Came here after finding out the family owns Small City Tap House! Great tasting food with a great service! Similar to Tap Hose! I like Tap House better because of the atmosphere! No back ground music so it was loud and could here everyone’s conversations?!

I was pretty excite to try this place when I saw 4.5-star Unilocal rating. Food quality is Definitely NOT4.5-star rating. Completely lacks freshness and flavor burst that you’d experience at great Vietnamese restaurant. It’s just okay, nothing special. Brown sauce provided with fresh rolls was really bad frankly… Beef phở with sliced beef and meat balls — sliced beef were too thick, over cooked and dry. Soup too salty, lacks cilantro, provided with no so fresh bean sprouts. Grilled pork with rice — pork too thinly sliced, over grilled, marinated too long and over sweet. Price — Lunch portion with dinner price. Portion was so small that it wasn’t enough for kids. Small bowl of phở for $ 10.00. I suppose they can charge this due to its location and a lack of competition? Service was pretty good. Polite and attentive. Maybe over salty and sweet dishes start to taste really good after several craft beer. $ 5/glass of craft beer sounds reasonable.

Best spot in the area!!! My husband and I love Cedars Point. We’re not too big on chain restaurants so trying Mekong was right up our alley! Food was great, service is great! We left full and satisfied! We both had a pineapple cider and the Phở! They gave us a tip with mixing sauces in the Phở which made it phenomenal! We will be return every time we’re in Sandusky!

What a random find of a good Vietnamese restaurant in Sandusky! We were getting hungry after visiting the Plum Brook station and was looking for a quick bite to eat before heading back to CLE. Found some great reviews of Mekong and decided to go! It’s a rather large restaurant with Vietnamese food and a menu of international beers(in fact, I think they won some award because the signs are all over the restaurant). We were seated right away(at 5pm on Saturday), and having just listened to how the president had tried Bun Cha in Vietnam, we decided to ask for it. We were pointed to the rice noodle salad bowl. Okay, that works! — That was my entrée and I really liked it! You get a lot of good quality marinated meat for the price(I always hate it when the grilled pork is too grilled or I have like three pieces of pork in my big bowl), and I also liked how it wasn’t really oily too. The egg rolls in the bowl was good as well– a little more fried than I would have liked, but it was still good. — He got the grilled pork with rice dish, and he was also pleased with the dish. Overall it was a good experience! It’s a great place for food and drinks if you’re in the area!

This is a terrific restaurant in the main commercial area in Sandusky. The food is excellent, the service is quite good and the atmosphere is rather nice. The prices are pretty reasonable for what you get. The location in the main commercial stretch in Sandusky is well placed. The fact that it is situated in front of the Mall is convenient. Their spacious interior offers plenty of seating. We stopped in for lunch on a Sunday anticipating it would be a good spot for a midday weekend meal. I tried the Goi Muc on my visit. This is the calamari salad with lotus root, cucumber, onion, cilantro and fresh basil topped with crushed peanut. My daughter had the Phở Do Bien, a seafood Phở preparation which includes shrimp, scallops and squid. My wife tried the Bun Ga Cha Gio, which is a grilled beef preparation on romaine lettuce, rice vermicelli, cucumber, bean sprouts, pickled carrots, scallions and peanut dressing. The latter comes with a sliced-up spring roll. Everyone was unanimously happy with their choices. I also had an Iced Vietnamese Coffee to finish. This was delightful though I was disappointed that they did not offer a hot Vietnamese coffee option. Overall, this is a terrific Vietnamese place. I would not hesitate to recommend this establishment if you are in the area and like this style of food. The value is quite good from my perspective.

Top notch Vietnamese cooking. I had the shrimp spring rolls and the seafood Phở Bowl. Atmosphere is inviting. The room was very clean and seemed to be recently renovated. Great beer selection. Had a Bell’s Porter. Super cheap. Dinner for 2 $ 50 with 2 adult drinks.

