Elias Custom Tailoring

I am very pleased with the quality of the tailoring at Elias. They understand the details of clothing and execute on fitting the garment to my body.

AVOID AVOID — RUDE, ARGUMENTATIVE, DISORGANIZED, POOR QUALITY
Elias needs a lesson in how to treat their paying customers. I had several trips to the shop and will NEVER be returning. On multiple occasions I called in advance of my arrival to ensure that my clothing had been finished and twice they told me that my order was ready only to arrive and find out this was not the case. Upon my arrival they attempted to rush my tailoring job while I sat patiently in the store. Behind a curtain they hacked together a miserable excuse for taking in the waist on an expensive pair of jeans. I told them that their work was visibly unacceptable and had to come back days later to have the job done in a reasonable fashion.
On my last trip to the shop I came to pick up two jackets. I called in advance to make sure that I was not wasting my time. They said «Your jackets are finished, come on by» Upon my arrival I inspected my jackets to find that they work was in fact not finished. I told them and waited an additonal 10 minutes for them to once again rush to do the work they said was complete.
After waiting, I was not happy with the quality of work on one of the sport coats which they wanted to charge me $ 68 dollars for. I explained to Gor that I was not happy with the quality of the job and he immediately began to yell at me in front of a shop full of customers. Saying that I am complaining and I agreed to pay. He told me that he would donate my jacket to the salvation army and give it to someone who deserves it.
The manner in which these people deal with their clientele is simply laughable. I paid 10 dollars for one jacket to have a label re-​sewn on the spot and was robbed of a designer suit jacket which they wanted to charge me $ 68 dollars for roughshod repairs. He tried to claim that he did work which I did not even request saying that the lining of the jacket needed repair. The work was uneven and there was no noticeable improvement whatsoever.
If you are looking for a tailor that does mediocre work at best, treats you with utter disregard, expects you to pay full price without any consideration for quality of work, and tells you that your work is complete without even checking, then you have found your new tailor!
Shame on this business. A true disgrace. Cash only.
PRO TIP: If you complain, they will steal your beloved garments and donate them to charity.

I have been a regular customer for 5 years, in at least once a month. Service had been consistently OK, but location handy. Today my wife went to pick up a dress that she had left for altering. They had already messed up the initial attempt, and this time it was worse. When she raised the issue again and mentioned not wanting to pay for faulty work, and that may have ruined an expensive dress. The owners went crazy. They yelled and screamed, they yanked the dress from her hands and refused to give it to her without full payment. Needless to say she paid and then took to another tailor that confirmed their errors and poor workmanship. Well Elias you just lost a regular and formerly loyal customer.

Usually great work. Been going there for decades. This time was no exception. However if you get jeans hemmed they will charge you 30% more ($ 18 vs $ 14) if you don’t tell them «no original.» They won’t ask you, they just upcharge you. Imagine going to Nordstroms for shoes and them charging you for extra insoles when you didn’t ask for them. Scam, right? I confronted them about it, gave them a chance to do the right thing. They refused. Buyer beware! They don’t care about doing right by the customer. You just lost a customer «Elias»

I really don’t like writing negative reviews and prefer to use Unilocal to review places that I want others to check out. So if a place is mediocre/​average then I will usually refrain from giving a 2 – 3 star review. That said, I had a very negative experience here. Visiting from out of town, I brought two blazers here to be tailored. They charged $ 113 for both, to shorten sleeves (which I found a little high). When they returned the blazers, one lilac one had multiple dark stains all over– sleeves, back, front. The management asked if it was foundation– which I don’t even wear. These stains were dark. They consented to take $ 15 dollars off to cover dry cleaning, but only after I spoke to multiple people there. They were not friendly or helpful about this and I left with a terrible taste in my mouth. I do not recommend going here– take your business elsewhere!

Always ready when they say or earlier. The work is exceptional. I went to another tailor once to save a little money and it wasn’t worth.
Elias has all my business now.

I was really nervous about getting my very intricate crochet skirt altered, but they did such a wonderful job! They guy was very friendly and made sure it was the length I wanted. Definitely going back.

I’m surprised to see the number negatives here. Tailoring is an in-​exact art and it may take a try or two to get things perfect. I have been a customer here for more than 15 years.
Most recently Gor tailored a new Armani Black Label Tuxedo for me. He immediately acknowledge the value and was extremely careful about it’s treatment and care. After the initial work was completed, a couple of minor adjustments were needed. Gor pointed them out to me and completed the work right on the spot.
I had to wait a bit to get the initial tailoring done but the fact that they are that busy attests to something.

Not the same since Jack left. Charged twice for the same pair of pants. Hemmed 3″ too long but did not try on within 7 days.
They were good before.

I use to go to this place and always was very happy. But recently I am very unhappy. Just needed straps to be fixed and another dress to have shoulders make smaller and paid 40 dollars and when I came home to wear it the straps ripped and the dress was not even fixed evenly. I am not going to this place anymore, overpriced and not even a good job done anymore.

