Growing up here in SC i always heard how shady and screwed this place was but i needed to get some work done and why not go local? If you want to take your vehicle to a over priced shop go right ahead. I’m sure the quality of work might be there but save yourself the time and the energy. Dave the gentleman who works up front I’m sorry doesn’t know his right hand from his left hand and after making a appointment 2 weeks out for a simple amp install and hook up I was told it would be a all day thing. Granted I had all the wires and everything else connected just need my amp for my subs installed. Was told that my appointment was at 8am I showed up at 9am (Single dad) best I could do. Explained to Dave what I wanted and how I need my amp to be hooked up not bolted down. His response it’s our policy to bolt all amps down… no sir it is not your policy you just want to make more money so you can charge me for more labor. After explaining to Dave what I wanted again was told I showed up a hr late for my appointment and that it would be done by the end of the day if not the next. Mind blown because i think this is a joke. I worked at audio shop 5 years I know what it takes to do a amp install I just can’t because I’m watching my daughter full time. I explained to him that I couldn’t leave my vehicle all day and that I needed it before the end of the day because I have my daughter. Nope he was dead serious. After making one phone call to a shop in SJ not only was I going to get a better deal I got my amp installed within the same day and didn’t get charged 100+ dollars for it. I will never be back and will tell everyone to stay away. Especially with those high prices and those shitty attitudes.

I brought my Honda accord to Lotts yesterday to have new speakers installed I didn’t really know what I needed I just wanted better sound. Shawn helped me he was just great –no hard sales pitches just good information while keeping in mind that I I did not want to spend a lot. The service was great and the prices were good and the installation was fast and efficient. I highly recommend this place and it’s nice to support a local small business. Now I know why they have been there for so long! Thanks Lotts. Heh, there’s a pun there!

I just had my truck worked on here and I am so incredibly happy with how everything turned out. Tim was super helpful and made sure I was happy with the install on every level. They got me in and out in no time with professional work. I would highly recommend this shop for car audio needs. Thanks again Tim!

Very helpful, friendly, skilled and happy workers. I paid 300 to install a stereo I got for Christmas. I have no idea how that compares to other places but it was a perfect job and they back up their work and parts so– yeah!

Dedicated to customer service. These folks are clean, professional, courteous and really helpful. Products were available on schedule, installed in the time frame promised, and everything worked as it should.

Dave was terrific. Service was excellent. They found the perfect solution to my problem. Installed it as spec’ed and on time. Couldn’t ask for anything more.

I bought my sound system from Lotts for my car and then ended up moving to Wisconsin. Somehow, at no fault of Lotts my battery was being drained due to a part failure that the part manufacturer identified. Long story short, Tim at Lotts helped me through the entire process. Originally I went to a Pioneer dealer in Milwaukee, WI to have it fixed. The Milwaukee dealer blamed everyone but themselves and had my car four times to fix it. Tim was able to identify where the problems were over the phone just by me telling him what was happening. He then found me a new stereo shop that knew what they were doing and closer to my home in Wisconsin. He continued to follow up with the new stereo shop and my car is now fixed.
Best customer service I have ever had. Truly great staff that care about your vehicle and your happiness with the product.

Lotts is the best auto place ever! Two years ago, they installed a radio in my 4runner and last week, it stopped working. I called and asked if I could come by and have it looked at. I spoke to Shawn over the phone and he told me to come by that day and they would look at my radio. Later that day I stopped by and it took about 5 minutes for them to figure out I had a blown fuse! Shawn fixed it and my radio works perfectly now! My radio brings so much joy to my car rides, Lotts is my life saver, I highly recommend them for any radio needs! :)

We suspected that a short in our Honda’s radio/​CD was blowing fuses. Tim quoted us a good deal on a replacement radio at ¹⁄₁₀ the price of a replacement Honda radio. When they went to put it in, they discovered CHANGE in the radio/​CD player. The original owner’s kids had used the CD player as a piggy bank I guess. The change was causing a short. They informed me that they could still sell me a new unit, or fix the Honda radio. So, first, they found the problem when the Honda dealer couldn’t, and they saved me money by NOT selling me a new radio. How’s that for great integrity? Lotts made a customer for life.

I went to Lott’s three separate times to purchase car stereo equipment and was very pleased each time! Everyone is very helpful and friendly! Tim is very knowledgable and professional! I will continue to come back for all my car stereo needs!

