This is no longer Ed’s! It’s now Nemo’s and can hardly compare! I could not cut my pancakes with a knife and the portions are small and the price is the same! I explained to the new folks that we are neighbors who frequently came here but we will have to reconsider at this point and I said you must change your pancake recipe immediately! No response. Oh well, too bad for you… you just lost two! Ed, we miss you, take care of yourself!

This place is ok. Nothing spectacular. But I will say this — they serve up some MONSTER burgers. I would highly recommend the Avocado Burger if you’re going to come here. It’s large, tasty and it comes with nearly half an avocado. Plus it’s less than $ 8. In terms of burgers, it beats St. John’s in my opinion. However, the rest of the food is just ok. Ed’s is a place you go to when you live in the area and want a quick but heavy breakfast, the prices are cheap, service is ok and the burgers are solid. I don’t love the place but it’s a good option in the area.

For the people leaving a one star review because this place was closed recently… he had to have heart surgery, so cut the guy some slack. I have never heard of Ed’s Diner… and I had grown up in San Jose and attended school in Santa Clara. Ed’s Diner is a bit out of the way from the usual spots in San Jose and Santa Clara that I frequent, so it’s no wonder I had never really heard of it. I wasn’t thrilled with the sandwich I got — turkey, avocado and bacon… on wheat — toasted wheat. I should’ve gone with my instinct of breakfast because this seemed like it would do breakfast better than the sandwich I had. I may come back here, but forking out$ 15 for lunch(sammich, fries, soda and tip) for a lunch I really could’ve made at home(and much better, I might add!) doesn’t really make me want to come back at all. For the love of all that is holy and cheesecake, can the server please move faster than the speed of slow?! I really didn’t want to spend over an hour waiting for my order to be taken, food to arrive and to finally get my check.

We stopped by this place this weekend since the reviews seemed pretty good. This is your normal older style diner, so if your expecting white table cloth service then move along. The feel is a older diner inside but the prices and food make up for it. We ordered the Pancake Special, 2 Huge pancakes, 2 eggs and bacon. I was amazed how fast the food came to us !!. The pancakes were really good and I think better then most of the hot spot locations of have had them at, the egg’s were fine and they gave us 5 slices of Large crisp bacon on each plate !! Thumbs Up :) The coffee was your normal drip and serve coffee, so don’t expect much! Service was pretty good. The lady that took our order was very nice and was handing the whole floor by herself and cleaning tables after people, refilled our coffee without having to ask her. Over all, it wasn’t to busy or insanely loud inside and we sat right down without a wait. This place is a little out of the way for most people, but if you find yourself over in Santa Clara looking for a great and filling breakfast, give it a shot. Happy Dining…

Finally decided to try this place. After all, it’s walking distance from us. This place used to be a Dairy Bell until they closed down. It’s clean. They used brand new tables and chairs which loses that diner feel. I ordered the chorizo omelet. It tasted ok. You have to eat it right away otherwise the oil of the chorizo starts to cover the whole omelet. They should have added salsa or some sort of refreshing side dish or even onions and cilantros. Eating the oily omelet gives you that yucky feeling in your stomach after awhile. The pancake smelled so yummy! I thought it would be delish but that was ok too. I’ve had better. Tasted so bland. I had to load it with the butter and drench it with the syrup. It’s convenient for us but it’s not a place I would recommend to anyone. I wish the Dairy Bell stayed.

One lady working the flow… One cook working up the dishes to be served. Mustard and I strolled in around 11:30am and was seated fairly quickly since the lady told us to seat ourselves(which was fine) but I had to get up to grab their limited menu. I wasn’t too impressed. The lady was not happy when I was contemplating my order so she left to serve the other table. I did not appreciate being rushed. the order once we did order took a long time to get to the table. My Mustard had the 2 eggs and bacon + hash browns and whole wheat toast, I had the Joe’s Special(ground beef, spinach, mushrooms, cheddar cheese) w/home fries and whole wheat toast. The omelet was good but I can get that anywhere. the home fries were good but not enough for me to return. In the end I tipped the lady generously only because I know how it is to work in the service industry. I am not sure if she was the owner/manager or a server but either ways, she was running and rushing.