Be careful. If you are considering a repair, then take a «Before» picture. Just had two pairs of pants ruined. What started as a little snag that was hardly noticeable was turned into a huge knot that was a «no charge» repair while they were taking in the pants. When I pointed out the knot, they promised to fix it. I returned to find that they had turned a little snag into a big hole and they now wanted to send the pants out for reweaving at an extra charge. Their «free repair» on top of a $ 28 alteration turned a $ 100 pair of pants into a Goodwill donation.
The other pair started out with a request to have the cuffs removed from a pair of suit pants. I was persuaded to take in the back of the legs. They gave me the pants back with a futile attempt to create a new crease. I have had similar work done on other pants and never had the crease change. Their story was they don’t have the right press to take out the old crease. Just go spend more money at your dry cleaner. The cleaners were incredulous that they would make such a claim about suit pants that had an obvious permanent crease. This $ 28 alteration means I will never be able to wear that suit again.
Previously, their two or three day service was a fair trade off for the frantic and crowded fitting area and the 80% chance they would get it right on the first trip. Now, it is a crap shoot.
And be sure to get a price written on your slip when you drop off. Otherwise be prepared for sticker shock when what you thought would be $ 20 or $ 30 from prior experience turns in to a $ 40 or $ 50 bill with an implausible explanation for why this time is different.

Elias saved my wedding dress! I have a friend who’s been coming here for years, but I didn’t make my first trip until a bad experience with David’s Bridal alterations left me wondering if I’d need to buy a second dress. Took it to Elias to salvage whatever possible and I could not be more thrilled.
This is quality workmanship – so it’s not cheap, but it’s certainly not overpriced. You get what you pay for, and in this case that means a tailor who knows his craft, takes his time fitting the garment to your body, and turns it around extremely quickly (less than a week for my dress, which needed a lot of work). I’ll never go to another tailor again.

So I brought these brand new Club Monaco shorts to alter on June 27, 2015. I’ll let the pictures speak for itself… I’m highly disappointed to say the least.

They messed up the shoulder on a jacket.
I wanted to take it back to Tom Ford to have it corrected: it was a big purchase and i didn’t want to risk them messing it up even more.
Wouldn’t give me the refund. After 12 years of patronage.
Also charged me $ 40 more than was quoted on the ticket for a suit alteration.
Used to be able to trust them with anything, and Jack was calm and courteous.
Time before last, another customer was having a problem that was not being resolved. Now I’m out as well. Shame.

I’m a triathlete and I pretty much have to alter everything I buy because I have long legs, and nice butt and narrow waist. I have been going to Elias for probably 20 years. I have somewhat unique and expensive clothing because I am lucky to be friends with designers who gift these clothes to me. Jack, who recently left this business and moved away, is such an expert that he made everything fit as if it was custom-​made for me. Unfortunately those days are gone. Most recently, three out of the four pieces that I took in were altered beyond repair. This is my last time. What a sad situation because this establishment has helped me and my family for so long and it seems to me that the reluctance of the owner to come to terms with Jack has resulted in the current situation. It’s his loss, if he doesn’t do something quickly, he’s going to lose all of his customers.

I don’t know what these bad reviews are. Are we coming to the same place. Crappy service? Say what? I am sorry, I have been coming here forever and I get nothing but amazing service every.single.time. Maybe it’s not Elias? Maybe it’s YOU! Some people just expect too damn much I swear. Anyway…
I lost a lot of weight (21 pounds) so all my old clothe needed a lot of cutting and nipping done, and needed a great tailor. I read the reviews for Elias, saw they were overpriced according to most reviews and took my business elsewhere… and regretfully so. A very expensive dress that was too long on me was butchered and ruined. You get what you pay for eh? So there I went, dragging my furious butt out of the cheap tailor place and to Elias, which is where I should have went in the first place. Is Elias overpriced? Yes perhaps it is… but they do exceptional work.
I just took a grey leather jacket to them that resembled a potato sack on me… no shape, just huge. Elias alters leather! The nice young guy (I’m an awful customer I don’t know his name, but he is so nice and always helps me) put me up on that pedestal thing and is a few minuets I envisioned this jacket actually looking amazing on me.
Thank you, young guy at Elias, (crap I need to find out your name) for always being so nice and helpful and for actually making my clothe fit my curves. Big shout outs and kudos to you!

First, I was told my things would be ready on Thursday, so I went in early this morning (Thursday)The clothes weren’t ready and they said to come back at 2:00. When I went back, they still weren’t ready. When they were done, I began to try them on. Both my coat and jacket hadn’t been done (moving buttons). My Tory Burch jacket has beautiful gold buttons and they were still crooked.
While Gore (who is a great tailor) was working on them, Elias himself came out and said «you should just take those buttons off– it would look much better!» What???
After being there an hour (!), the manager came out.
I said very nicely that things didn’t seem to be very organized. Instead of just a simple apology, she got very angry at me, and defensive. She said everything was perfect there, etc. She even said that I should have known to come after 12:00–
How would I have known? They just said Thursday.
Through all of it I was ok– I just wanted it all to be done. But after this woman attacked me– I left totally upset.

Really apathetic service, usually a wait, and their craft is pretty shoddy. I will not return and would not recommend others.

This place sucks! Such a crap! I gave them to repair my pants, to sew up a hole on the knee, they charged 34 $ and the work was done soooo unprofessionally, just a crap! A 7 year old child could have done this better!!! It was supposed to be done neatly so not to be seen, but what I’ve got– you can see right away. They just spoiled my pants and charged 34 $ so I could throw them away! Never ever go there!!!
