Rainbow Trout Farm

This place is not fishing, it is catching! We walked up and the employee explained the rules, the fish sizes per pond, and handed my kids poles. We went straight to pond 6 which holds the largest fish. Our plan was to stay there about an hour and maybe catch a fish or two. However, the fish did not comply with our plan.
About 15 seconds after my son’s bait hit the water «BAM», fish on! It put up a great fight and we used the net to bring him in. This guy was an 18 incher and very healthy. It looks like I pulled it out of the river. This was so fast, we tried the smaller fish ponds and both kids caught more fish.
Once we finished, we took the fish to the employee. He measured and cleaned the fish. They accepted Visa and Mastercards.
The kids had a great time. I highly recommend this place. Just don’t plan to fish more than an hour. The facilities offered bbq pits, soda, and ice cream. It looked like a park meaning it is well maintained.

Avoid at all costs. You heard other reviews. horrible place. My boys caught about 8 fish lady thought it wasn’t enough. They thought we stole fish because I had a cooler. They ask to open the cooler. I said here you go look all you want only drinks n snacks for kids. I ask them to search my truck too while they’re at it. They didnt find anything. I ask her Who does that teach their kids to steal petty fish. Told her I don’t need to steal I have money. They didn’t even say sorry for acusing me of stealing. Yes it’s a nice place but people who run it are TERRIBLE. I I’ll not support or spread good word of this place. I hope this place goes bankrupt.

We took our 3−½ year old grandson here today who caught his first fish, three to be exact in probably 20 minutes! Grandpa was extremely impressed with all the fishing equipment and the bait they supplied, made everything so easy. Grandpa probably had more fun than my grandson had! The people couldn’t have been nicer! Grounds were gorgeous and clean. This is the best trout farm we’ve ever been to and will definitely be returning with all 3 grandsons!

I went fishing here with my fiancé and a couple of friends. It’s a very unique and pretty place with multiple ponds stocked with farmed trout. All the fishing equipment, bait, and entry fee were free. However, the fish you catch will cost you. They charge by the length of the fish, and there are no throw backs at this farm, so be selective. You are guaranteed to catch a fish, and you can even see them go for your bait! It was definitely a fun time. The lady who owns the place is very nice and helpful, and they keep the grounds clean. I would recommend this to families and friends looking to get out of the city.

I had previously been here when I was a kid and had very fond memories of it. Now that I have kids I thought it would be fun way to introduce them to fishing where I started. First off the grounds are very well kept and a lot of easy access points to the ponds which made fishing for them very easy.
We encountered two staff members during our trip. The first one was very distrusting which I will get to in a second. The second staff member who cleaned our fish was terrific. She was happy and talked to us about trip and made everyone feel good about the experience. The first staff member that we had originally encounter came down during the cleaning process and grilled us about the fish we caught as well as the fish that we didn’t catch.
My son who caught the first fish of the day out of pond 4, reeled in a big one measuring 15 inches. This was a point of contention as we were grilled about which pond it had really come out of. Yes it was a big fish for what seemed to be the standard size in the pond but we didn’t lie about where it came from.
The second point of contention was that we had gone up to pond 6 (the lunker pond) but didn’t catch anything. Which brought the 15 inch one more into the spot light. The difference in price for the same size fish was $ 4. While fishing in pond 6 I did get a big one on the line, however, it broke the line. I was disappointed as it was probably the biggest fish I would have ever caught. When staff member 1 heard this she began drilling me about the equipment. Was it hers or mine? What type of hook? Was the drag on or off? To add to the stress of her questioning her body language spoke volumes as well. We were made to feel like thieves, liars, and that we would not be welcomed back in the future. I drove my family over an hour to create memories with them and share something from my childhood which was spoiled by the way she interacted with us. Unfortunately we will likely never return.

