We enjoyed an excellent meal and good service last night at Hectors on Broadway. My only complaint and my reason for a 4 as opposed to a 5 star where the 3 security guards at the front door… Not the most welcoming experience to be greeted by security at 7:00 on a Friday evening. I am not opposed to security but perhaps Hectors could swing for a host and keep the security in the shadows.

I will NEVEREVEREVEREVER come back to this place. I came for lunch with my coworker which was about 1:06 so it wasn’t crowded we took a seat and a waitress brought us chips, salsa and water right away nice. Then it took another waitress about 10 – 15 min to come to our table and ask us if we were ready to order. We said sure my friend ordered a steak fajita and I ordered a Ribeye and Lobster tail plus I asked her if I can get a coke, she said ok. She placed our orders and then stand next to the register and was drinking her soda and standing around. few minutes passed and my friend said she asked for a coke«Ohhh sorry ok» she said. our food came out my friend got her fajita a minute later my food came out. When I seen my plate I right away told my friend this is not a Ribeye and the lobster was cut in pieces had a weird sauce with bacon plus the meat they gave me was a rolled up carne asada(steak) I was like WTF! is this. I called our waitress told her this is not the steak and lobster I ordered she goes back to talk to the chef, comes back to tell me oooh he is a new chef and we don’t have Ribeye she offered a $ 6 discount because I still had a lobster tail when I said no she offered to half price I said sorry but no, I did not order this plus I don’t eat bacon. PEOPLE if you are going to open a restaurant hire better waitresses and chef that knows the difference between a Ribeye and a Steak.

I will not be back. Went with a few friends to watch Mexico Copa America soccer game and it felt dangerous. This review is solely based on the environment(I’d give it a, but Unilocal doesn’t allow if I wanna leave a review)… We showed up early, a friend chose this place because of the Mexican feel and figured we could enjoy the game with other fellow Mexicans and have a good time. It started off ok. It was super packed. I will say the building is cute and has potential to be a classier Mexican restaurant like Javier’s if they keep all the thugs out. Fast forward to half time, a fight almost broke out. You would think security would have kicked the guys out immediately. Instead it looked like they were toying around and just holding these guys back. Finally, after what felt like 10min, security kicked them out. The guys were outside the building for another 10min or so, signaling the other guys to come out to fight. Good gawd, someone call the cops asap. I immediately felt uncomfortable and unsafe. We all know how SA can get, and I was worried they were gonna pull out a gun any minute. Anyway, the environment started feeling hostile and the people were downing drinks since Mexico was losing. The restaurant decided it was then a good idea to turn off the soccer game volume and crank up super loud Banda music. I immediately left. I saw two other people about to get into a fight because one said something that the other couldn’t hear because of the loud ass music… Not a smart move with the music Hector’s… One of the dudes diffused the situation, but come on– One more drink and no one would be able to diffuse anything. I split right away. Come on guys, show some class and maturity and hold your liquor. No need to act ghetto for an idiotic game.

This is my first time coming to this place. The location is very up to date with the Santa Ana theme, however, if you are a party of girls, don’t expect to get much attention from the waiters. MENGETALLTHEATTENTION. The waiters are a little unprepared to do the job, lack of attention, menu knowledge, facial expressions«I hate this place just give me a big tip so I can go home«. My good was NOT great. El arroz no tenía sabor, los frijoles parece que abrieron una lata de frijoles y listo ! Las micheladas si están ricas pero no un lugar donde regresaría.

So this place is finally open, they seem to have a big social media presence promoting the heck out of they’re restaurants. Or I must say promoting the waitress! ! I’ve been to the one on Mc Fadden and Standard. By far this new one is super nice, the food was good. We had a Molcajete mixto. Pretty yummy, comes with rice and soup beans, rather have refried. And tortillas. Service was ok, you could tell waitress was NEW! She brought us to go menu’s and never came back with real menus. I asked if they served seafood and had to guess the menu as she stud there agreeing with me. Then she said Wow! You know our menu, like hello seafood joint… lol Next our bill was $ 23.22 we paid $ 40, and she short changed us by .78 cents. So guess our bill was $ 24. Simple math usually done by cash register? Not bad just need to better train Wait staff! Oh, and they still don’t have liquor license. FYI, for the drinkers.

I went there the other day and I have to say I am pleasantly surprised by the new ownership. They have definitely stepped their game up with the new selection of food!!! I ordered the molcajete combinado with shrimp, steak, chicken, and a little chorizo. The dish came out in a super hot molcajete smelling delicious! Once I let it cool down and it definitely was as delicious as it smelled. The sauce that the meat was in was really good and all the different kinds of meat were really tender and fresh too! The new waitresses there were are really friendly and gave me great service. The new owners that were at the register were extremely nice and made me feel like I was home! Can’t wait to eat here again!

Let me preface by clarifying to everyone that this is the new third location for Mariscos Hector and it recently took over the Las Brisas #2 location. The store front hasn’t really changed; there is still a marlin on the window. There is a new owner who I am going to assume is named Hector; he had a nice conversation with my boyfriend outside the restaurant. In reality, I would like to give this place 2.5 stars, but we all know Unilocal doesn’t allow half-stars or point systems. My boyfriend and his friend had a good time and thoroughly enjoyed their food. Me not so much and here’s why… After making our way around the Noches de Altares/Night of the Altars festival, we decided to poke our heads in Mariscos Hector for dinner. Most of the patrons came from the event and there was a very loud mariachi band performing. After we sat down they finished their set for the night so it got pretty quiet. We each ordered three different plates: the friend ordered a seafood combination dish that included crab, fish, clam and basically anything that swam in the ocean, my bf ordered a shrimp cocktail and a marlin taco, and I ordered the fried shrimp plate. The guys really liked their dishes and I knew I shouldn’t have settled for the fried shrimp and ordered the shrimp tacos instead… but I felt kind of rushed by the server, who by the way, seemed pretty annoyed to be serving our table probably because she took us to be tourists. The friend asked for a photo of her sugar skull makeup(which she obliged and then kinda sarcastically said, «$ 5») and when my bf commented how much he enjoyed the marlin tacos, she rolled her eyes. I also want to note that when my bf asked what exactly was in the taco, she responded with, «It’s kinda like a fish.» *crickets* You’re probably wondering how my fried shrimp plate was; it was OK. Again, I should have stuck with tacos. I did, however, try the shrimp cocktail and concluded that the juice was very light and refreshing. There was a good clam juice to tomato juice ratio, so I would order that again. It wasn’t all that busy inside the restaurant considering there was a huge event happening right outside their storefront. The other waitresses were kinder and checked in on us regularly. We had to go up front for our check when I think it’s normally brought to the table. I am still devoted to my local mariscos restaurant, but I know that my bf will want to come back and while I am OK with paying another visit and trying something different, I would be just as OK if I ate some place else.
