We enjoy staying at Hotel Chimayo de Santa Fe, but our food at the restaurant was disappointing. The red enchilada sauce must have been poured from a can, and the trout was drenched in a tasteless sauce. There are many choices for dinner in Santa Fe, and we will not return. The chef strolled around the dining room the entire time.

Quiet, intimate and lovely! Located on the second floor of the beautiful historic Hotel Chimayo. Staff was knowledgeable, attentive and friendly. Great wine selection. Locally sourced and farmers market fresh! Start with the Chili Relleno — the sauce is so yummy you’ll want to lick the plate. I ordered the quail as recommended by my server. It was melt in your mouth tender and delicious. Finish off with the perfect organic goats milk Carmel flan. Love this place, especially on a cold rainy night. Warm, inviting, and you will not be disappointed.

Great ambiance. Amazing food. The head chef at this restaurant appears wholly educated, personable, and deserving of thorough respect. The waiter didn’t really know the more esoteric details of culinary etiquette, though. Regardless, try the tres leches.

This is by far the most disrespectful restaurant I have ever been to. Our party was ignored and were double charged for food that had already been paid for. The waiter belittled us when we tried to explain to him the situation. One dish didn’t make it out until after everyone had eaten. Never eat here.

Really nice place just off the Plaza. Had lunch on a Saturday in March and it was a delicious way to end our short visit in Santa Fe. Attentive, friendly service. Both the specialty enchiladas and the marinated stead were very good.

Wandered in here one night looking for a light healthy meal without spending as much as we had been in the plaza. This was definitely the spot. The room is casual and cozy. The menu has a great lineup of healthy food. The prices are exactly what you want them to be — we shared appetizers and deserts, enjoyed entrees & two glasses of wine for about a hundred bucks — which in this neighborhood is a great price. We had the good fortune of sitting at the bar and were served by Estevan himself who shared some great stories & friendly company. Best of luck Estevan with the new restaurant :)

A very warm, inviting dining room. I started with the red cabbage salad, warm and dressed with bacon and roquefort, and it was terrific. I had a very nice trout, and my wife said her steak was perfect! Nice wine list, good service. We will be back.

Delicious, fresh, thoughtful food. The salmon special was cooked to perfection and the tres leches cake was to die for. A little bit on the expensive side, but if you want to treat yourself this is the place to do it.

Chef Estevan is a magician in his recipes and food quality. He has been Santa fe’s favorite southwestern chef for more than a decade. Try the chile rellenos, posole stew, and farmers market fresh salads.

This is an amazing restaurant for both local New Mexican food and fine dining. Try the green chile cheeseburger. It’s definitely the best I’ve had in New Mexico. The red chile enchiladas with Chimayo Chile are amazing. They taste like they came straight out of my grandmothers kitchen. The fine dining experience in the evening for dinner is fabulous. The ribeye is tasty and delicious. They will also be serving a special Prix Fixe menu for Thanksgiving 2015. I can’t wait to try the herb roasted organic free-range turkey that is being advertised on their website. Yummy! I love that all the ingredients are organic and farmers market fresh… that’s an added bonus.

The place is filled with the locals whom followed the chef from his previous location to this place. Chef Estavan Garcia is passionate about his food & it shows! His salsa, red chili sauce & green chili sauce have so much dimension & flavors that I can drink it like soup! He also serves fresh vegetable that he gets from the farmers market in the plaza, using organic ingredients when possible. The meat & fish was top quality. The chef was trained as a French chef but really excels with the local New Mexico food that he grew up with. It’s great how he spend time going to various tables and to share his passion & I hope that he’ll never retire. He really put his heart & soul into the place & it gives him great joy! We talked candidly about other restaurants in the area, & I know that he’s a honest guy when he gives other restaurants great reviews when it’s appropriate. It’s a wonderful place for people who appreciate honest ingredients & tender care with food preparation.