Went to this farm as a way to have a fun day with the boys in our scouting group. Caught a few fish for the hr we fished, and the lady their got so mad at us because apparently we hadn’t caught enough fish for her liking. She said that we came used her grounds and that if we didn’t catch more fish she would charge us $ 5 per head just to be on her property. Not aware of the policy, one adult asked to see it in writing and she kicked him out. We tried to politely negotiate the situation but she seemed in a rage and would not stop ranting. Unfortunately we had to decide to just all leave and exit the situation, she was that unpleasant. I want to say good things about this place, beautiful grounds, fun fishing, but all I’ve got is this terrible taste in my mouth from the poor customer service. Because of the way she acted, 33 people will probably never go back to do business there. It’s to bad. From a comment previously it appears she has gone through a rough last few years, losing her husband. I hope she finds some measure of peace and joy because I can see she is struggling now!

This place has beautiful landscaping and has plenty of ponds to fish from. It is the «back to nature» place we were looking for to share with our 11, 9, and 6 year old grandkids. We wanted to get away from the technology that seems to be invading young peoples lives these days. The oldest caught a fish in the first hour and then we spent 2 hours with nibbles, no bites. However, they didn’t want to go home, they were determined and finally the fish started biting. The older two caught 4 fish each, the youngest his first fish ever measuring 14 inches. A delightful day was spent here and many memories were formed. The best part was I didn’t have to clean them and they provided the poles, buckets and nets. We had to pay for the fish and bait… a bargain for so many hours of entertainment and laughs for us. We especially enjoyed the young person (Monday afternoon, August 17) who was cleaning the fish as he provided some very detailed information about cleaning/​gutting the fish. He was also very patient in allowing this grandma to take many photos of the process and was very patient with me. In addition he supplied me with ideas as to how we might cook and serve them for dinner.
The grandkids thought it was the «best» day.

We went yesterday for about an hour and had a great time. The young staff was very friendly and helpful. The grounds are very nice and ponds are stocked with fish of all sizes.

Perfect for little ones that are learning how to fish. The ponds are nicely spaced apart with various sized trout in each pond. The ground are absolutely beautiful so you can enjoy a picnic lunch after a fun morning of fishing. My son reeled in 4 fat trout that we ate for dinner that night. Will definitely be visiting again when in the area.

Went here today to take the family out for some fishing, and we had such a great time. Not only is it pretty scenery but it’s a great activity too. A few hours out, a few fish in the bucket, and bam — memories that are just awesome.

We took our kids here and they had a fantastic time. This is a great place to go fishing if you do not know how to fish. I have no experience fishing and they provided all the equipment we needed and some instruction. They clean the fish for you and there is a picnic area where you can set up to cook your fish (bring your own spices and cutlery and bbq tools).
It was a fantastic weekend! You only pay for the fish you catch. You don’t pay for any of the equipment.
Overall I would highly recommend this place!

Took the grandson here. I gave him a new fishing outfit, and wanted him to try it out where I was sure he would catch something. I’ve taken him to concrete pond fisheries in the past, and wanted to try something a little more realistic.
The grounds are beautiful — 10 ponds on 30 acres. Plenty of trees, and easy access. Wife was able to get around in a wheelchair.
We stuck to ponds 1 – 3, easier catch and smaller fish. Yeah, right! First fish — 14″, second fish, 14″. I told him — it looks like 3 fish would probably be enough for us. He said ‘But PaPa, you said 5 fish for 5 people’. Who could turn that down? Anyway, we ended up coming home with about 7 – 8 pounds of trout (very delicious, by the way) and great grandpa — grandson day.

My family and I have been going there for 14 years, my wife was a school teacher and we headed up several class field trips there over the years. I used to enjoy the company of the owner, talking about tackle and fishing, you can tell he poured his love into the place. That was before he died last year, and after the way my family and I were treated by his widow yesterday, it is a shame we will never be going back.
My tackle had to be inspected so it would not harm the fish, my wife was hassled by the widowed owner in the park along with some of our children to make sure they were supervised, I was chewed out in front of other customers for not catching enough fish, implying I was throwing them back (which I didn’t), my vehicle being too big, and spending too much time there at the park. I was told in no uncertain terms how many fish my family had to catch, even for those who weren’t fishing and were just playing in the park.
To not stress the fish who had swallowed the hook deep, I just unhooked it from my line rather than try to dig ithe hook out and leave the torn up fish to bleed out slowly. They took my tackle that was in the fish and I had to ask for it back twice, then they overcharged me $ 5.00 for one fish because they said I caught it out of this pond instead of that pond. How would they know? Overall, the customer service was absolutely horrible and shocking compared to what it used to be.
It leaves a bad taste in my mouth what has been done to my friend’s legacy. The beautiful place he carved out of love is spoiled by bitterness.

