This is a great winery. I used to work across the street for years and we’d come here on Friday nights after work. The owner and hostess here were awesome. We’d wine taste and even get out of the barrel samples. We learned so much about our tastes for wine and discovered what was good and what was not for our tastes. And just learned about wine in general.

Ok, I will start off by saying that I am not a novice at drinking wine… I have tasted thousands of wines and love the whole wine culture. But I hate the wine snobs and I would think that im not one of them. That being said, my buddy and I were up in the area working and we decided to go to this winery from the Unilocal reviews. We got there and we were greated by Xesh who is the wine maker. We were the only ones in this place so that made me a bit sceptical about this place… Well, let me tell you we hit the home run with this place. It wasnt your typical winery. It was in a warehouse district but when you walked in, it was very tastefully decorated and very cozy and warm. Xesh sat us down and gave us so much info about grapes, the leaves etc… I felt like I just took a course in wine making. And he taught me a lot that I didnt know!!! And thats what I love about going to wineries as apposed to the big wine festivals. Its very personable and you learn things that you would not get from getting sauces up at some wine festival with a billion people standing around tellin you how much they love you and lets do lunch. Anyway, So he went through most of his wines and they were GREAT! GREATPRICEPOINT… This is a hidden gem off the beatin path… You have to stop here when going up to Paso or farther north. A MUSTSTOP!!! Very generous pours and good times… My buddy who does not wine taste thinks it a chic thing and this experience changed his mind… It was just what the doctor ordered from my hectic schedule and he really enjoyed it as well. I walked out of there with 4 bottles and a great memory of this place and a new friend Xesh!!! Serious, I have been to almost all the wineries in Santa Ynez and Paso Robles and been to Napa and Sonoma serveral times and this place is ranks with the best… Im rating it on price point and quality. Its a great bargain… Their Cabs for burnin for the price… and I dug their Merlot and their blend. I like a winery who across the board produces good wines at a fair price. I dont need to spend $ 80 on a cab and it drinks like a $ 20 from Ralphs… No Thanks… Im lookin for great value. Period. There are WAY too many wineries now that you can choose from in this area. You dont have to pay those prices… My other favorite wineries are Carhart in Los Olivos. CASS in Paso Robles… Again, very consistant wines across the board. Again, if you pass this gem up, you are a fool!!! Stay thirsty my friends! Enjoy your next glass!!! Make it a McKeon-Phillps!!!

My boyfriend and I decided to take a random trip to Santa Maria. Wine tasting was one of the only activities available in this town. We visited McKeon-Philips Winery with the help of Unilocal, and we are so glad we did. It was an unexpectedly wonderful experience! Suzanne(Manager) was friendly and entertaining, the décor created a cozy ambience, and all the wines were tasty! You WILLNOT be disappointed!

My absolute favorite winery hands down! And I have been to many. Every single wine in their collection is superb! Especially the port filled chocolates! I could never walk out of this place with out taking a box of this delicious goodness. Its an easy find off the 101 at Betteravia drive West to Blosser turn right make a U turn it is on the right in an industrial park. The wines are so worth the visit! You’ll be glad you stopped by.

Updated 07⁄06: Sadly, we can confirm that they are closed. We liked the place enough to buy wine futures during our honeymoon so we could have a bottle for each of our anniversaries. We’ve been unable to contact anyone to see if we could get our wines. — — - Very helpful staff, nice atmosphere, reasonable prices, got extra pours. Very solid wines. Beautiful original artwork by owner(who sadly passed away this year) on both walls and wine labels. Definitely worth a detour! 5 stars for service 3 stars for location 4 stars for wine 4 stars for ambience

Of all the wineries in the area, I wouldn’t say this is the best. Good wine, but it’s expensive and in a kind of random location. Glad we went once, but not sure we’ll be going many more times(if at all).

A little out of the way in a warehouse, industrial area. GPS location is off a little. It is on the left of the road, earlier than what the GPS says. Look for wine barrels. Not the typical, pretty wine tasting locations. They buy grapes from others and make wine there. Just on wine tasting, it is pretty good. The wines are nice. No one there except for us, the owner, and the guy behind the counter. $ 10 for a flight of wine, with some extra wines added. Very relaxing and not rushed at all. The owner give us a free wine opener when we bought a bottle. That was nice. But the location is not really for everyone. For the more casual wine tasters, a tasting room in a winery might be more suitable.

This place doesn’t look like much from the outside, but they’ve created a great environment inside. The staff was very welcoming and knowledgable. The owner/winemaker and his wife were eager to answer all our questions, and they made us feel at home. Best of all, the wine flights were very generous and the wines themselves were superb. They specialize in reds but have a Chardonnay with a great nose and finish, and they’re unique in their commitment to allow the wines to age. A lot more could be said about the artwork and environment, but you should just go ahead and check it out.

This place has good wine and a fair price, but if you want a wine review go to a wine website, this is a place for tasting room reviews. They had a few different tasting choices and all are decent priced. Unlike some tasting rooms, they have seats and will bring bottles to you and explain the wine with knowledge and not just rush you out the door. I found it very refreshing to sit down for close to an hour with a pretty much one on one experience with the pourer hearing stories and telling ours back. They had a few futures available for tasting as well which is more like you see at other places on big group tours(futures = barrel tastings) but we saw with just the two of us. I also found their wine to be much more reasonable priced and better aged than other wineries have. The typical winery tasting room will charge you virtual restaurant prices, while this place charged sub-retail prices. They also hold their wines till maturity, so when you go to one of the big conglomerate’s rooms, you will be tasting 2009 whites and 08⁄07 reds that are not ready to drink and being rushed to market to simply make money, McKeon-Phillips tasting room will serve you 07 whites and 03 – 05 reds that are ready to drink having aged properly(this is a pre-harvest 2010 review). They are hard to find and only have one small sign, being in the«wine ghetto» of Santa Maria, but well worth the trip.

The tasting room is found in a sort of industrial warehouse type place, and is decorated by some great paintings, all of which are done by the wine maker. I sampled around 15 wines, and enjoyed about 13 of them. The Nebbiolo, Pinots, Cabs, and Chardonnay were outstanding. Service was excellent and met with the wine maker to discuss the wines. Great place, highly recommended, and will be back many times in the near future.

I haven’t actually been to the winery but was recently gifted a bottle of the 2003 Syrah Reserve. It was so delicious that I ordered more from the website and it arrived very quickly. I will defnitely have to visit one day!
