East Cliff Video

Humans are losing the battle against technology. I have Netflix and I rent movies from the Apple TV so I am just as guilty as the next person, truthfully. Serendipity led me here yesterday and I walked out w/​2 DVD movies: Bambi and Lady and the Tramp. The total for both came up to $ 18 something. Not bad for 2 Disney movies, eh?
The lady at the front was very nice but my verbal exchange w/​her was very brief. I did apologize to the store having to close. Thought it was my first visit there, it will probably be my last as well.
Had a movie marathon w/​Gavin that same evening. It took me almost 3hrs of total walking time (plus dinner) so after we got back, a nice cold shower and propping ourselves in front of the television screen seemed just too perfect.
Bambi was great. A classic.
Lady and the Tramp is scratched so towards the end after Lady came home from the pound, the movie just stopped. I was so disappointed and a bit angry because Gavin really liked it and we can’t even finish the movie. Must eBay it this week.
Blah.

I love this store. It’s been a local business for countless years and keeps prices at very affordable rates. Dollar days (Tuesday and Wednesday) are fabulous when I want to marathon a TV show or old movie trilogy. The staff are nice and very helpful. East Cliff video is a piece of Santa Cruz charm.

This is only from the owners dedication to his customers not the quality of selection or staff. he is a man who has too much on his plate and doesn’t give the customer service that i feel customers deserve. i’ve been trying to ask him a few questions about some games for over 2 months now and still no solid answer. just feel very disappointment and won’t be renting from this location any more.

East Cliff Video has a fabulous selection (classics, documentaries, new releases) and their staff is always friendly and accommodating (even when you start with the «what’s that one movie with that one guy that was in that other movie??» haha j/​k This is a great local business that I hope we don’t lose if that shopping center gets an updo. I have rented videos at this place for several years and the staff are wonderful, everyone there is always helpful and pleasant, especially Mario! he is the best.
The selection is incredible, special interest, foreign films, old movies, the new releases are easy to find, what is there to complain about. Open till 10 every day.
The only thing I would like more is if they served tea and coffee and had a place to sit and talk about the movies we watched.

I LOVE east cliff video! i have been coming here since i was small and i will continue to do so because of the staff and how helpful they are! The prices are very reasonable, and their late fee policy is AMAZING everytime i have late fees they always cut them in half if i am willing to pay them in full. their selection of movies are also quite reasonable for a small local video sore.
long story short if your a local, chances are your going to be more then satisfied with this business

Netflix has an Awesome alternative
Sometimes I want things now and don’t want to wait a couple days for Netflix to come. Like watching seasons of dexter. I get so amped and want the next disc ASAP. this is where east cliff video comes in.
A great selection, knowledgeable staff and a good late fee policy. Oh yeah they are cheap too!

Reasonable prices and a solid selection. That’s what it takes to get 3 – 4 stars. I give them the 5^th star because last timeI was there, I slapped Terminator on the counter for rental the employee told be I had a late fee for Darby O’Gill and the Little People.
So to the kind girl behind the desk who didn’t straight laugh in my face, the 5^th star is for you.

Now I am all about supporting local businesses. Especially in Santa Cruz. But I recently came here and the customer service was beyond horrible. First my friend and I were looking for a movie we couldn’t find, we asked one of the girls where the movie was and she couldn’t be bothered. Finally she got fed up with us and walked us over to where the movie was. Next we went to check out and the girl behind the counter ignored us completely. Uh, OK WTF. After she finished her conversation with the other girl she checked us out.
I want to continue to support local businesses but not with attitudes like this. I have been going to East Cliff video forever and for the first time I am thinking about going to blockbuster the next time I want to rent a movie. I am still keeping hope that East Cliff will redeem themselves.

They have now moved to a new location in the east cliff shopping center (where the cute little farmers market is held on sundays). I have not been in yet, just wanted to let you know.

It may be tiny, but this place is the best! Good selection, lots of new releases, cheap previously viewed DVDs, & I love the $ 1 «employee picks» wall. They always have something hilarious playing on the TV, too.
The employees are usually polite and helpful, but I did get a REALLY bad recommendation from one of them once. Other than that, it’s a great little place. ;)
I’ve *heard* that they have a pretty good selection of porn, but of course I’d know nothing about that…
