I had an estate piece of heavy sterling silver & orange coral Navaho squash blossom necklace restrung here two years ago. Whoever did the repair did it so tightly that it rolled every time I wore it. When I picked it up I noticed that and mentioned it to lady I was paying. She brushed my concern off and said it would be fine; it was just a new restring. It was on a chain; they do not stretch or settle. It was NOT fine. This is not the place I recommend for this meticulous work. I recommend Michael at Shalako Indian Jewelry. He restrung my beautiful squash blossom within one day. That’s service!!! It took Sun Country MONTHS to restring it wrong. Naughty-naughty.

My son and I had a great experience at Sun Country Traders. There are so many shops in Santa Fe that after a while it can become overwhelming, especially with an 11 year old, non-shopper, in tow. What caught our eye about this shop was their Christmas tree display(in April!). They had beautiful, Navajo-made ornaments. We always make it a goal to pick up an ornament for our tree that reflects our travels for the year. They had an excellent selection and were extremely low pressure. They also have cases of jewelry and other handcrafted items. We really enjoyed our experience in their shop and will be back!

A lot of the shops in Santa Fe feel like they are either(1) super expensive art galleries or(1) just packed with stuff. Sun Country Traders is different; there’s plenty of space to move around and things aren’t grotesquely overpriced. To me, this is the most interesting thing about this shop. The owners/workers seem to be very laid-back. No heavy sales pressure, and they seem just glad to chat a while! I was in here looking at some Navajo folk art carvings. The worker I spoke with was knowledgeable and unassuming, which I found very refreshing. I didn’t end up buying anything, but if something had caught my eye, I definitely would’ve bought it here. I will be back.

Great selection of very unique jewelry and drums here. I heard of them from another shop because they give fair compensation to their Native American artisans. I found a necklace here that was unlike any other that I saw anywhere else in New Mexico. I looked at SO much jewelry while here, but was waiting for something to really wow me. I found that here for a very fair price.

I just bought a ring from here on our visit to Santa Fe and had such a great experience with the staff and their prices are very reasonable. Besides beautiful jewelry, some of the other cool stuff I saw were drums and arrows. I usually feel awkward going into a place to pick jewelry from the display counters because I didn’t want to feel pressured to buy anything that I didn’t love. However, here the staff was understood that I didn’t want to spend too much and still were so helpful, giving me tips like how the altitude might affect my ring size and which rings are more sturdy for people like me who forget to take them off when I wash my hands and stuff. Plus, the staff were so knowledgeable about the rings(how they were made, how to best clean them, etc.) which made the process of picking a ring very interesting. I bought a great ring after trying several different ones for a very reasonable price of $ 22. Definitely make a stop at this store in downtown Santa Fe. You can find some awesome gifts and souvenirs for guys and girls.

Sun Country Traders is always one of our favorite stops while in Santa Fe. Their prices are usually quite fair compared to other places, and they carry a good range of Zuni & Navajo products among others. Wife will often mail order from them for christmas time as well.
