Kathleen was easy to work with and very helpful. We actually had to cancel our session and made that process very easy and comfortable. What a nice person! I highly recommend 4^th Street Recording Studio as professional and reputable.

4^th street recording studio might be the most laid back and amazing recording environment in Los Angeles. You not only get recording on top of the line equipment (priceless microphones) but the prices are totally reasonable. After midnight on weekdays it’s awesome to bring a huge group of musicians to jam out for a few hours, then you let the engineer turn you into gods.
There’s a den upstairs for those musicians recording an album and need to get some shuteye before the next all day session.
They have a lot of instruments on site. They have a grand piano which the beach boys used to record kokomo on. Incubus recorded many albums here as well.
Plus your right by the promenade. Do some music go to the bar grab a beer come back and do more music. I’ll be back.

I am the executive producer for Jules Day’s next album. We needed an L.A. location and chose 4^th Street Recording Studio in Santa Monica because of its well-​earned reputation. The first sign that I made the right decision was when I spoke by phone to the owner to schedule our first session. She was friendly, informative, courteous, helpful, and exuded an attitude I wish everyone could have. The excellence in the other personnel we met at 4^th Street Recording followed suit — from the great and knowledgeable engineer, to the onsite staff — they all made sure we were comfortable and satisfied with all aspects of the recording process. The icing on the cake was «the sound.» I can’t stress this enough — THE SOUND! Our project needed a great piano — not only did we get an awesome piano track that words can’t adequately describe, the vocal was recorded using the studio’s vintage Neumann mic that flawlessly captured every nuance of Jules’ unique instrument. On the way home, after that first session, we popped our CD (still in its rough mix form) into the car and nearly drove off the road at the sound we heard! I must confess, I have mixed feelings about writing this review because I’m not sure it’ll benefit me to let my competition (other industry folks) know they can still get such top-​notch quality at such low rates. I really want to keep this studio a secret, but as they say, a rising tide lifts all boats, so my honest advice for anyone considering booking a session there; hurry while the economy is down and 4^th Street Recording’s rates are this competitive — right now, it’s the best of both worlds.

When we needed to cut an album without any frills (in other words, without spending a cent more than we had to), we went to 4^th Street Recording. I really, really liked the young guys working in there, as they were very chill and down to earth. My guitar player was a total primadonna, which made things tense at times, but they always conducted themselves with dignity in spite of some childish treatment. I really appreciated that.
4^th Street’s claim to fame — if I’m not mistaken — is that the Beach Boys cut a lot of their stuff there. I kind of felt like not a lot had been updated (or dusted) since that time, but I could tell that in its heyday, 4^th Street must have been a pretty swank little place. For me, though, it was way cramped — the vocal booth was literally doubling as «the hallway» between the mixing room and the recording room, which made things kind of… unnecessarily complicated. Whatever though, it got the job done.
