I’m a fan of Moreno and I love their tacos(since I can’t have gluten) but their SALSA is amazing! I would order 3 tacos just so I could use more Salsa. It’s addicting.

I get the vegetarian burrito and it is my favorite burrito in town! This place only has burritos, tacos, and quesadillas and no rice. In the beginning, I thought the lack of rice was a bad thing. Now I don’t miss it at all! Their vegetarian burrito is the perfect ratio of pinto beans, melted jack cheese, cabbage, salsa, cilantro, and onion. Love everything about it! If you like burritos, and especially if you’re a vegetarian, try this place, you won’t be disappointed.

I just finished eating there and i couldn’t wait to get out of there! The food was not authentic at all! If you dont have orchata to drink then your not a legitimate mexican restaurant!

Salsa from Tacos Morenos will blow your mind with awesomeness. I usually get their carne asada burrito with a side of chips and smother the burrito in salsa. It’s my favorite Mexican place in Santa Cruz and I grew up here. If you want Mexican go here it won’t disappoint!

I’ve been coming here since I was 5 and it is still my all time favorite Mexican place. And it’s not just nostalgia(although I still don’t order chips or supreme burritos since they weren’t on the original menu). This style is something you can’t find anywhere else. It’s unique, flavorful, and no frills. You sit at a table with a total stranger and you like it. The hot sauce is a big part of the experience. Drown your burrito in it and go ham.

Amazing. Tacos are the best and super filling — pinto beans, your choice of meat, salsa, cabbage = yum. Chips and salsa are solid too. Reminds me of Dona Maria over in the Silicon Valley.

My favorite tacos in Santa Cruz hands down. No comparison. The beans are whole, the ingredients are real. I withheld a star because I’m a diva and I’d like a fancy diva restroom everywhere I go.

Having just moved from Ben Lomond to Seabright, I was on the hunt for a new place where I can happily pick up tacos to gorge on at home. Normally, I’d stop at Taqueria Vallarta, but the other locations don’t add up to the one in Felton. My friend, a Santa Cruz native, said Taco Moreno was the place to be… and by god she was right. One Lengua taco and two carne asada tacos later, I am hooked. The amazing tortillas, the fresh and flavorful salsa… the only thing I had an issue with, was I should’ve ordered all lengua. So good. Nothing better than a taco feast after a long work week.

Still delicious, and I haven’t been there in almost 20 years! Delicious veggie burrito, tender tortillas, and friendly, smiling service.

Reasonably priced and friendly, quick service despite the large number of patrons. My girlfriend has been coming here for years and swears by the place, so when we finally had the chance to hang out together in Santa Cruz, we had to stop by. She ordered the vegetarian burrito and I opted for the carne asada quesadilla, both were stellar. Also the pinto beans are made fresh, and the salsa is addictively delicious. High recommended.

Chips are Excellent, Tacos Awesome, quesadilla good but had a strange pizza sauce taste. Overall great food.

Really good tacos at this place, as evidenced by the line out the door. I was surprised that the beans have no flavor at all, even tho they seem to be daily cooked fresh. Atmosphere is meh. Service is the same.

What kind of Mexican restaurant doesn’t have rice. I tell you what one… This place.

K… nostalgia’s worn off. This honestly wouldn’t be my first choice for a burrito(try Los Pericos) but it still brings back memories from when this was on campus. The food isn’t that tasty, it’s greasy, and they ran out of chips both times I’ve gone sooo…

Best tacos outside of San Jose. The al pastor is my favorite. Very tasty, I have neglected coming here, but now I want to come back often. It was my after surf go to and even if I don’t go to the beach I’m going to want those delicious tacos. Cash only baby!

We read about this place in this month’s Sunset Magazine. The food is really great and comes out fast. What Sunset neglected to report was the fact that it is one of many places in Santa Cruz where you can be treated poorly by the person waiting on you while irritating the locals behind you in line. If Unilocal ever figures out how to have separate ratings for food and service, Tacos Moreno would achieve the ultimate rating dichotomy. Go at your own risk if you love really good Mexican.

Oh man, the Unilocal community really let me down on this one. I came here based on the high volume of 5 star reviews and the promise of some really good pastor meat but Tacos Moreno did not live up to the hype. When we arrived, we noticed that the place is really small and accepted cash only. Not a big deal, a lot of Taquerias we have been to are. However, the cashier was quite unfriendly. No smiles and one word answers — did we piss you off when we walked in and decided to give you our business? Then we found a table but it was dirty(someone just left) so we asked her to wipe it down. She did… but didn’t look happy to do it. Talk about making us feel unwelcome. We went to order and were surprised that they had no aguas frescas or rice. Interesting since rice is a Mexican food staple, but okay. I ordered the Supreme Burrito de Pastor. The burrito was a good size for a meal, but I have had bigger burritos for the same price. Also, because the burrito had more room for filling there was a lot of excess tortilla. I felt like the burrito was ½ tortilla. The pastor meat was OK, but not the best. I don’t really get the hype about it. Maybe it was just a style I haven’t had before? I’m not sure but it was pretty dry which is unusual in my experience with pastor. My son got the cheese quesadilla. It was grilled a little too much and had a lot of char. He’s not really a fan of charred tortilla(I know some are) but he was more upset when he found that the outer 1″ of his quesadilla had no cheese at all. I know it sounds silly, but whenever we get quesadillas they have a ton of cheese all the way to the edge. Needless to say, we do not plan on coming back to Tacos Moreno. My favorite part about this restaurant is that they recycle, but that’s just not enough. Sorry guys.

Quite possibly the best supreme burritos we’ve ever had! Filled with your choice of deliciously seasoned meat, fresh cooked beans, cabbage, onion, cilantro, tomato, and salsa, these huge burritos satisfy the craving for authentic Mexican food. Their salsa is amazing as well, so don’t forget to try it! One more thing, this place gives new meaning to fast food. They’re pumping out the goodness quickly!

If you always love the hole-in-the-wall restaurant recommendations from Lonely Planet, this is the place for you. Fill your gullet and your gut for a few bucks. The burritos are great, but not necessarily anything to write home about. Still there’s something about a cheap, hearty, tasty meal at a communal table in a tiny dive in California. Just go.

First time and it was a treat. CA$H only though, fyi. Closest thing to real tacos I have had in the Bay area.
