AAMCO Transmissions & Total Car Care

I brought my SUV here for an air conditioner repair job on February 23 & 24^th.
On the first day, they charged me $ 150 to top off my freon. They discovered the problem was greater, so I returned my car the next day for the repair quoted about $ 500-​$ 600.
At the end of the day, they charged me over $ 1300 (including the previous $ 150 fee) for all the repair work. They usually give a 12 month/​12K mile warranty for work, but due to the increased cost, I was told I would receive double that amount. Never did come in writing. When I picked up my vehicle, a different person was working and knew nothing about the ²⁴⁄₂₄ plan.
The repair lasted less than a month before the AC stopped working again.
I called to schedule a follow-​up on the next week. My job requires that I drive around the state a bit, so the following Wednesday was the only day I could afford to have them work on my car. I wanted to make sure they were prepared, so I asked the manager to please be sure he has the necessary parts.
His reply was, «That’s not the way auto mechanics work.»
Really? After I spent more than double the quoted amount and the repair job lasted less than one month, that was his reply. No apology that it didn’t work, nothing that sounded like concern at all. He just repeated «That’s not the way auto mechanics work.»
Then he said it could be something else. They don’t know what the problem is until I get there to let them take a look, and THEN they will see if they need to get some parts. When I asked if he was sure he could get the parts that day, all he could offer was «Should be.»
I reminded him that I was calling a week in advance to be prepared to fix his own work. He once again said, «That’s not the way auto mechanics work.»
Well, that’s not the way customer service works. I called my charge card company to dispute the charges, and then took my car to the dealer. They found it was a pound low on freon and the compressor didn’t work. All items that AAMCO claimed to correct. We thought that perhaps there was a leak, since the freon was low and AAMCO said they topped it off. They even kept it overnight, but could not detect any leak at all. That leaves me wondering if AAMCO ever put freon in the car or not.
Quite simply, it’s hard to know if you can trust an auto mechanic. They can tell you all sorts of stuff. If you aren’t well versed in the technical details, it all sounds good. That’s how some mechanics can rip you off. Given the evidence that I received from the dealer’s mechanic, I have absolutely no faith in AAMCO.
I would not recommend doing business here.

I wrote a review on Aamco a couple weeks ago about my experience and afterwards was contacted by the owner asking how he could rectify the situation. I thought this was extremely thoughtful and he seemed genuinely concerned. He offered to give me a free oil change or anything that may put me in good faith with their company, which was nice, but not what I was trying to do by writing my review. The owner, Jeff I believe his name is, was very kind and helpful but he was not the person I had a problem with. This place would be much better off with someone with better people skills behind the desk. Car problems are alway frustrating so the last thing someone needs after dropping their hard earned money to fix a vehicle is dealing with a rude person who makes you leave with a bad taste in your mouth.

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES USE THIS PLACE!!! I took my car there on Aug 20^th because that is the place my warranty company uses for their vehicle repairs. I took it in for what I thought was a transmission problem. I was told they would have my car a week tops. After several days of me having to call them to get a status on my car I was told they couldn’t find a problem with the transmission but had a whole list of other problems that were not covered under the warranty. They also said there was a problem with my air conditioning which is covered by my warranty and they were going to fix that. I wish I had just said no and picked up my car. Instead I told them to fix the air conditioning and I would take care of the rest. (Which by the way my mechanic checked and it only needed spark plugs and an air filer) During the course of the MONTH that they had my car. They actually said they had to take the body off my car to replace the ac lines. After a month I get it back an my ac, which worked fine when I took it in now does not blow out of the dash vents. They said it was coincidence and the part needed would not be covered under the warranty. If I wanted my air fixed I would have to pay them to fix it. I said no thanks and left with my car. So now I have ac that doesn’t work, a passenger side door that is hard to close now, and to top it all off today I notice my fuel filler door it not closed properly. I open it to see why and realize they have totally screwed that up too. The gas filler neck is wedged straight up in the very back which makes it IMPOSSIBLE to put gas in my car now! I am contacting the BBB, State Attorney’s office, and our local news station to hopefully prevent these people from doing this to someone else!

Extremely rude and unacceptable. Do NOT come here. Kyle will curse at you and attempt to sell you stuff you don’t need. Always get a second opinion don’t just go to one place and assume they’re right. There are plenty of other places to go choose them before here.

GREAT guys and stand by their work. Had a transmission replaced in a Honda (worst transmissions in the industry in my opinion) and when the replacement has issues, Mark & Kip have been extremely professional.
Also told me about a few other issues with the car that they said needed to be fixed and a time frame of when I should have them taken care of… no pressure like previous experiences at other places where they would say, «You need to get this done now or you might not even make it home».
Hats off to these guys and they have a life-​long customer.