We took our grand kids this past Saturday and they had a GREAT time. They each caught 6 fish, all 12″ to 16″. They were so much fun to watch. I would highly recommend taking your kids or grand kids to Rainbow Trout Farm for a «first» fish, they will have a blast. In the summer it’s a great place to have a picnic as well.

This place is awesome… brought my 3 grandkids ages 8,7,and 3. We let them each catch 2. The lady there was very nice and told us they had picnic and grill areas for the next time we come. The young gentleman cleaning the fish was good at talking to the kids and getting them involved. I also got to take some amazing pictures. Can’t wait to go back.

I love this place!
I used to come here as I was learning how to fish, but now I don’t go there as often, only to teach others how to fish. It’s a great place as you’re guaranteed to catch fish, and the fish are great ones too! They aren’t the gross grey stunted fish at most pay to fish places, but real colorful rainbow trout that fight really hard! They even have golden trout, rainbow trout selectively bred to be bright gold, almost albino! I don’t know what they feed them, but they taste and look like wild trout!
Although there are ten lakes, different ones are better for different skill sets and preferences. Pond 4 is a good beginner’s lake. Pond 6 has trophy size fish over 24 inches. That little pond across from Pond 4, not sure what it is called, is great for honing your skills, as the trout are surprisingly wary! My favorite lake is Lake 9, the biggest pond that is also the most secluded.
The owners are also really nice, and the service is the best part of coming here!
Definitely a great choice for those with kids or those learning to fish!

Neat place. Beautiful enviroment and knowledgeable, helpful owner. The ponds are so well stocked that you will have a bite within 10 seconds of casting! They give you everything you need, all you need bring is yourself and food if you want a picnic in this park-​like setting. Only down thing is that the bathrooms really need to be redone, they are kind of yucky, and really hard to scrub off the slime from the fish off your hands when you have to keep pressing down the knob just to keep the water on.

What a great place to take the kids to catch fish and also surround yourself with beautifulness of Mt. Hood area.
The trout is really good to eat as well!

They have everything you need there to fish with and when you are done they clean the fish for you.

Wow, what a find! We had driven by the sign for the ‘Trout Farm’ along Highway 26 for about a decade… I always thought, ‘that would be a fun place to go once we have kids’, and then, ‘that would be a fun place to go once the kids are big enough…’. This summer, they WERE big enough (3 and 5 years old) to enjoy trout fishing, so we included an excursion to the Rainbow Trout Farm during our annual Mt. Hood camping trip. Unbelievable! I had memories of fishing at trout farms as a kid: big concrete ponds, fish literally packed to the gills, a ‘factory feel’, etc. This was NOTHING like that! The Rainbow Trout Farm showcases about 30 years of love, hard work and labor on the part of a very nice couple (who are getting ready to retire)…the expansive acreage of scenic ponds, beautiful wooden bridges, and meandering paths is absolutely pastoral and straight out of a picture book. Rather than being ‘packed to the gills’, the natural looking ponds have just the right amount of trout… occasionally the boys would Unilocal with glee at seeing one jump out of the water, but otherwise you really have to search to see a fish in the water. However, we were easily able to catch 4 beautiful trout within about an hour, and the boys had an absolutely perfect ‘first fishing experience’. I highly recommend the Rainbow Trout Farm to anyone… what a treat and pleasant surprise!

If you want to go fishing and be sure that you get a fish, this is the place to go. The facilty is beautiful and great for a picnic. BBQ’s to cook your fish on. They supply the tackle, bait and staff clean the fish. You pay for the fish based on size. Different ponds have different size fish. No throw backs. Staff are great. Very family freindly. I have been taking people with disabilites here for many years.