Ed’s Diner is a good place to eat breakfast. They serve eggs, bacon, ham, veggies, pancakes, waffles, etc. There are lots of choice for your morning hungry bellies. The only reason I do not like this restaurant is the temperature inside the restaurant. It is FREEZING inside. There is no heater. If you go in the morning, or even in the afternoon, you will sit in a cold chair, at a cold table, in a cold cold cold restaurant. The only thing that was warm was my food. I think my food was hot on the stove but it was barely warm when I ate it. I think the ice-box restaurant cools down your food before it reaches your table. I had a runny nose while ordering my meal, eating my breakfast, and when paying the bill. Seriously, management needs to fix this situation. One space heater in the restaurant and patron’s arguing over which way to point the heater is ridiculous.

Service = friendly, fast. Décor = simple, well-lit. Food = delicious. It is on the blander side, but that’s what the salt and pepper shakers are for. I had their hamburger steak with two eggs and hash browns and rye toast. Their coffee is mediocre, and they don’t offer cream… instead it’s 2% milk. Eh… Prices = cheap. You can leave spending under $ 11 per person.(Or less depending on what you order.) Overall, it was a decent place for a quick and easy breakfast/lunch.

Must snack before shooting with the girls at Reed’s range. Well it’s the only place around besides 7⁄11 so off I go! Friendly little place with one server one cook in an open kitchen working hard to crank out orders. I ordered then Lentil soup which tasted fresh and house made. They added some fresh Parmesan on top, which gave it that little boost of flavor needed to balance it out. It was the perfect healthy snack I needed to keep my hands steady for the range. Has a 50’s diner feel, without trying super hard to put tons of old style decoration up. Bet you could find a lot of places like this back then! Can’t quite give it 5 stars, it was good but not lip smackingly awesome and reviewing the menu it’s a tad pricey for diner. I would go here post/pre range again for sure!

I’m sad this place isn’t local to me. I’d like to try other things on the menu. The waitress(es?) were nice. I speculate a mother/daughter pair but they could just be close from working with each other. We ordered 1 pancake combo plate, eggs scrambled extra dry, 1 side of homefries and 1 side of french toast. We came in starving and we finished our food with a bit left over. That’s how huge and generous the portions are. The only drawbacks: The prices were a little steep for a diner but not bad at all for California(I’m from Missouri originally and am used to seeing massive combos for like 5 bucks). But the portions, again, were huge and we shared our plate and STILL had more food so… if you’re antsy about the price, share a plate and get a side or so and you’ll be all set! Not our favorite rendition of french toast, though it was far from«bad». We like ours a little crunchier and a little more cinnamon-y. Eggs were so-so. No matter what, 90% of the time when ordering eggs well done or dry/extra dry… it doesn’t happen. I can’t fault them too much for failing were everyone else fails. Are the cooks nervous I’ll complain about hard eggs? I have no clue. In any case they did taste fresh. We had to add salt and pepper to everything savory but that’s standard for most diners where they let the patron add saltiness as desired. Just don’t taste it and be saddened it’s a little lackluster without some salt. On the good side: The pancakes were huge, fluffy and tasted great. The bacon was flavorful and cooked decently. Should have ordered mine crispy, though. The homefries were really good. Cooked with peppers, onions and tomatoes and tasted like it too. :) We arrived around 11am-noon and it was getting pretty busy but we were helped quickly and didn’t wait too long for our food. If we’re in the area we’ll be back!

Freak’n Deelish !! Went in today for ’ jumbo bacon cheeseburger ’ & when it was served, it was HUMONGOUS! Served on a french roll with TWO big sized patties. Fresh not frozen. It filled my appetite, couldn’t finish all at once, had to save the other half for later. Anyways, GREAT and FRIENDLY customer service, deserve a tip. I will be coming back more often.

