Thanks to Dr. Sager, I found out that I don’t actually have asthma. However, there are a few problems. The diagnosis process takes for freaking ever because you will have to return for at lest 3 more appointments for testing that actually has to be done on separate days. This stinks if you are commuting from Lompoc or the surrounding areas where there is no pulmonologist. To make up for it, though, the lady doing the testing was really nice and the tests were kind of fun. If you don’t have asthma, the stuff the make you huff to induce an episode works almost like laughing gas. Dr. Sager harped on me about my weight in a report when he didn’t even discuss it with me at the office. It was humiliating. I have some injuries from a work comp accident which leave me with almost no ability to exercise. He also went on about not eating peppermints, chocolate, or coffee to avoid acid reflux. I still want to know why docs forget that medications like Alleve or naprosyn cause digestive problems. So if you’re having acid reflux that might be contributing to your lung problems, change Alleve out for Tylenol before you think you have true and unexplainable GERD. I wish I had caught on to this. I can’t figure out why docs mess that stuff up, even my ENT forgot to mention that medications can be causing you harm. To Dr. Sager’s credit, he actually called me to apologize for his comments, but they are still in my record. It really doesn’t take a medical degree to tell me I need to lose weight. In any case, I’m sure he’ll figure out who wrote this if he gives it any thought. I dropped them a star for that, but the knowledge I walked out with proved invaluable and revealed the real source of my problems. So, I’m thankful… except now I know that I’m actually plagued with allergies. :(
