My husband and I booked a long weekend at the Antigua Inn at the beginning of August, and it was such a great experience I don’t even know where to start. The Inn itself is absolutely gorgeous. You will recognize as soon as you walk in that this isn’t your typical bed & breakfast with old linens and mis-matched furniture. The attention to detail and the use of high-quality materials(think hand-carved wooden tables, custom-made kitchen cabinets, and viking range stovetop) make a huge impact as soon as you walk in. Then in your rooms you’ll find unique art, gorgeous tiled showers, large wooden hutches and hammered copper sinks. Plus a bed that feels like you are sleeping on a cloud. I’m not the greatest sleeper in the best of conditions, but I got a solid, uninterrupted 8+ hours of sleep every night in that bed! Next up: the service! Laine and Maria are two of the kindest, most generous people I’ve ever met. My husband and I enjoyed talking to them about the history of Santa Fe, restaurant and gallery recommendations, and even things to do outside of town/off the beaten path. Laine has lived in Santa Fe for about 25 years and knows everything about the history and rituals. She also knew a lot about the local neighborhoods, building regulations, and land laws. If you’re interested in buying or building a place in the area, she is a great person to consult beforehand. In addition to their knowledge of the area and general hospitality, these gals serve a mean breakfast! Breakfast often consisted of three courses: a beautiful fruit plate, mini muffins with honey, and then the main. We had blue corn piñón pancakes(once with blueberries and once with banana because it was so good the first time we had to have it again), and we had you-call-it omelettes another morning, which I hate to admit were so much better than what I make at home. We had our choice of organic meats with every breakfast and it was so much food we’d stay full until dinner. If we were hungry between breakfast and dinner they graciously provided complimentary snacks, both in our room and on the counter in the kitchen. I love that they served products that I would have at home(organic, local when available, and healthy). Lastly, they have a reverse osmosis water system that makes their locally roasted Antigua Coffee taste like heaven, and it’s great for filling up water bottles to take while you wander the streets of historic Santa Fe(just 2 blocks away from the hotel). We stayed in the Tapestry Room and I’ll post some photos of the room along with a few other highlights!

Is doesn’t get better than this. Our room was spacious and beautifully appointed and the bed was the best I have slept in in a long time. It is obvious that the owner is an artist. Every detail of the inn is a labor of love, down to the hand made copper refrigerator doors. Now, the breakfast: every morning was a different choice of menu. We enjoyed three courses: elegant fruit plate; homemade gluten free muffins and eggs or pancakes and one morning an incredible bread pudding. All food is gluten free and gourmet(If you think gluten free is boring, you are wrong). We had a choice of three juices, different choices each day. Fortunately we spent four nights so we could sample the variety. They even serve the best coffee I have ever tasted which is their own Antigua Coffee Company(you can buy it there or online). Laine and Maria are fun, so interesting, personable and attend to your every need making you feel you are at home.

This is a true gem in Santa Fe’s world of hospitality. There is so much to like here that it is very difficult to describe in a nutshell. The location is ideal, just 3 blocks from the Palace of the Governors, the center of old Santa Fe, yet it’s sufficiently away from that area to practically eliminate road noise and produce a quiet, restful sleep. The inn is an adobe brick structure built before 1910. The interior walls are plaster, covered with rubbed beeswax, resulting in a very interesting, very smooth surface. Part of the original adobe construction in on display, behind glass. All doors are hand-carved in the motif fitting that particular room. Rooms contain unique, hand-carved furniture. Orchids are everywhere. April, Elida, and Laine go out of their way to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Cookies and various –ades(lemon/lime) are available in the kitchen area. Gourmet candies, various nuts, and a small, upscale assortment of bottled water and soft drinks await you in your room. Rooms have 3DHDTV, DVR, Blu-Ray players, and several internet apps. Breakfast is wonderful. My Huevos Rancheros was the best I’ve ever had. Thank you, Elida! Coffee was very rich and flavorful, and not at all bitter. Fruit offered was at the peak of ripeness. This inn is great for so many reasons, including touring the city, taking a 2nd honeymoon, or just pampering yourself for a weekend. We hope to be in Santa Fe again soon, and when that happens, we will beyond a doubt book our room here again.