YES YES YES!!! I had my new baby all of 1 night and was like «so I miss the back up cam, and all the other things I swear I didn’t need when I begged for an SUV» Luckily honey was already expecting this melt down and we headed to Lotts. Tim helped us find the perfect stereo for my car with the back up cam set up I was hoping for. The best part was he stayed in my budget and still got me everything on my wish list. Cut to a few days later when we picked up my car. I couldn’t be happier! The install looks great, and more importantly sounds good. Sean was also amazing at explaining all the little things my new system does and was super patient when I was like huh? (Blonde after all people!) Over all the only bummer was that the technology for the 2016s have changed so it will be few months before the guys can get the steering wheel controls working, but I have know doubt they will take excellent care of me when the time comes. This local business is one of the good ones!!!

Today my car alarm wouldn’t stop going off and my car wouldn’t even start. Eventually, I had to disconnect the negative battery terminal. I was referred to Lotts because of their excellent work. In less than a minute, Ron was able to fix my alarm and started my car right up in the parking lot. He showed me that my car had a secondary aftermarket alarm system on it, to which I did not have the key fob. He reprogrammed both alarm systems into a single fob on the spot for me.
They are truly professionals and extremely courteous. I would highly recommend this place to anybody with electrical issues in their vehicles. Will definitely be coming back here in the near future for an upgrade to my car’s sound system.

Lott’s is a truly professional audio installer here in Santa Cruz. They use quality components from trusted manufacturers and simply put, you wont’ find any garbage or budget equipment at Lott’s. I walked in and was served promptly and the crew at Lott’s was able to install a new Kenwood head unit with the dash kit and do all the wiring, along with removal of an old XM satellite kit, within about an hours time. All said, I am very happy with the price I paid and the quality of components used. When completed, the brought me my keys and paperwork in a nice envelope with the remote and asked if I’d like a demo on how the radio works, which I politely declined, but appreciated. I will be coming back for them to replace my stock speakers in two weeks time.
Don’t come here if you want cheap crap or don’t know the value of quality work/​installation. I paid a few bucks more for the labor at Lotts than other places would charge, but for maybe a $ 10-​$ 20 higher labor cost, I get professional quality installation. When you’re done, they give you an envelope with the manual and remotes in them, very nice touch. They also saved my old equipment nicely and didn’t trash it.
Dave, the owner, was really laid back and got me the best valued head unit in my price range after hearing what my needs are.

My convertible top got slashed open, Dave was very helpful, called the insurance company and took care of everything for me. He finished the two day job in just one, and called me with updates (when they got approval from my insurance, when they ordered the part, when the part got in and progress during the repair), answered all my questions and even fixed a little thing on the convertible top mechanism free of charge. The top looks really good, so thank you Dave! I really appreciate all the good work you did.

Not a long review but complimentary.
I wanted to upgrade the head unit and speakers for my «antique» Xterra and had initially written to Lotts earlier int the morning. A prompt reply from Tim, and I thought about writing again, but being that I’m in Capitola I thought I’ll just drive there.
Tim showed me an option, said it could be done within three hours and so i said lets go. Sat quietly in the back of the showroom being sent off to sleep with some Bob Marley tun age and within two hours it was all done.
No fuss, tidy work and the sound in the Xterra is perfect.
Now I need to find out if they’ll fix my sunroof on my nearly immaculate 1988 CRX Si!
I’ll be back should I ever need anything. It’s good to shop locally and support good solid local businesses…

I went to others in town and they no had any idea how to integrate SiriusXM into my new Honda CRV’s existing base trim LX factory radio system (The system has no nav but has a small lcd with back up camera and radio/​car stats), and I didn’t want an external portable unit.
Kudos to Tim and Dave for immediately having the obscure aftermarket solution at their fingertips. They even had the part in stock!
Tim offered me same day service even though the shop looked packed, but I opted for the next day because I could still get my radio installed for my upcoming trip in my new Honda.
The job was done in the exact time frame promised, two hours. I was able to enjoy the convenient downtown location to stroll Pacific ave and eclectic downtown Santa Cruz while they performed the installation.
These guys have the muscle memory, customer service skills, and pedigree that makes doing business with this locally owned business, in a word, priceless!

Wow, I am impressed. I had asked several people I know about where to go and checked reviews. Based on all my research, I decided to give them a try.
Had them install an upgraded alarm to replace the now defunct factory one and I’m extremely pleased with Dave and his whole staff. They’re very knowledgeable and friendly.
I have seen many other automotive stereo shops come and go in Santa Cruz over the decades, but these guys are still going strong. Now I know why.
I returned twice to have them make a couple of modifications to the alarm system to better suit me, as well as adjust a sensor to minimize any false alerts.
Each time they finished right when they said they would, or earlier. When I asked about the cost for doing all this, I was told «they just want to make sure I’m happy».
Now that’s good old fashioned customer service.
I now have and will continue to refer others to Lott’s. I also understand their upholstery department is top notch as well. So I will give that a try when needed.
