Definition Audio Video

I went in looking for a moderately priced first turntable set up. I wanted to walk out the door with everything I needed to go home and play records. I had done research on the turntable I wanted and brushed up on my audio jargon. I told them the model I wanted (Pro Ject Debut Carbon) and my price range for everything else.
Both the guys in the store (I’m sorry I forget their names as my purchase is from a while ago!) were incredibly helpful in explaining every component and broke down all my options. After they found some already unboxed items for demo, they knocked my socks off! The sound of their equipment was superb. They’re knowledge was expansive and informative without feeling like I was being talked down to.
They made a nice package and gave me a great deal on a floor model NAD amp and some unboxed MHT 129watt speakers. A tasty deal.
I ended up spending about 20% more than my budget but I knew they were selling me a high end product I would be happy with. Well now over a month later, I am still incredibly happy with my purchase and think it was worth every penny. Every time I put on a record, I feel like I’m driving a Ferrari.
They packed everything up, threw in some extra cables and helped load it all into my car. A real classy establishment.

If you are an audiophile this is the store for you. There are not that many places in Los Angeles where you can audition speakers in the range of 5 to 50k on solid stage or tube amps, whatever feets your needs. They have a very large selection of cables as well. I bought my turntable there and they did all the setup. I highly recommend this store to anyone who is looking for a high end audio equipment.

What more can I say, the guys at Definition are great. Jovan was extremely helpful but not overly so like many others that seem like they are trying to push sales on you. This could be because they aren’t necessarily retailers but specialize in custom installs (A/​V systems, home automation, and the like).
Due to working an 8 – 5, I wasn’t able to get to their showroom until just before closing (we’re talking 5 mins before). And even though it wasn’t a retail day, Jovan was kind enough to power everything that he just turned off back on so I could audition some speakers. Two hours later, I came out of the store with a greater appreciation for high-​end audio and a more clear understanding of what I wanted in my next pair of speakers. Two weeks later, I ended up purchasing new speakers along with a new integrated amp from them.
Speakers are a very personal and subjective purchase and you should buy based on what sounds good to you and not based on what reviewers say. Jovan couldn’t stress this enough. On my second visit (this time during retail hours) my wife and I sat there for hours just listening to music with Jovan and demoing everything they had. We hardly spoke other than to discuss which track to play next. If you’re in the market for high-​end audio, I highly encourage you to stop by and give these guys a visit even if it’s just to chat or demo their amazing equipment.
