Hue Quang Buddhist Temple

Very large and beautiful temple with great statues and rooms to pray! Their Vietnamese new year celebration is wonderful and full of spirit. My parents and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Stopped by today worth while to see for yourself no one can interject, an personal experience that each must do on their own to speak.

This is one of the most popular temples in OC. My parents wanted to go to the temple since they were offering vegetarian lunch for the lunar calendar event. There was almost no parking available and I had to do street parking. This temple is always crowded when I go because of all the holidays and events that they put on. The temple has a beautiful humongous statue in the middle of the meditation room. Great place to go for any Buddhist events!

Just went there for Lunar New Year last night and love the festival-​atmosphere but the loos of the star comes from lack of control. They use a special kind of firework for Lunar New Year and one got so loud it rang my ear (1 day passed and my ears are still uneven) and set off car alarms.
Still, I would come again for a next Lunar New Year.

On the 15^th day (full moon) of the 7^th month on the lunar calendar, Vietnamese Buddhists as well as other Buddhist and Taoist cultures, celebrates Vu Lan or referred to in English as the Ghost Festival. The month itself is symbolic as the Ghost Month. During time we honor the deceased: the ghost of our ancestors and other lost souls. It is also a time that reminds us of our filial piety.
It is currently the 7^th month on the lunar calendar and I was searching for a temple somewhat closer to work for the nightly prayer. I would have gone to Bao Quang Temple, since I used to teach Vietnamese Sunday school there, but they do not have prayer sessions every night. Instead I called around the temples in the area and luckily the Hue Quang Temple does their nightly prayers at 7pm.
I came by and to be honest the temple was not as big I imagined it to be, but I think the temple does good in maintaining a better quality in its’ overall presence than other temples that are distracted by square footage and fame.
The main hall was absolutely majestic and stunning. Every slight detail was well thought out and the architecture of this temple does not fall second to any larger temples. I actually prefer its’ meek perfection.
Coming to a new temple can be a bit intimidating, but I thought the monks and nuns here were very nice. They were welcoming and friendly. Even the old ladies who where here for prayer seemed pretty nice as well. To no surprise, they are pretty cliquish but that is to be expected…
At 7pm the prayer session starts and it is followed by a quick walking meditation. The duration is approximately 75 minutes.
I came here with the weight of the world on my heart and I left feeling so at peace. I forgot how nice it was to go to temple without additional *behind-​the-​scenes* responsibilities to my youth group or my little kiddies… And definitely nice without all the people knowing my whole family and the drama and gossip you get from a temple your whole family goes to.
I will definitely be returning here to join their nightly prayers at 7pm. They have normal praying sessions when it isn’t the 7^th month. And I look forward to trying some of the vegetarian food they have here.

I came here for Tet 2 yrs ago & recently came back bc my mom passed away. We did the 7÷7÷49 every week here for 7 wks & they provided excellent memorial service for us. The temple is a beautiful well kept place. Their vegetarian foods is one of the best I’ve eaten… Tasted like real foods & not veggie or tofu esp the «canh chua»… My favorite. Will continue to come here even though they ask for lots of $$ for services… But $$ was worth it for the kind of detail we received’.

I came here for TET and the little festivities here.
The people were very friendly, and put up a good show.
It was very well organized! No complaints. People were even here
praying inside and out.
This temple has a very nice layout and the event was very nice!
I will be back next year!

Very festive during Chinese New Years. Lots of Asian gather and pray for a great lucky upcoming year. With that in mind you can expect parking to be extremely hectic and the crowd size massively enormous. No doubt it was but this is a really good place to ring in the New Year if you are Asian and Buddhist. I am neither…
Just kidding. Well Im not Buddhist but I still came through so my mom can do a bit of prayer or whatever (I don’t know why she prays here, she is not Buddhist either) lol! I still prefer other temples over this place in terms of sites and scenery but this place is really close to my grandmothers house and we were in the neighborhood.

I attended tonight’s worship. It was beautiful. I’m not a practicing Buddhist nor do I speak Vietnamese but I was welcomed by kind souls. I’m definitely coming back.

Go to temple during new yr is good

Every year on Chinese new years you would be able to find me here and also at multiple temples but for the count down you’ll find me here with a large group of people throwing firecrackers around like there’s no tomorrow. I go here because they don’t restrict fireworks and fire crackers. ;) which is awesome !!!

After seeing this temple be broadcast live on the Vietnamese channel for Tet, I decided to take a drive down to join in the festivities in celebrating/​bringing in the New Year.
The parking lot for the temple is really really tiny, so many people just parked in the surrounding residential area or in the shopping plaza on the corner of Euclid and Westminster.
So in celebration of the New Year, the temple was deck out in the traditional colors of red and gold. The performances for the night was filled with singers, dance performances, etc. And though it’s never ask for or press upon, a little donation is always appreciated.

As a non-​religious person like myself, I would like to first say this is a beautiful temple. I come from a traditional Buddhist background and have been coming here since I was a little kid.
Anyways, I’m really writing a review of the food served here. The Buddhist monk’s diet is consisted of very little to none meat. The building next to the main temple sells these amazing egg rolls. They’re vegetarian, light and refreshing. I love my red meat but this has to be the BEST EGG ROLLS THAT I’VE EVER HAD. Whenever my mom goes up here, I make sure to ask her to bring some back because its THAT GOOD. Don’t be scared that I said vegetarian. It isn’t like that Chinese-​version stuff that you get elsewhere… Plus, you don’t feel guilty about eating something fried because the money they make goes back into the monastery.
So if you’re ever in the area, make sure to stop by and ask for some egg rolls. They really don’t have the best English so bring a Viet-​speaking friend or ask for «Cha Gio.» Oh and make sure you donate because its going to a good cause.
Some notes:
There are several parts to the temple… the main temple and then there are 2 parking lots adjacent to the main place.
During tet, aka Vietnamese New Year, parking is horrendous, mostly because its Asian drivers, which are bad drivers stereotypically. We ended up parking at some lot and walking over cuz I didn’t want my car to get hit…