I was a little disappointed. I went here based on the reviews and ordered a favorite from lots of other restaurants across the country. The soft egg roll lacked flavor, but the crispy egg roll was delicious. The sauces could have had more flavor. And it needs more peanuts. The service was really good though.

I am neither Vietnamese nor an expert on Vietnamese food. Compared to restaurants in the SF Bay Area, this one fell short. The beef phở noodle soup was noticeably absent of any beef tripe, tendon or brisket… only a skimpy scattering of beef meatballs and sliced beef. Service was attentive(I was there on a Wed night). I am not sure the food was entirely«authentic» as the sign claims. I will say that the beer selection was quite impressive. Never would have guessed that from a restaurant near a shopping mall. If I am in the area, I will try more dishes next time.

I have never seen or been to a Vietnamese restaurant with CRAFTBEER! This is insane. The beers are delicious and the Vietnamese food is a bonus. The owner is great. He walks around sipping on his glass of beer and talks to his customers, also educating us on the different types of beers. #1 best beer bar in America three years in a row. It is well-deserved.

Decided to splurge today and based on a recommendation of a coworker, I decided to give Mekong a try. I had no idea what to expect from a Vietnamese restaurant in Sandusky with Chipotle in one half of the building and a Cracker Barrel on the other side. It was after 1pm on a Saturday afternoon, so it wasn’t all that busy. Since I was by myself, I asked for a table and I was escorted to the bar area. Wow! What a selection of beers… Mekong has a separate menu for their beer offerings. Domestics and International and near beer alcohol content to several with almost 12% alcohol content! All I kept thinking to myself — and this is a Vietnamese restaurant? Crazy! I ordered a cup of wonton soup due to the weather outdoors to start things off. Fresh tasting wontons and the broth was very good as well as very warm(almost too warm). For lunch I had seafood(shrimp, scallops, and calimari) with lemongrass sauce. YUM! Ambiance had a great«feel» and I imagine, summertime will be a great place to go! I know I will be back for sure. Highly recommended…

Stopped in on a cold January day looking for something authentic and not one of the many fast food joints along the highway. Admittedly, I wasn’t expecting much from a Vietnamese joint in Sandusky, but Mekong really is a hidden jewel of a restaurant. Firstly, it’s a combination of authentic Vietnamese food and quality beer bar. I’ll admit, I was a little skeptical that this unlikely combination could work without sacrificing quality in one area or the other, but those doubts were quickly dispelled. The beer selection is huge, and features an impressive array of high quality and international beers for unpretentious prices. I would gladly come back just to hang out and explore their beer selection. But of course, Mekong is first and foremost a Vietnamese restaurant. My parents and I made it just in time to order from the Lunch Special menu, which also comes with a choice of soup and spring/summer roll. I got the Pork with Lemongrass Sauce, with wanton soup and summer roll. Everything was fresh and full of flavor. My mom ordered the beef phở, and while it wasn’t the best phở I’ve ever had, it was still above average. It came in a sizable portion which made me appreciate the already reasonable menu prices even more. The service was quick and efficient, if a little aloof. I chalk it up to the fact that it was a late lunch on a rather slow winter day. The interior is super clean and has an unassuming sleekness that really elevates the feel of the restaurant as a modern place to eat. Whether you’re looking to enjoy some quality beer or try out some authentic Vietnamese food, Mekong is definitely a cool place to be. I’ll definitely be coming back the next time I’m in town!

Wow! Good Vietnamese food, especially for the Great Lakes area. The beer selection is beyond belief, especially the Belgian stuff at a very reasonable price. Can get a great ale for $ 7 at 10% ABV. Ambience and décor is clean and simple. Not a lot of customers on a Thursday night so most seating around the bar area; felt like a cozy pub. Might stay a second night at Kalahari, if so then definitely will dine here again! We had 3 entrees, two beers. With tip still under $ 50.

Still sitting at the table… Amazing phở that I’d recommend to anyone! I’m used to Cleveland phở but this is just about as good as any(except maybe for Superior). Nice Surprise in Sandusky!

