Fantastic park for some sledding action! The hill is also amazing for slip n slides in the summer months, it’s super steep and wide! I’ve seen plenty of ice blocking here too! In the summer, there’s usually a permanent yellow streak of dead grass from said activities! I like this park and it’s usually pretty quiet. The park recently had some work done and new bathrooms put it. There is a softball field, a plaayground, a walking trail and some open areas with picnic areas up above the hill. There’s also some basketball courts up there too, I think. The park is pretty nice and I’ve never seen weird stuff happening there; although I’m sure they do get some of it still.

This is a really nice park. Clean, big, lotsa playground equipment and sports venues. Very little dog poo or creepy people. A nice jogging path with different trails. 2 baseball field, a couple soccer fields, basketball courts, tennis courts and steep hills for sledding or ice blocking. Plenty of parking and a beautiful view. On the north east side, there’s a set of steep steps shaded by trees that make for good exercise. They also seem to be home to a couple feral cats whom are pretty friendly.

Oh Flat Iron. Park of my youth. As a grown up I can appreciate you even more now for being one of the most unique parks in all of Salt Lake. It begins, ends, and is definitely caught up in that massive, steep hill. If you’re not familiar with Flat Iron Mesa, just look for the two giant blue water tanks on top of a big green hill. Yep. That’s the one. 30+ acres of tennis courts, playgrounds, baseball fields, soccer fields, a big pavilion, and a decent sized parking lot up on top. But really, let’s get back to the hill. In the winter time, this is the go-to hill for speed demons on a sled. Rising out of the two baseball diamonds on the street level at 8600 S. is a mama jamma of a hill perfect for zipping down over the snow. Because the hill faces south, the snow can disappear in a hurry. With all the traffic of the neighbor kids going up and down, you’ll start seeing green pretty soon after the most serious of snowstorms so get their early. In the summer, the hill is a destination for ice blockers. If you’ve never heard of ice blocking, it’s pretty much like it sounds. Buy ice block. Sit or lay on ice block. Zip down hill trying to stay on ice block. It’s wicked fun. Bear in mind I did all of these things in my youth. I’ve now been back to Flat Iron as a grown up(sans ice block) and can appreciate the facilities for what they offer in a more relaxed way. The youth leagues for baseball, soccer, etc are all over the park which is great if you want your kid involved, but can cause some traffic if you show up on a game day wanting to use the facilities. Also, since it’s been years since I sledded/ice blocked it would be worth investigating if they’re allowed here. Pretty sure they’re against official regulations, so I’m not recommending you participate in these activities. *wink.
