At just a few minutes’ drive from Canyon Road, it really is worth a quick visit. Around the center(which has a lovely gift shop and some historic buildings) there are lots of birdfeeders that attract a range of birds and critters. The trails are well-made and wind through piñón woodland, where you can sometimes see wildlife(early AM is best!) but more often wildflowers and mammal tracks. A hike up into the heavily wooded Bear Canyon is highly recommended– the pines are beautiful, and away from the winds of the mountainside it is completely silent. Overall a very scenic and beautiful trip for a few hours’ break from town!

A free(donations accepted) lovely hike that be extended into the national forest. It was a cold sunny Saturday morning and we saw only one other person. The chickadees and finches kept us company… saw a deer and a squirrel. It is a peaceful and beautiful place to hike among the pines. At the birdfeeders near the information center, we saw a chipmunk chowing down, along with towhees, and purple finches.

Great birding spot up in the hills above Santa Fe. There are many bird feeders at the visitor center where you can see many birds including lots of hummingbirds. Beautiful hilly trail. Well maintained with friendly volunteers! This is the best Audobon center I have visited. Must see for birders. Very beautiful property.
