Dr. Mata and his entire staff were amazing to work with. I have no issues going to the dentist, but sometimes you are not sure if you are going to someone honest or capable, well Dr. Mata is both. I was referred to him for an implant and he was just wonderful, I had no pain or issues.
I would highly recommend his office.

Dr. Mata is a man with a lot of integrity, compassion and wonderful talent in his field of work. I have been a patient of Dr. Mata for seventeen years and have never received such excellent care by any other Periodontist like I have with him. He takes his time to know you as an individual and pays close attention to your issues and does his utmost best to fight for your periodontal health. All my life I had an aversion towards dentists but going to his office puts my mind at rest knowing he is gentle and excellent at what he does.
With regard to his chair-​side manners it is outstanding and he does his very best to minimize your pain which requires great skill and patience. I have always left his office feeling well taken care of and confident that whatever treatment he suggested was actually needed for the health benefits of my current periodontal disease. Going to his office is always ok in my mind because I know I am in the best of hands not only with him but his staff also who are all wonderful and caring individuals. It is important for me to share with everyone that I have never bothered to write-​up a Unilocal review and yet I took the time to write about Dr. Mata and his staff. I felt compelled to do so because I do not want other people to have bad experiences unnecessarily when you can have the best!

I cannot begin to tell you how grateful and blessed to have been a patient of Mr. Mata.. Last year I had a very complicated medical issue that I needed his wealth of experience and skill to help and correct my problem. This was no easy task for the skilled oral surgeons. I can tell you that Dr. Mata is a wonderful Periodontist who I have known for years.

Like other people I’m a huge Unilocaler and when my Dentist referred to me to see a Periodontist in Huntington Beach. I immediately looked him up, and soon to find out he didn’t have any reviews. So i did my research and found Dr. Mata. wow all the positive Unilocal reviews were spot on. Dr. Mata is a must see if you are having any type of gum/​teeth issues! He is honest, caring, compassionate and most importantly comforting. I was determined I wanted to get a gum graft on my front teeth because I didn’t like the appearance of them. I went in for a consultation, and he told me I wasn’t qualified, while I was trying to practically convince him to do the surgery for me. He refused to because it was unnecessary to get the surgery done. Which in my eyes make him stand out more because he could have been like an other Dentist and made a profit out of it. But he truly cares for his patients, and would rather focus on his patients needs and efficiency.

Recently had a gum graft done. I’ve heard terrible stories from people who had this procedure done. Dr. Mata took great care of me and to be honest it wasn’t all that bad (for a gum graft). Great staff of people working for him and Dr. Mata is a really nice guy who explains everything thoroughly. He cares bout his patients and I’d recommend him to anybody needing a periodontist.

Great staff and super professional. I had a deep cleaning done by Gwen and she was extremely gentle and friendly.

I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Mata! He is the best. I was referred to him a few months ago because I was experiencing sensitivity on one of my back teeth from an exposed root. To make a long story short, he did not give up on me. We tried multiple things to make the sensitivity go away and my tooth was being so stubborn! After a couple of procedures did not to the trick, he continued to do more research to find a solution!
He would call and check up on me personally after each appointment as well. He is very nice and caring. I’m so happy that he found the solution to my sensitivity. I will definitely go back for any other procedures that need to be done. I know that he will do a good job and not give up on me.

Dr. Mata fixed all issues I had. Great communication and follow through.

Dr. Mata took extra care to fix the mistakes his office staff made. He is a caring and experienced dentist, with excellent customer service.

I first heard of Dr. Mata when I began working as a dental hygienist in the same medical building. I work for Dr. Shireen located on the second level. I would see many of Dr. Mata’s patients and really came to admire his line of work. I’ve been suffering with dental pain on tooth #8 for the past 2 years. I’ve had several surgeries to try and salvage my front tooth but everything had failed. I had two apicoectomies plus a root canal retreat and the pain lingered. I had frequent headaches caused by my dental pain.
I decided to take a more drastic measure and have a dental implant placed. I was scared, of the possibility, of having receded gums. I didn’t want my implant to look fake. I was nervous about the procedure and had my reservations.
After consulting with Dr. Shireen we decided Dr. Mata would be the one to perform my implant. My main concern was making sure my gums would be symmetrical and that I didn’t end up with any embrasures (open gaps) between my teeth. I was confident Dr. Mata would take good care of my gums seeing as he is a periodontist.
The procedure was performed ⁰²⁄₂₀₁₃ and it was a total success. My gums did not recede and I did not end up with large gaps between my teeth. The implant is strong and firm. I don’t even think about my tooth anymore. The throbbing pain has finally gone away. I am very happy with Dr. Mata’s work.
I can honestly say I am happy with my smile and no longer feel embarrassed. Thanks again Dr. Mata.

Wish I could give 10 stars! My son needed surgery and I was referred to Dr. Mata by our primary dentist. My son had his surgery and everything went well as Dr. Mata promised! Dr. Mata is a great surgeon & extremely gentle which helps w/​kids surgery. The recovery was even easier and faster than we expected. Thank you Dr. Mata and the wonderful office staff and assistant. You made this a very easy experience for both me and my son.

Everyone in this office is super friendly! They care about your well being and put you, the patient first. Setting appointments with Marsha could not have been better. She called my insurance to verify what would be covered in a timely manner.
Gwen did an awesome job with my deep cleaning experience. She made sure that I did not feel any pain throughout the 2, 2 hour cleanings.

I had a difficult tooth extraction and implant which completed painlessly and quickly. The staff at Dr. Mata’s office is extremely friendly and professional. It was my first implant and the first extraction I had in a while, so i didn’t know what to expect. But Dr. Mata and his staff made me feel right at ease. The entire procedure itself was no worse than the full month xrays that were required for the insurance approval. Would definitely go back to him again if needed and highly recommend him!

I consulted a couple of different periodontists before deciding to go with Dr. Mata. After having several procedures done, I think I made a good choice.
He’s got a great chairside manner — he chats with you beforehand to put you at ease. Also, he’s very gentle while doing the work. After a while, I just sunk into the chair. Before I knew it, the procedure was over.
His office staff members are pleasant. Particularly good is Marsha, his expert office manager and insurance biller. She really knows her stuff and stays on top of things, so it makes life so much easier. She’ll figure your bill out to the dime, and that’s what it ends up being after all is said and done with the insurance. (Ask for a pre-​authorization — she’s a master with those). Also, if she schedules your appointment for 11:00, you can be pretty sure you won’t have to wait much past 11:10 or so to be seen. Joan is also very nice.
Also, Gwen does a great job of cleaning your teeth. She’s very pleasant and thorough. Plus, she’s very generous with goodie bags.