I was craving a burger and did a search and lo and behold this place popped up. I was pleasantly surprised with all the good reviews it got but the skeptic in me thought I have to try it for myself, it can’t be ALL that. Since it’s only a 5 minute drive from my job I thought I’d give it a shot. I got there just after they opened and was the first customer and sat at the counter, which has a cool wood finish to it. Anyway on to the menu. Lots of stuff looked good but I settled on the jumbo bacon cheeseburger. I noticed it was served on a french roll and that made my decision easier. I had been under the impression it would just be a bigger sized burger but when my server brought it out it was in fact TWO bigger sized burgers. Holy lord I felt like a kid in a candy store. I had to cut it in half to begin eating it and when I was done, 3 words came to mind. Best. Burger. Ever. No nasty frozen patties but nice and fresh. The potato salad was so-so. Not bad but my fiancé has ruined me off anyone else’s tater salad. Yes hers is just that good. Otherwise a phenomenal meal at a great price, that big burger and a soda set me back $ 10 and change. Going again today after work

Came here for the 1st time yesterday for brunch, and based on the last 9 reviews before mine(sorted by date), 7−5stars and 2−4stars, cool, must be a great place yes? Atmosphere: –Nice place, corner of Aldo and Lafayette, can’t miss it –Pretty clean interior. A bar, wooden chairs/tables, but no booths, but that’s cool. –lots of parking Food:(What we ordered today) –Avocado Cheeseburger n Fries(my son’s) –Short stack(3) buttermilk pancakes w/whip n extra butter(I always order whip n extra butter when I get pancakes, hehe) For the avocado cheeseburger, the waitress asked my son how he wants the burger cooked… he said MEDIUM. Even though the burger’s presentation looked good(see attached pix) when it was brought to the table, it was DRY! And. it was cooked WELLDONE instead. Told my son to tell them to redo it, but he just ate it anyways shaking his head. I’m a pancake nut and every breakfast place I go to, I only order pancakes! For my short stack pancakes, again when it was brought to the table, it looked really good and fluffy(see attached pix). Low and behold, these pancakes had like a hard texture on the outside, and it wasn’t as soft and fluffy as it looked on the inside. Pancakes were actually«dry» tasting? I don’t know. Sorry Ed’s but Country Inn Café still has the best pancakes around.(Sorry, a little plug there…) Overal: They give you 2 menus, one for breakfast and one for lunch and breakfast served all day. Lots of variety to choose from. Service was great and waitress kept refiling my coffee and our waters. You know, I REALLYREALLY wanted to like the food at place based on the reviews. Or perhaps I need to try the other menu items since this was my 1st time here? But then again, 1st time impressions are important to me. 3 stars for me and I’ll PROBABLY give this place another shot :)

A well hidden gem of a diner! My friend and I came here about a week ago when we were both absolutely craving burgers. We’d seen good reviews on Unilocal for this place and had been meaning to try it out for a while. Boy were we glad we did! When you get to Ed’s the place throws you for a loop. It’s in a pretty random location and the actual restaurant gives off dual vibes. The room itself isn’t that nice and looks like it could use a makeover. But the furniture is actually super nice, with updated wooden tables and chairs. But who cares about that… let’s get to the food! We each ordered a bacon burger and added avocado for $ 1. I got the fries and my friend was torn between fries and macaroni salad. So he brought her a sample of both the Mac salad and the potato salad. The potato salad had bacon in it! Thus it was the clear winner. When the food came out he’d forgotten the avocado but we didn’t say anything. About two bites in he remembered, apologized, and gave it to us on the house! Even without it the burger was HUGE and delicious, with it… oh man. So good. This is a place that you must try if you’re ever in the mood for a GIANT and awesome burger. I hear the breakfast is great too, and it’s served all day.

SOOOOOOO good! Ed’s Diner has been a very welcome surprise. We weren’t sure what to expect when they took over the old Dairy Belle off Lafayette, but we decided to give them a shot since they are just down the street from us and we are soooo grateful we have. The staff is super nice and service is speedy and usually remember our drink order. The food is AMAZINGLY good. We usually get the avocado burger and it is so juicy and tasty. The chef/owner knows what he is doing. We have ventured into other items on the menu and have not been disappointed, but we usually come back to the Burgers… you can’t go wrong there. Most definitely RECOMMEND!

Great breakfast, great prices, friendly and down to earth service. The banana nut pancakes were absolutely delicious. They were fluffy, the batter had a lot of flavor, and they were huge! I got the combo which included two eggs and a choice of meat. I opted for the ham steak, which was smokey, salty, and hearty. The corned beef hash was home made with shards of corned beef and cubes of potato. It wasn’t mushy as if it were out of a can; It was cooked perfectly with a crunchy sear of crust on the top and bottom of the pile. My boyfriend complimented that the eggs«over hard» were actually cooked right, with the yolk still in tact, yet done all the way through. The service was attentive, and they made us feel special. It was cold and rainy out and they even put the space heater under our table. Our server was super cute and friendly. She was on it with the coffee refills and had perfect timing. This local diner reminds me a lot of the Diggery Inn in Oakland. It’s small, privately owned, and has great quality food and service. We’ll be back again.

