It was ok. I had the gordita. My wife had the fajitas. I would say the gordita was good. My wife says the fajitas were excellent. I’m not sure what I thought we were going to get, but compared to other Mexican food places in town this was not on par. I would take a hard pass on this restaurant for the shed, or any of the other hundred Mexican food places I. Santa Fe

Pretty good Mexican /Tex-mex food. The enchiladas were enjoyable. Interesting beans on the side — a bit runnier than normal retried beans, which I suppose is part of the Mexican leaning here. Tacos were mediocre. Chips and salsa(three types) were solid. Great, friendly service. Cool décor and good music. Soccer on the tv’s. Probably wouldn’t come back but only because I’m sure there are many other great restaurants here in Santa Fe.

We are new to the Santa Fe area and wanted a good, authentic Mexican meal. We stopped at Los Potrillos and found a gem. The host was friendly, wait staff helpful and delightful. The Chili Rellenos w/pollo was suburb as were the Enchildas with Pollo and the jalapeño sauce. We would highly recommend this restaurant.

This is a great little dive, one of the better mexican restaurants I’ve been to in awhile. Check the mail for 20% off coupons.

Lousy service, expensive food that wasn’t worth ½ the price This restaurant may once have been the HOT place to eat but obviously has fallen on hard times and cut their quality but not the price.

Great place. Fajitas are wonderful and when you order a margarita you get a MARGARITA!

Not New Mexican cuisine but South of the Border goodness with prompt, courteous service. Breakfast was great and folks next to us had a full array of seafood that looked fantastic!

The best Mexican food in the world and my guy is a connoisseur who has traveled all over the world and Mexican food is his favorite. Grew up in NM and have tried many great places. The pasole was amazing and the skirt steak was so tender and flavorful. The red chili was hotter than the green but not too hot! It was delicious. Server was awesome too!

Definitely a local spot; this is some of the next Mexican food we’ve ever had! We came for dinner and thought it was so good we came back for breakfast the next day. The chile relleno is amazing and outstanding service. We will be back!

Let’s get right to it… this place was lame. Poor service to start. Everyone seated when we were and others seated after had their dinners before we had our order taken — and the place was not overly busy. Ribs were«fall-off-the-bone», probably because they were par-boiled and so fatty they slid off the bone. The special fish soup was large… And filled with mostly surimi. The whole mess was overcooked to the point that the shrimp were tough, the actual fish had no taste, and the veggies were paste… The surimi were actually unfurling and looked like pasta noodles. What mussels and pulpo there were obviously came from a can — NASTY!!! Add to that a handful of salt to make the soup even more special. Store clear unless you have no clue about what taste buds are for.

Friends had recommended Los Potrillos, so we gave it a try for lunch. I wasn’t impressed. The dining room is dark and probably hasn’t seen an update to its kitschy motif in decades. The laminated menus are worn and tattered, and this should have been a clue for the whole dining experience. I had the three enchilada combo(Enchilada Colores) and my companion had the chilis rellenos. My beef, chicken and cheese enchiladas were sparse on the fillings and heavy on the sauce. Unfortunately, the rellenos was nothing special either. I’ll stick with Café Castro(right up the road) for their better food, service, value and dining ambiance.

Looking for an early Sunday dinner, we decided to stop here and give it a shot! After passing it a hundred times we were extremely impressed and feel lucky we had such an amazing experience. The service was exceptional and the food to die for. We shared the ceviche over a couple of ice cold Modelo especial’s served with frosted beer mugs to make our experience on this beautiful sunny day that more enjoyable. We will definitely be back to taste more of this delightful menu.

My sense is that this restaurant was fabulous at one time but has settled into a comfortable rest on the laurels position. I tried a variation on chile rellenos and they were so so – I have cooked this dish many times and if I can do better than a famous Mexican restaurant, there is a problem. They need to pick up their game if they want to keep an eye on authentic.

One of my favorite Old Mexican food restaurants in NM. Their arrachera steak melts in your mouth! It is GLORIOUS! The last times I ate there, the flavor had gone down a notch, but it still was outstanding. Drools. ..

Los Potrillos is one of my local favorites. Great New Mexican meals at affordable prices, with a variety of dishes to choose from. My favorites are the Camal de Cazuela, a tortilla and cheese-laden version of corn chowder; and the Ceviche Tacos, served fresh with just the right amount of lime and herbs. My husband prefers the spicy New Mexican fare; his Los Potrillos go-to meal is the cheese Chile Rellenos. Last but not least, the unique atmosphere is worth dining in. Dining on authentic fare surrounded by murals of life on an idyllic Mexican horse ranch, saddles, chaps, and hats, one feels right at home at Los Potrillos.

This place is a pretty traditional Mexican place as far as things go. That means the food isn’t NEW Mexican, which is «more» Americanized and def more fatty, and, to my mind, more delicious. But I liked a lot of the stuff going on here. Evidence: when you get tortilla chips, you get THREE sauces: queso, red chile, and chipotle. That was awesome. The queso is room temp but good. And the red chile is solid. Evidence: the service here is top notch. People here care about your experience. You get checked on, but you don’t get interrupted too much. I ordered the chile rellenos, which was Mexican style(which means it wasn’t too deep fried in delicious fattiness, and it wasn’t slopped with chile sauce and cheese). It was pretty good. The chiles were a little seedy, however, and I’m not sure they have to be? Overall, the ambiance and the service win out. The food is three stars but the service is five.