Best Vietnamese food in northern Ohio!!! I found this place on Unilocal as we were headed to Cedar Point for Halloweekends. Just because we were really hungry we thought why not. What a great decision! I’ll be back soon with my son! He loves this stuff! The beer selection looks amazing so I will have to come back just for that!

It’s a rarity to find a good Asian restaurant that also has really good microbrews! We got bells porter and a pecan brown ale. Yum! Coming from cedar point I needed nourishment quickly and cheaply. Mekong meet all my expectations! Food was amazing. phở and bun(noodles) with grilled meats and egg roll were very tasty. The beef and pork were very tender. Service was fast and friendly! I told my server I had to drive back to Ann Arbor and I was in for a longer drive– he was very kind and sent 2 to-go ice waters my way! Inside the décor is really nice and clean. One suggestion I have for the owner would be soft or lite pop music in the background music. Nothing crazy just something mellow. This would really do wonders for the atmosphere and overall feel of the restaurant. If you’re in Sandusky or going to Cedar point, you must visit Mekong!!!

The Vietnamese food is decent — agree with the reviewers who said that it felt Americanized. The Ho-fun had interesting flavors but the sauces were over sugared. rice noodle dishes seemed more authentic. the fresh spring roll appetizers were on the smaller size with no particularly fresh flavor in the roll or sauce. The Phở noodles and broth were well flavored but the less than fresh veggies which came out first made a poor first impression. Service was polite and efficient and the place was decently crowded at lunch. Mekong seems to be an alternative to the chains that surround it — it is catering to the Cedar Point crowd — so perhaps it can be cut some slack because it understands its clientele.

Dude! This place is the best! If this place were in Cleveland it would be at least $ 2-$ 3 more on everything, including food and beers. There would also already be 200+ reviews and 60 pics of a bowl of soup with 60 different iPhone filters. This place would be on some know-it-alls list of places to eat for out-of-towners…I can see it now. The area is vast wasteland of indoor waterparks, strip malls and crappy chain restaurants husky Americans love to shovel in their pie holes when they go out. This place is unique and shines bright like diamond. Lunch was full enough to be fun on a Friday but not obnoxious. Some of the rarest bottled beers I have seen anywhere, let alone Sandstucky! Only«local» stuff they had was Fat Heads and some Sandusky brewery. I find it odd which beers some bar owners deem worthy and others they don’t. Everyone’s an expert now anyways. The food was all delicious and the service was typical of most Asian places. One minute they all over you and 5 minutes later there is no one to be found. But, keep my beers comin’ and Im a happy camper. I hope this place stays around for a long time and thrives. I am already planning on my next trip up here to get some of that Vietnamese goodness. Really is one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in quite awhile. The workers are attentive(but not overly so), the beer selection is just ridiculous(as well as wildly unexpected if I hadn’t seen Unilocal first), and… the phở is alright, I guess. There’s basically nothing about Mekong that I’d change. The phở is great, especially after a chilly day at Cedar Point, and there are a side of jalapenos, limes, and beansprouts that you can add to it if you’d like: as well as a few sauces. Really though, you probably won’t need to add any of them — the broth is flavorful enough. The appetizer had a slew of items I don’t recall off-hand, but they were all good or better. Some of the shrimp had mud veins in-tact still, so look out for that. The beer selection is, again, impressive. There are only a handful of beers on-tap, but there’s a long bottle list, as well as a large number of mostly hard-to-find or just pricy beers above the taps. The owner is really nice and appears to know a lot about craft beer. The best part about the beers for sale, they’re reasonable. Two bombers of Deschutes Black Butte XXVI and Abyss were $ 16 a piece … I was expecting a price tag approaching $ 30 for each. Awesome phở, great appetizer sampler, and an incredible beer list — I think I’ll make this my go-to restaurant when I’m in the area.

The phở was just disappointing, the broth was so bland and the bean sprouts looked so sad and brown. I ordered the lemongrass pork and that was not tasty either, there was no flavor explosion like other Viet restaurants I’ve been to. Overall interior ambiance feels Americanized too(bar with beer), perhaps we should’ve took that as a warning sign.
