.50 extra. A quick and simple explanation solved that issue though.

Good sushi for decent prices. Staff is pretty new since the restaurant just opened a few months ago I think.(One of the waitresses spilled a cup of water on our table. Luckily, no one got wet, and she was super apologetic about it… it happens.) Our table started off with a large sashimi boat for a party of 9. The sashimi is VERY fresh. Nice, thick cuts five different types of fish, including salmon and tuna of course. Super high quality. Highly recommend. The rest of dinner was just a bunch of sushi rolls. I will give Yayume some creativity bonus points because these rolls were super unique not only with the combination of ingredients and flavors but also with the presentaiton. All of rolls were gorgeous and totally Instagram-worthy. I really wish our party had asked for recommendations from the servers, because the rolls we got, while good, were a little overwhelming. All of the ones we ordered were soaked in sauces and contained something fried… overall a really heavy dinner, and that probably could have been prevented with a little bit of guidance from our servers. My recommendation is definitely to get a variety of sushi rolls, some that are simple(e.g. rainbow roll) and some that are complex, or else it’s very easy to order too much of the heavy stuff. Unfortunatly, a lot of the fancy sushi rolls tasted very similar to me. All in all, really cool sushi rolls that can be a little heavy. Go for the sashimi if you’re a fan — it’s delicious here!

Finally tried this new place in San Ramon and had an excellent experience. Service: fantastic. The servers were always making sure drinks were filled and were very attentive. Food: sushi quality was great as well as the appetizer. I ordered the titanic along with the 49er rolls. All of them were fresh! Shrimp tempura was great also! I read a couple reviews and was surprised regarding the quality and service. I had a good experience so u must try at least :) I will definitely come back to try few more entrees.

This is a hidden gem, tucked away in the Crow Canyon Theater shopping center. I am grateful to my fellow Unilocalers for sharing their reviews. What an amazing restaurant! We spoke to the waiter, and learned that there was a recent change in management, hence the grand opening special 20% off your entire bill. We ordered everything we could fit in our bellies: 9 choice sushi and sashimi combo which came out in a Boat! Tonkatsu ramen, salmon teishoku set, teriyaki chicken, sushi rolls. Everything was incredibly fresh and generous portions. The Hamachi kama was broiled to perfection, soft, juicy meat and lightly charred skin and fins. We loved the Hamachi capaccio, which came out in soup spoons and each were topped off with a sliced jalapeño pepper. Five star for quality, value, service and experience!

I must admit I am a sushi snob and if I am going out for a serious sushi dinner there is not a place within 12 miles of my home that will consistently peak my interest with an exotic variety of fish. The run of the mill Tuna, Yellowtail and Salmon is not what I normally order. But on a Monday night after fighting traffic in a long 6 hour drive back from SoCal, all I wanted was some ramen and some fresh fish for dinner. With all my Unilocal friends doing recon for me since Yayume Sushi taking over the defunct Itto sushi, I was confident to get a decent Japanese Dinner. I read the reviews and checked out the pics. We arrived around 7:45 pm and was greeted by their Chinese staff. Took a seat in front of the Big Screen TV that was tuned to my favorite show The Profit on CNBC. We ordered the following: Hamachi Carpaccio Yellowtail comes in 5 individual spoons with some ponzu, flying fish eggs and a slice of Jalapeño, a recipe made famous by Nobu Matsuhisa. pretty good. Mixed Tempura 2 shrimp and mixed veggies. OK Spicy Tuna and Salmon Skin Hand Rolls. were fat and very good. Hamachi Kama was huge $ 12 and very meaty. Excellent. Special Japanese Halibut sashimi was the only special fish and they only had 2 slices left. Excellent. Tonkatsu Ramen was the only item that was bad and I would recommend to stay away from. I have had packaged ramen better. I was not expecting to find Scottish Salmon or Madagascar Cuttlefish and since it is within a couple miles of home there is potential to get a quick Japanese meal that does not come in a rolled tube form of rice. Parking is easy. The staff is very friendly and accommodating.

