Are these pies dairy free? I purchased one of the Chicken Pot Pies with Vegetables this week(I try to buy locally made foods rather than big brand when possible) but my family and I were very surprised when we went to eat it — it was not made with gravy, but rather some gelatinous matrix, which was honestly really unappealing and flavorless. Upon reading the ingredients I can see that there is no butter or cream used(neither in the filling nor the«pastry»). There REALLY needs to be better information on the package — labeling it «Dairy Free» would let your customers know ahead of time what to expect. It seems like very important information to include on the package. I am rating this two stars because I think that if you are a person who is dairy free, this would be a good product if you were craving chicken pot pie. For those of us who can consume dairy — be aware!

We bought the no veg pie at Hannaford cus it looked liked better than a commercially mass produced pie. It was not cheap but I figured a good quality pie filled with chicken would not be. Here’s what we liked: chicken was very good, tender no junk. Crust, very pastry-like & flaky. Here’s what we did not like: the primary ingredient is a fairly flavorless & colorless unseasoned gel goo that I’m guessing is thickened with corn starch. I had hoped the«sauce» would be just enough to cover all the chicken. However, the chicken was lost in the sauce, so to speak. When we seasoned it, over rice it was tasty. Just not enough of the main ingredient. A bit of a disappointment.

Tried a Heidi’s Heavenly Chicken Pot Pie with vegetables tonight. We purchased at a McKinnon’s Market. The price was $ 16.95 for the 40 oz. sized pie. Honestly, I thought it would be exceptional since it was so pricey, but exceptional isn’t a word I could use. I cooked for the required time and internal temperature. The sauce in the pie was pure white, basically tasteless and had a white colored gel texture for the sauce. I believe it was the potato starch they use for the thickener. The veggies did not add anything but color. The chicken was shredded and very good and tender, and the crust was excellent! I’m giving 2 stars, but would rate 2−½ stars. I think if they used all fresh ingredients and actual chicken broth, they would buy a ton of flavor. And celery is probably one of the most important ingredients in a chicken pie, in my opinion. I think their intent is there, just a lot of money for a pie with not much taste. The Chicken 5 Stars The Crust 5 Stars The Frozen Mixed Vegetables 1 Star The Tasteless Gel Broth 1 Star
