I’ve been here about 10 times. When they first opened it was great and they took American Express and the service was great. Then they decided not to take Amex, I’m okay with that but I do like my Amex card for dining out. The sushi chefs are good and attentive. The last couple times I have been the service was OK and the sushi was about the same.

Came here tonight with a large party of 11. Good service. We were quickly seated and served beverages. Orders came out correct and in a timely manner. All the food was the correct temperature and tasted delicious!

I give up. Tried calling to place an order on five different occasions but there was no answer.

We live walking distance. Service was OK although the young girls aren’t the most professional by any means. Sushi was good. Average. Spicy tuna isn’t like you find in other restaurants, it is very spicy. Because of the close proximity to our house we have tried ordering take out multiple times. It just rings and rings and we have yet to be able to order take out. When you are calling during business hours someone should be picking up the phone.

My husband and I have been coming here for over a year now and until recently, it’s been hit or miss. BUT, enter GIJOE and now this is definitely our spot! We like to eat and drink local, we can walk here from our house. Ever since Joe has started working here, our experience has been nothing but stellar! He knows what we order, before we even pick up a menu, and suggests other items that he knows that we would like. He’s always kind, funny and courteous. He treats everyone that sits at his bar like he’s known them for years. Thanks, Joe! You rock!!!

I almost missed this sushi place today and that would have been a big loss. It’s tucked away in the back corner behind CVS. It was 6 o’clock on a Saturday night and I couldn’t believe I was the only one enjoying Joe’s Special at the bar. I think they need to let people know they are there and invite them to come up to Copperhill and Seco for a yummy Sushi treat. Thank you sushi chef Joe and Tyler for the Special recommendation. I am glad I stopped in.

This place is a hidden secret! The atmosphere, the customer service, and above all the food is spectacular! I’m very picky when it comes to Japanese cuisine. I can’t stand it when you order beef or chicken and the beef is fatty and the chicken is the worst parts. Not at Kumashiki! The beef was lean and the chicken was perfect! We ordered the deluxe dinners, which are very reasonably priced and delicious, as well as an awesome Tropical Sushi Roll. WOW! Totally recommend it! It was topped with mango! It was unique and absolutely divine! If you haven’t been here, it’s a must!

My son and I enjoy going out for sushi and have been to a lot of different places in SCV. I always drive by here and think about trying it, so we finally did. I assumed incorrectly that it was teppan tables and sushi. The«grill» refers to grilled items such as steak and chicken, which is nice if you are with someone who doesn’t like sushi. It was a Tuesday night at 6pm and it was fairly empty. We were told to sit anywhere so we picked a table in the middle. We waited quite a while for the one waitress/hostess to come over and give us menus and take our drink order. There is no «kid’s menu» but the waitress said they could make a chicken or beef teriyaki bowl which comes with vegetables and tempura for my five year old daughter. When the waitress asked if we were ready, I told her, «This is our first time here» and she just said«Okay, I’ll give you some more time then», and disappeared again. I was hoping she would explain the menu and maybe offer some suggestions. Nope. We were left to figure it out on our own. There were some specials on a board behind the sushi bar but, I couldn’t see them from our table and the waitress never told us about them. We placed our order and the sushi was out pretty quickly and then … WOW. The food was outstanding. Best albacore and salmon sushi either of us have ever had ANYWHERE in SCV. The rolls were awesome. We had a shrimp tempura crunch roll, a spicy scallop with eel and avocado, and a Washington roll. It was all so delicious. The portions were quite large also. The price range is medium to high, but I felt it was worth it since you get more food. My daughters chicken bowl was pretty good. I think it was $ 6.75. We had to keep flagging the waitress down for drink refills, the check, boxes etc. Maybe it was because she was the only person there besides the sushi chefs… not sure. She was really nice and gave us a $ 5 discount for a promo they had going, which I wouldn’t even have known about. I think they just needed another person for the front. Definitely will return, but next time we will sit at the sushi bar so that we can get immediate attention.

Best sushi in town… been to the other ones, mr. Sushi, shogun,… we end up back at this place. Wait staff is nice ready to suggest new rolls. Can’t remember name of the specific roll but it’s got fried onions on it soon good.

The last time that we tried Kumashiki(about a year ago), we enjoyed great food but terrible service. We were there on Father’s Day(2015) for an early dinner and this time we had 5-star service The server was really attentive. We should have remembered her name so we could give her praise by name. The food was very good too. We’ll be back!

Creating this on the fly. Finished eating at 6:33… We were promised waters when we arrived: never came. We were promised ginger when our food was placed: never came. Our tea was never refilled even though we asked twice. After the food was dropped, we weren’t checked on again. There are two other tables occupied in addition to ours. The single hostess/server/busser has been busy all night with to-go orders… It is now 6:53; no sign of the check. Why they have one employee and one chef on a Sunday, I am unsure. Three stars for the food, atmosphere, and kindness when they do attend to you. It is hard to believe that they had the nerve to charge me full price after making waiting 25 minutes for the bill to arrive then never taking it from my table… I really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere – it is a shame I’ll never return. P.S: its really annoying to here the phone ring for eight minuets solid: staff up Kumashiki. **update I finally brought the bill to the front instead of waiting for the server to come to me… after a total of 37 minutes of waiting and they took off 15%. That garners an extra half star(at least they made a tiny effort). 3.5 overall. The manager said the employee never showed for work hence the delays in service. I’ll go back on a regularly staffed night. Having worked in the industry myself, I’m a sucker for the plight of the food service worker.

Came here for the first time on a Friday night. This place gets busy. The place is small but I didn’t feel enclosed like other sushi restaurants that I’ve been to. They have three big screen TVs to help pass the time. The food was good. The waitresses were pleasant. It just took a while to get our food and our checks. Other than that, it was a pleasurable experience. We will definitely come back, but maybe not on a Friday night?

The food was decent, I ordered one roll that was out of this world delicious and the 2nd one was just gross. My daughters beef teriyaki bowl was a TON of rice with a small very over cooked and over seasoned piece of beef. Service was a joke. For a restaurant that was as empty as they were at the time I went you would figure OUTSTANDING service. They brought my daughters food out and more than 10 minutes later they realized I never got my sushi and that they served it to the wrong table. No apology, no explanation. I had to ask them why it took so long… Then on top of that I expressed that I was unhappy with one of the rolls because the description was so far off, I would not have ordered it at all if the description matched what was served! They didn’t offer to take it back, and never offered an apology or discount for serving my sushi to the wrong table… That’s just bad customer service!

What an awkward place… The place was empty for dinner, but got a little busier halfway through. The rolls were okay. The atmosphere was just weird. The servers to the sushi chefs. Probably won’t ever go back again.

Pros: ~It’s local. ~Everything was tasty. ~There were two big screen TVs. ~Though we were charged for a large instead of a small sake, when we pointed it out to the waiter, he corrected the mistake without any fuss. ~The Sexy Roll(it’s fresh and yummy and comes with these two cute little cucumber sides the chef meticulously whittles down for you. only downside is it’s too big to eat in a single bite) Cons: ~It’s oddly situated in a corner behind two vacant retail spaces(as I walked to the front entrance, I had to wonder if the place was even open). ~Staff was friendly but could use to be more attentive(we had to ask for refills and the check). Overall Grade: B–

Decent sushi — large selection, sashimi tasted fresh, and had good uni, a bit on the pricey side as far as sushi & location is concerned, but would eat here again if in the area :)
