Oh how I wish they had one of these in every city! It’s a repurposes paradise!
Humans as heavy consumers do not realize the potential of their cast offs. This place will give you pause to contemplate the possibilities.
They have hundreds of useable tiles, fabrics, notions, toys, corks, bottle tops, burlap bags just to name a few. Go, just go.

This store is amazing! I love it! They have great products that are offered at really great prices. Whenever I go in the staff is always friendly and helpful.

This is a GREAT Shop.
What this shop does is to present an eclectic mix of all kinds of things and make them available to the customers to use in their creative art projects or whatever… I would not do this store justice if I were to list what they make available, as I am sure it will be totally different tomorrow or next week. What I will say is, if you want to find inspiration for your next mixed media art project and then find some of the objects to create it with, this is the place to go. Or, just come in to walk around and see what they have… That too is also fun. You never know what you will find.
Art From Scrap is located just a few blocks south of State St., which is the main street for retail and dining in Santa Barbara. So, you can walk to it or, of course, make the drive.
Great place to visit for a fun, inspiring, and creative experience.

Where have you been all of my life Art from Scrap? Well, actually I’ve driven by often and meant to go in, but finally after lugging my haul from the farmer’s market to my car, I went it. LOVE it. If you think you don’t need anything, let me tell you — you are wrong! I bought a key chain and a bull roarer! Score! Friendly staff and such organized displays! I must come here more often!

Yesterday I went to art from scrap for the very first time. Many people have told me about this place, and how great it is to have such a great shop in Santa Barbara, especially if your job requires for you to be creative or if you have a project based class. The owner and employees were very nice, and patiently waited for me when I left the cash register to buy more supplies for my projects, and even let me stash the two shopping bags I was carrying. The place has great prices and is a great place for artists, preschools, and creative people in general to get supplies! Just remember that it is best to pay for your things with cash and that they have a $ 8 minimum for credit card purchases.

Not merely a shop — a work of the highest manifestation of process art in itself. If you want to see this brilliant effort in its full glory, go on Saturday morning, when you will find, like a Marrakech bazaar, sometimes up to a hundred very young kids oogling over countless bins of stuff that you and I would recycle or trash, admiring these objects as the sacred treasures which, in their truest identity, they are, and expostulating with each other on their relative value. These conversations are worth more than words in their spirit, which all too many of us have forgotten.
One could film a documentary here, but that would profane the experience — because, as has been said: «Music — it’s in the air — once it’s gone — you can never quite capture it. .»
On Saturdays A.M., one can also take in the S.B. Farmer’s Market, best on the Central Coast.

As an artist who works on a budget with mixed-​media, this place is a haven. From beautiful designer scrap fabrics to little rare beads and interesting tin boxes, this place has everything you need as long as you bring the creativity to use it.
Now, I live in Seattle and love this city, but god do I miss Art for Scrap. There’s really no place like it.

Great find. My child took a «creatures» class and loved it; I stocked up on supplies. Can’t say I discovered the by-​the-​bag pricing system others mention in their reviews. The line was quite long due to many people buying a number of small, individually priced items. That’s how it goes and I didn’t mind waiting but luckily my husband was around to entertain the kids — you would not want to bring a young child here by yourself, since it’s basically a candy store with a LOT of VERY interesting stuff at grab level. We will definitely be back!

What an awesome resource. I knew of Art From Scrap when I was at UCSB, eons ago, but never ventured inside until a couple of weeks ago.
They have all sorts of random materials, from tile to fabric to old postcards to tiny electronic boards to cardboard rolls… seriously, the variety is staggering. I bought leather scraps and some nice card stock, but I could’ve gotten away with oh so much more had I not restrained myself. Plus prices were super reasonable. Next time I visit SB I’ll be sure to stop by!

I was thrilled to discover Santa Barbara has its own art/​craft supply recycling shop. Art From Scrap just celebrated their 20^th anniversary, and the inventory does feel like it has been building up for awhile – it’s your basic crafty grandma’s attic, and you’re free to browse to your heart’s content through the many bins of buttons, wooden rings, fabric cuttings, circuit boards, wine corks, broken jewelry bits, used paints and brushes, scrap paper, and so forth.
They have a great bulk section where you can load up a small bag ($ 4) or a large bag (didn’t catch the price) with whatever odd assortment of bulk items that suits your fancy. They let me have a half a small bag of corks for $ 2, so it’s nice you don’t have to buy more than you need of any item (in case you don’t want your own home to start resembling Art From Scrap).
Outside there are piles of wood and half full paint cans, pretty floor tiles, and more fabric remnants. Just walking around this place will get your creativity flowing.

This place is a budget-​stricken collage-​makers DREAM. Buttons, wires, pipe cleaners, foam, pots, fake foliage, fabric scraps, table cloths, old photographs, tile, beads, old magazines, bottlecaps…
