Lupolo’s is a great place in Santa Cruz to grab a beer with friends loved ones. The spot is near downtown and provides a cool vibe with affordable prices. The wide selection of delicious beer on tap and food helps me appreciate my sucesses as it is my favorite place to celebrate. The spot seems to cater to the older white folks of Santa Cruz, still my favorite bar though. Great place if you are trying to enjoy great beer without being fully surrounded by UCSC students. If you ever are unsure of what to order make sure to ask the folks at the cashier as selection is always changing but they are always super kind and knowledgable. I’ve gone and simply explained my mood and was given a sample of a beer and loved what they selected! Communal sitting is widley available through the newly renoved three rooms of the bar. The back room has a shuffle board, and its a great place to conversate. The rooms are aligned with windows that allow you to watch the streets of downtown santa cruz. If you want to try a cheese board for the first time I really recommend you try it here!

I’m not a huge fan of all of the bars located near this part of downtown — a lot seem a little too run down or sad-looking, if I’m being frank. The boy and I headed to Lúpulo with high hopes on a Sunday afternoon, and had an awesome time! THEHIGHLIGHTS. — Absolutely massive beer selection(whether it be on tap or in the many, many bottles they have for sale in the back; only downside is you pay a corkage fee) — Ample seating despite having a constant busy rush on weekends — Very chill, hipster-y environment(but I like it) I will definitely be back the next time I head to Santa Cruz — very cool place with great beers!

Great glasses, I really wish I bought one(not sure if they are for sale) It was pretty loud but a cool place and delicious beer, loved sitting by the open window! Definitely family and friend friendly.

Service is excellent – Christopher deserves special mention. Beer is excellent. But why no trivia night on the first Monday of the month? Seriously bummed!

So I didn’t understand what all the reviews meant when they said this place is a «hipster,» but then I walked in and it all makes sense now. Hipster hangout confirmed. Lots of different rooms for whatever group you want to mingle with… shuffle board in the back! Their beers are fun and tasty — I liked the Stay At Home Dad and the Cowboy the best. Their chocolate one is deep.

Love it, the shuffle board is wonderful, the beer is great… the music juke box in the back is outrageously expensive and either needs to go and just have house music playing. Very nice atmosphere.

We had a surprisingly rude experience with one of the bartenders/waiters. It was ~55 degrees outside and 60 – 65 degrees inside the pub. Pub was half empty on Sunday evening. Bartender comes and opens the window. 55 degree wind comes in. At least 8 people at multiple tables talk about being cold. All wearing sweaters and jackets and still cold. We close the window. Bartender comes back later and asks if we closed it. We say«Yes because we were cold.» Bartender snaps at us in a pissed-off tone«Don’t close that window» like you would talk to kindergarteners, and marches away without another word. We were all kind of «WTF» and shocked by his rudeness. We were quiet and tidy and had just finished a bunch of food and drinks. Then another couple comes and sits down by us. First thing they do is close the window! We told her he forbid us to do that and she doesn’t care because it’s cold. Bartender comes back and says he wants the window opened because he’s «running around» and getting hot. Dude is wearing big knit beanie as a fashion statement by the way. And he was a small guy, not the big dude who works there. When we heard THAT was his reason for barking at us about the window, we got offended. Half of us work in healthcare where you are on your feet. 1 of us is a farm worker. My own workplace is usually over 80 degrees because I do elder care and elderly are comfy at that temperature. NONE of us would ever snap at anyone in our work place just because we were running around and hot. He has the whole room sit in 55 degree wind because he was getting hot in his beanie and didn’t want to take it off? He also had on a long sleeve button down shirt. But the real problem is how rude he was. If he had just explained how he was feeling it wouldn’t have been so bad. But to bark orders at us and march off was very obnoxious. It seemed like he felt our presence was an inconvenience in his life. It made us wonder: did he think it was cool to talk down to us because we were all women? Would he have sniped like that at a group of all men?

My favorite spot in Downtown Santa Cruz. Love the staff, the beer selection is always on point. The empanadas are my favorite. The new expansion is beautiful and gives so much more space. Back game room is awesome, and the T. V’s ain’t to shabby. Doing such great things out there! Cheers

Pluses: great selection of craft beers. Small plates were outstanding! Our group tried all of the salads, all thumbs up. Empanadas, tacos, eggplant dishes were excellent. Minuses: chicken veg soup had no flavor. Server dropped some of the bread from the eggplant in the floor. We asked for some to replace, turns out they charged us for it. Not huge, but not really cool either. That said We lived the food and beer, and would recommend.

Fabulous beer selection, tap or bottle. Great food and reasonable prices. Try the Verde sandwich and the side of pickles. Good atmosphere too and a cooler full of bottles to go as well. Oh, don’t forget the anchovies! Nice folks. Wish you were here!

While passing through Santa Cruz my lovey needed a break. What a better break than some beer??? They had a wonderful selection of beers. We tried several of them and really found some new ones we had never tried before. The food was okay, very fried, standard bar fare, but I am very picky with my food since I live in San Francisco and we have such a wonderful selection. When we arrived we were only the second table in the place but soon after the place started to get crowded. I could see hanging here if we lived in Santa Cruz. They also had shuffle board in the back, which is always a favorite of mine.

I’m not much of a beer drinker so I probably couldn’t appreciate this as much as your average craft beer connoisseur! From what I did indulge in, I really liked this spot! We came here for some quick appetizers and a few brews — the bartender is super knowledgeable and let our party have a few tastes to make sure they were satisfied with their drinks! We ordered a few tapas: the pickled vegetables(I’d pass, the pickling is more sweet than vinaigrette), a mushroom bruschetta, a meat version of the tortilla espanola, and the vegetarian tortilla espanola, which I found absolutely delicious! Cool spot, open great seating, very laid back lax spot! Will definitely be back!

I’d call this the new«it» spot in Santa Cruz. A true hipster mecca. Lupulo rotates their beers on a daily basis. What? It’s true. I tried an horchata milk stout beer. Really good. Doesn’t taste like a traditional mexican horchata, but it had that cinnamon hint to it. The place is small. You possibly will be standing? Check it out and get a taste in.

Really cute place. Small inside, but the staff is really helpful and friendly. They do a good business though, so finding a table is definitely luck. They had a really interesting selection of beer. Reasonably priced, too. Originally, we’d planned on eating here as well, but they had a special quail menu thing going on and the plates were teeeensy for the prices, so we opted to eat elsewhere.

I like this place. The vibe is mellow and there is a great beer selection. They have a refrigerator in the back with a bunch of unique beers that you can go for if what they have on tap isn’t interesting. I didn’t get a chance to sample any of the tapas, as the kitchen had closed for the night, but the selections seem to pair well with the drinks.

I really wanted to like Lupulo Craft Beer House but in the end the experience was only so-so. The concept is awesome. Local craft beers that are very unique on tap. I think the main issue for me is that it’s very catered towards a Hoppy-loving audience but really doesn’t offer many options for beer for those of us who aren’t hop-crazy. The part I was most disappointed by was that I ordered a Stout(one that didn’t have any mention of hops or bitterness in the description; it was supposed to be a post-dessert beer) and it STILL was incredibly hoppy. I felt misled by the menu description, and because the place was so busy, the people who worked there weren’t being particularly helpful. The one positive in the experience was the empanadas. Those were pretty darn good!