Yayume, pronounced«Ya-You-Me»…(Anyone else out there just get a Naughty by Nature, «You down with O.P.P.» flashback?) Was craving sushi for dinner on a Thursday evening & a Unilocal vicinity search turned up a NEW spot less than 2 miles from the house… Reviews & pics looked promising; clock was ticking, so off we went(w/the lowest of expectations), considering a 20 mile drive to Livermore at this particular time just wasn’t an option… Located in the same plaza(adjacent to Crow Canyon Stadium 6) & assuming ITTO Sushi’s previous location, parking was relatively plentiful. We were immediately greeted/seated upon entering the doors & it was great to see a decent # of guests so close to closing on a weekday evening(definitely a good sign)… Menu was combined w/Appetizers/Entrées/Sushi(limited/select pics), though very robust… Sashimi Deluxe option(15 pcs, assot Chef’s choice) was ~$ 27& none of the rolls(even premium) exceeded $ 10.95,(standard rolls being much cheaper)… Donburi rice bowls, Ramen/Udon & Entrées/Bentos, etc… rounded out the menu, all at very reasonable prices as well… That being said? I felt like a kid in a candy store… Why you ask? Practically everything I named above«Went in mah belly…» Shrimp tempura appetizer had a very nice texture/batter that maintained crispness throughout the meal. Miso soup was also very good, though the dressing on the salad(personally), I found to be a bit too sweet… Sashimi was very fresh, nicely sliced(thick-cut) & well presented… Rolls were also very well presented, though better still, TASTY… Ordered the OMG Roll, Titanic Roll & the Salmon Skin Roll(though never received the OMG). No complaints though considering I was beyond full anyway & the item was deducted without hesitation from the bill… In regards to the Ramen?(Yes, ramen is on the menu…) Gave the miso ramen a shot which(if craving) «may» do the trick, but in no way should be compared to spots specializing in ramen… Noodles were passable(decent springiness/chew), egg was hard-boiled, chashu was actually quite good, w/the broth(particularly for miso), being a bit too light(missing that«something») in the flavor department… Fix the broth & this could transform into a relatively satisfying, in-town option for ramen… In general, was I impressed? Well…, 3 days later I returned to do it all again… The server(when dropping off the menus) immediately recognized us/me, apologized for forgetting my OMG Roll the last visit &(proactively) had one made fresh & on the house! Talk about service! This also gave me an opportunity to further experiment, finding the Half Moon Bay Roll(Shrimp Tempura, Crab Meat, topped w/Albacore, Avocado, Scallion & Japanese Special Sauce), also @ $ 10.95(& also one of my personal faves). Salmon skin roll was also very good(nice crunch) @ $ 4.95. I also gave the Tonkatsu Curry entrée a try as well(& though good), I’ll request they refrain from adding peas & carrots next time around. Caught me off guard, though no big deal as I was easily able to push aside these unexpected veggies«dark passengers» that happened to hitch a ride on my curry… Last but not least…, Service… Servers were extremely friendly & attentive(though also very busy at times), but still managed to check-in to refill drinks & not only ask how we were doing, but also inquired on feedback of the dishes. That being said folks, if you don’t like something, let them know! It’s obvious they’re willing to adapt to feedback/recommendations(great formula for a business) to well…, remain«In business». Exceptional service… Yes they’re relatively new; but they appear to be doing everything correctly, right from the get-go… 2 visits within the same week & quality of product remained consistent w/service never slipping… One complaint I do have however? Why must they be less than 2 miles from my house(AND on the same path to my gym no-less)?! I now have a dilemma during each drive down Niles Canyon… «Gym or Sushi?», «THAT is the question…» I’ll be back…

Yayume Sushi and Ramen is located in a strip mall behind Regal Crow Canyon Theaters. It replaces ITTO Sushi. In fact, we arrived as they were just installing the sign! Overall the food is decent. The grilled squid appetizer was tender, well seasoned, and had this nice, lemony dipping sauce that paired well with it. Free miso soup with the sushi combos was also good — it had small bits of tofu and seaweed for more umami. Sushi Deluxe was huge — impressive amount of nigiri sushi and good sized too! At about $ 21 its a better deal than my usual favorite at Senro’s. The Cali rolls had fresh fillings, though I would have liked softer rice. The various nigiri with fish toppings were very fresh — melt-in-your mouth good. The tako(octopus) was on the chewier side. I would give 4-stars for the sushi. Wife ordered miso ramen. Pork was soft and tender and noodles were chewy(both good signs!), but broth seemed to miss some richness that other places have. 3.5 stars. We will definitely come back to try their other offerings. They have a large rolls menu. It looks like it can give Senro Sushi some serious competition.
