I have a ’06 Prius and John Rood quoted me $ 65 for the smog and certificate. When I drove over, there were tons of cars all over the place (it was difficult to pull into the parking lot) and the guys weren’t too eager to help me or even acknowledge I was standing there. OK, maybe I caught them at a busy time. I drove to Holiday Smog. They charged $ 50 for a Prius (same as regular smog check, even though they need special test equipment). I was in and out, and the guys at the desk were friendly.

So fast, helpful, and FUN! These people are a hoot, and if you’re going to hang out in any shop for a first come, first served service, it should be theirs. They noticed a minor issue and gave me advice on how to fix it cheaply. A great family owned and run businesses that will get you back on the road and going about YOUR business in no time, hassle free. Thanks guys!!!

Very happy with my Smog check experience here! It’s a «pass or don’t pay» shop, which is always nice if you aren’t 100% sure if your car will pass or not. My dad’s been coming here for years with all the family cars and I figured I should start doing the same. The guys are really nice and work quickly and efficiently.
Reasonably priced.
Very easy to find. Just down 17th Street from the 17th and Capitola Road intersection.
I recommend getting there first thing in the morning at 9am.

The name should be spelled RUDE. The woman who answered the phone couldn’t have cared less whether I came in or not. No appts & no hints as to when to come in to avoid waiting around for an hour or more.

So glad my buddy told me about this place! Went to Santa Cruz tires for smog and they failed me because I didn’t have a heat shield for my exhaust manifold! What’s stupid is they didn’t tell me till the whole smog was done! John Roods told me it hardly mattered and they should have told me from the beginning before they even started! John Roods knows there shit and I love that if you don’t pass then you don’t pay! Thanks to John Roods, my Bat Truck is ready to hit the road! Watch out Santa Cruz!!!

My older Honda took a few times before it passed the smog test. John and his team were great to work with and made the entire ordeal quite bearable. I could have gotten the job done at less cost, but there are so many dishonest shops – I trusted John.

5* review and my car didn’t pass… twice?
Yep!
These guys are laid back, no BS, and don’t have a problem telling you to kick rocks (only if you deserve it). I went twice, first time they said i needed a new cat and to change out the intake system in the car. Second time I found out Im missing my air injection. The tech was pleasant, I shook his hand and thanked him for his time. Ill be back with a fixed car to get it passed here.
Dont bother calling, just show up. They run on a first come first served. For a no pass no pay these guys are awesome.

I will always be a John Rood Customer! After going to Holiday Smog and had a failed smog test, went to John not 12 hours later and it passed! I called Mark at Holiday Smog today and asked for a refund because it passed somewhere else & he said I don’t know what John did to make it pass but a refund is NOT gonna happen. I said ok hung up and called the Better Business Bureau, hopefully they can fix this problem because Mark at Holiday Smog CANNOT!!!

It ran even better after I left.