Big disappointment. My family and I loved Café San Estevan back in the day, and always went there for special occasions so we were excited to try Estevan for a special dinner before my brother’s wedding. The food was mediocre at best, the wine was awful, the ambiance felt cheap. And then as we were finishing our wine after dinner they kicked us out. They turned the lights above us on very brightly and when we got up our waiter said loudly«well that worked!» We had just paid over 300 dollars and were finishing our bottle of overpriced terrible wine, and they rudely kicked us out. We will not be back.

We met«The Chef» himself, Estevan. He told us very curtly and rather rudely that we could not sit down and that the restaurant was closed. We told him that two of his staff invited us to sit down and have a late lunch, but if he did not want us we would leave.(He apologized immediately, and reiterated that apology later… but it was embarrassing and hurtful nonetheless. One can only imagine how he treats his employees.) Since the staff had welcomed us so nicely, we stayed. The service we received from one of the young men was excellent. The food was pretty good. We both had the Lamb Stew. It seems rather under seasoned to both of us. We both had salads. The salads were fresh. While we ate, a group of 4 adults looked around the restaurant, and left without sitting down.

O. M. G. — special not on the menu was duck confit… did I already say O.M.G. Soooooo good. EVERYTHING prepared 5 star. Also had ribeye. Also done to perfection. Off the square and quiet. Roof top patio magnifique! Service outstanding. If you get to be served by Jimmy The Carrot you’re in for a show with your meal. These two folks had dinner on our our 34th anniversary and it made our date! Go see why we gave it 5 stars.(Worth 10 stars!). Really, go tonight!!!

Our server, AKA Jimmy the Carrot, is fantastic. I would have expected this caliber of food and service to be twice the price. We started with the smoked salmon appetizer which came with capers, sour cream, red onions and cute little toast squares. The weather was great and we were on the deck which was perfect when we were there. I had the lamb shank. it came with beets, carrots, garlic mashed potatoes, and a generous ladle of brown gravy. My wive had trout which was good, but I had lamb shank! We splurged and got desert: organic goat milk flan, wow! Great service, nice atmosphere, delicious food…

The food was kinda blah. It didn’t stand out to us at all during our visit here, especially compared to other restaurants where we’ve eaten. Most of all… the reason I’m giving 1 star as opposed to 3 is about the service. The service was horrible! :(we asked if we could get salsa with the chips and guacamole. Our server said we couldn’t get chips, salsa, and guac and that we had to order both the chips and guac and another chips and salsa. That’s $ 14 for chips, guac, and salsa. No way. Most or all of their plates come with a side of squash. I didn’t want that side, so when I asked to substitute the squash with a side salad, she said yes with definite attitude. I should have asked her if it was a problem, but I didn’t and she just seemed annoyed by that request. I don’t understand why. And then she charged us for the side salad without notifying us at all. Overall, she didn’t seem like she cared about our experience here… she never checked in on us regarding our food. Horrible and sad.

We very much enjoyed our last full day lunch at the new Santa Fe restaurant. Our waitress(Alana) and the other wait staff were very attentive. Helping us to rearrange a table and a large umbrella to block out the sun. 3 of the group had Santa Fe Chicken Tacos… ate every morsel. And I had the Flank Steak… which was also excellent. We cook a very good flank steak at home, this one measured up to our best efforts. It’s a little out of the way from the main plaza, right next to the Anasazi Hotel. Definitely worth walking over there.

I’m not necessarily a green chili connoisseur yet, but the green chili enchiladas here were great. Even more delicious was the calabasitas that were served on the side with zucchini, squash, corn, onions, and a little salt and oil. I paired it with a perfectly refreshing Chelada that was 98% draft beer and a touch of tomato and lime juice with a Chimayo Chile and salt rim. All that was great, but what brought me here was the downstairs Low ‘n Slow lowrider bar. Good music, cool Chicano décor and good vibes. Whomever designed that place did a good job and a has got some style.

Best New Mexican food in Santa Fe! I had the red chile chicken enchiladas. My kids had the blue corn pancakes and breakfast burrito and loved it — they cleaned they’re plates. Great ambiance and wonderful service. Kid friendly is a big plus.