I just went here today and the food really hit the spot. I ordered a hamburger with cheese and a chocolate shake. My fiancé ordered pancakes and a shake. The burger had fresh ingredients, it was messy, and barely fit in my mouth(just how a burger should be!) The bun was toasted(yum) and the fries were crispy(also yum). The shake was really good too! I didn’t try the pancakes but he said they tasted great. Nobody was in there. so service was awesome :). The décor isn’t very«diner» but the tables and chairs were newer. I’d come back again. I’d like to see if its busy on the weekends or not. Id pass up country inn or Bill’s for no wait time any day!

My wife and I have now gone to Ed’s Diner twice and are quite pleased to find a diner so close to home. Now, the first thing you have to remember is that this is a diner, not a a nice sit down place. Once you got this into your head, I think you’ll be quite pleased with what Ed’s has to offer. The portions are pretty huge, and the quality is pretty darn good. Well, I should say the breakfast is good, because that’s the only thing we have gone here for. Knowing how diners are, we always ask them to use less oil and butter, and they did exactly that. So, what have we had… –Hash browns are a winner, very crispy, and a good size portion –Banana nut pancakes, very tasty and fluffy, and again big –Omelet, was really good, and lots of filling in it –Pork chop, cooked really nicely –Eggs, I like mine over hard, and without popping the yolk, they did it perfectly –Bacon was crispy –Toast, bagel, english muffin… standard The workers and owners we found very friendly and attentive. Value is awesome, we get out of their for about $ 15-$ 17 including tip. We live between Ed’s and IHOP, and I’ll always choose Ed’s over Ihop, and the best thing, is there is no wait! I guess, my only complaint would be, it’s a little cold in there in the mornings, so, you might want to bring a jacket. Looking forward to trying lunch!

So I was getting gas at Rotten Robbie about a month ago… imagine rain, lots of it, a not so nice chill in the air, and I glance up and see that Dairy Belle is now Ed’s Diner. Grab the phone, get into my Unilocal app(I know, I am addicted), and type in Ed’s. Hmm… good burgers… good breakfast. So since then I keep trying to persuade my boyfriend to go here instead of somewhere else for breakfast. At last… and it was just okay. Here’s what we had: Diner 1: Joe’s Special(I seem to order this at a lot of places if they don’t have eggs benedict to test if it is a good joint) Diner 2: Steak and Eggs(he hardly ventures off this either). Oh, and a shake? Diner 3: Banana Pancakes I’d give my Joe’s Special 4 stars(slightly greasy, but we were at a diner). The potatoes were SUPER bland(I added a ton of hot sauce). Not sure how the Steak and Eggs went, but he loved the shake. Banana pancakes rocked. But, why wouldn’t they? So food alone is about a 3.5, but the service was awkward. Yah, I can’t say bad… it was just awkward. We were there about 10:30am and the girl there had a ton of eye makeup on, her shirt was splitting open with stains on it, and she seemed like she partied too hard the night before because she was outtaofit. I asked three times for cream for my coffee from her and this other guy who was our waiter. Shouldn’t this just come WITH your coffee? We may try again, but for dinner or lunch. Give it another shot. I’ll support the local guys, but maybe they need a shot of something or dayquil or something to get the show on the road.

A terrific greasy spoon diner!(And that’s a compliment!) My first experience at Ed’s was breakfast. Hearty portions of good food at a very reasonable price. My husband had sausage & eggs, pleasantly, the sausage was not the brown & serve kind. We returned a week or so later as a family for dinner & had a similar pleasant experience. One of the kids had ham & eggs w/home fries that looked DELICIOUS! This time hubby had country fried steak, a total«man meal» which they serve w/no veggies(you’d be kidding yourself, right?) All in all, good but not great, hearty food. The main reason we’ll go back? Terrific service! Friendly staff who can’t seem to do enough to make you happy. I LOVE a restaurant that actually seems to care that I’ve come to spend my money there!
