These are the donuts I grew up on, and are subsequently my very favorites! I get these donuts every time I am in Santa Fe. The donuts are not made on site, but they are made fresh daily. I love the chocolate iced and chocolate filled ones. There is something about the chocolate that is just right and perfectly chocolaty… if there is such a word. The glazed are also absolutely delicious! The glaze is light(not heavy… such as a Krispy Kreme style) and sweet and truly makes the glazed donuts a «Shipley’s» donut. You will however find differences in donut tastes and glazes at different Shipley’s locations. The recipe is similar, but not always exactly the same, so it makes it easier to love one location more than another and this one is the best! I have heard that some people like the kolaches better at other places, but I don’t typically care for kolaches anyway, so I can’t judge them. I do however suggest you try these donuts, you will see what I am talking about.

If your in Texas, stop at a Shipley’s and try something. If you like pastry pockets, have a kolache it’s what makes Shipley’s famous. We came across this location whilst driving down to Galveston. The spicy kolaches are different here than in Houston. They have bits of sliced jalapenos, not enough in every bite, it’s a waste and a travesty. I suspect it has something to do with the timid tastes of localites. I don’t think this location ever gets busy. The window guy was happy we stopped by.
