I’ve attempted to learn to play guitar at least a dozen times — on various instruments, both borrowed and purchased, and through various methods — with instructors, in groups, online and by way of books and instructional dvds, to no avail. I pretty much thought I was a spastic retard with zero hope of ever learning to strum my favorite instrument. And then I met Ross Hamlin. Ross not only(miraculously) found a way to teach me how to play — working with my gymnastics ravaged and not super bendy wrist, as well as my fussy misshapen fingers, instead of against them — he made(and makes) the process fun. His creativity and enduring optimism are endless and contagious, and these days, even I’m convinced that I’m a guitar player! Ross is armed with a seemingly infinite arsenal of tricks and techniques that make every lesson — in person and virtual Skype sessions, alike — a dynamic new adventure. He keeps it fresh and mixes it up so that I never get bored, and that I get to mix in actual PLAYING with learning basics and practicing scales and integrating the language of music into my cellular structure and my mind, and learning how to finger chords properly, and how to most effectively transition between ‘em. Ross is the ONLY guitar teacher I’ve ever had — and trust me, I’ve had a bunch — that actually moves me forward, and keeps me improving and inspired to practice, and continually surprising myself with consistent progress and an integrated understanding of music and this instrument I so love. Ross is guitar teaching mastery incarnate.
