Angels Attic

I used to drive by this place all the time when commuting on Colorado Blvd, but when they shut it down for what seems to be like forever, I completely forgot it even existed.
Our office had a westside outing and one of the spots to hit up was Angels Attic. This place is as creepy as you’d expect a museum full of dollhouses and dolls. You have to go in with an open mind because there’s a lot of charm in there. If you’re lucky enough to get the gentleman working, he’ll give you a tour and history lesson while you’re at it.
Admission is $ 8 per adult and only cash and check are accepted.

I’m so glad I finally came to this place! I recommend it even if you’re not a doll lover. There is so much history to these doll houses… they’re miniature homes frozen in time! Even my boyfriend enjoyed our visit. The gentleman working there was super nice and informative. We were the only people there on a Saturday afternoon, which is a pity because this place was amazing! Do yourself a favor and go!

A few days ago I went to Angel’s Attic, the dollhouse museum in Santa Monica. The museum is located inside of a beautiful Victorian-​style home. The home was built in 1895 and it was converted to a museum about 30 years ago. Unfortunately, the future of the museum is unknown due to the fact that they are building the train line right in front, along Colorado Ave.
Upon arriving, the first thing I noticed was that it was very quiet and it seemed as though no one was there and they might be closed. We rang the doorbell and a nice gentlemen opened the door and invited us in. We entered the porch area and the first thing we saw was a giant dollhouse, amazing! He knew everything about every dollhouse and led us on a breathtaking tour through the ages. There were dolls and dollhouses dating back from the 1700’s. It was a beautiful experience and I highly recommend all to come, especially those with an affinity for dolls. Even if you are not typically into dolls, you will still find that this place strikes you as interesting and will be a nice source of entertainment for the day.

My wife Sandra and I visited the museum in September 2010 during our annual vacation from the UK. The place is magical and inspiring, and the gentleman who gave us the tour was so helpful, knowledgeable and positive. He gave us as much time as we needed to look around and ask questions, providing fascinating information about each doll house and its history and context. We will seek out the Bethnal Green doll museum on his recommendation.
There was so much to see, and everything was so beautiful — the building itself, all the doll houses and of course their little inhabitants! Sandra has not stopped talking about the museum and the Beatrix potter characters in particular, we will definitely be back next year and recommend you to friends and colleagues.
