Yum. Place is awesome. My wife and I were on vacation and just strolled up from the beach for a quick snack/bite to eat. The person behind the counter recommended this one. Super good. Wish they would open in AZ. Would definately be a regular.

$ 16 for a loaded pie aint cheap, but holy crap it is damn good. Way better than bronzed aussie in DTLA. 5 stars if it wasnt so expensive.

Our first time here. Great help from the staff, including free samples of each side to taste. We ordered the Chicken Tarragon with ¼ stack to enjoy a bit of each. Great comfort food!

Absolutely delicious. I recommend the steak one and avoid the curry. All the sides are delicious! Get a pie with some sides and prepare yourself to be satisfied yet full.

Why have I not stopped by earlier? Fantastic savory pies right along Main Street! My friend and I shared the Tiger Stack with Surfer’s Paradise. They stacked Mac & Cheese on top and Stuffing along the side with gravy dipping. We were so impressed! For $ 7 we were stuffed, literally. The pies are full of flavor and slightly spicy that adds a great kick overall. The concept and variations of stacks is very unique. There are many sides to try and the employees were so gracious in offering samples. 5 stars and can’t wait to come by again!

I didn’t get one of their pies but opted for ½ scoops of their mushy peas, mashed potatoes, and quinoa salad for $ 6. I am in love with their peas but the portion is on the small side. Will try a pie the next time I’m here.

The food is amazing and the staff were friendly and helpful — so good! Love the mix and match sides and they’ll let you taste the sides so you know just what you’re getting. The pies take 3 days to make and are super fresh.

Oh wow. So, so good. If you want a hearty meal, stop at Aussie Pie for some delicious eats! The store is cute and little, but has decent seating for devouring on the spot. But don’t worry if you can’t finish it all in one sitting, or have to take it to go – reheated Aussie Pie is still tasty! If you have a smaller stomach, you can ask for smaller portions, and there’s free water if you eat in. Street parking might be tough, but this is in Santa Monica, after all: come at an off hour, and there can be good spots right in front. Nice, friendly staff and yummy local food – will be coming back again!

After messaging backwards and forwards with the owner(who is very nice) I take back my two star rating, as we both agree I was looking for an Authentic meat pie and this is a reinvented meat pie for the American Palette… Also I think I was grumpy because I tried to eat it as a hand held pie(The Aussie Way) and you need a fork to eat his pies, so it resulted in me burning my chest when it all fell apart and dropped… I still find it overpriced but I’m quite sure they overcharge him for the rent on Main St. I wish him and his shop the best of luck and success for many years to come, but please remove the Authentic sign on your window, as to not disappoint us Kiwis and Aussies… Cheers

This might be the best thing I’ve ever eaten. Add on top of that the fact that you have the privilege of late night access(closes at 2:30am on Fri, Sat), it almost seems too good to be true. I came here for the first time quite tipsy after a concert, and hungry af, and this food was the perfect night cap. I proceeded to order the Shiraz steak pie with a side of mac and topped with mushroom gravy. I recommend all of those things. The croissant bread pudding afterwards was delicious, as well. In conclusion, bomb.

This is a lovely Australian pie shop. I ordered a half Tiger Stack with the Steak and Shiraz Pie, sweet potato, and minty mushed peas with chicken gravy on top. Deeeeelish! I literally ate every bit of what I ordered. I was weary on how minty peas would taste but it wasn’t too minty at all. Everything was full of flavor but also worked well together at the same time. A little Tobasco on top brought everything up another notch! Def will be trying other flavor pies.

AUSSIEPIES with tasty crust, sides, and gravy! reminds me of bangers & mash in london you can order the pies alone but they suggest stacking the pies on top of a side dish(they let us sample all the sides before ordering) and then topping it all off with gravy! all the components went so well together —chicken tarragon pie on top of mashed potatoes with half mushroom and half creamy thyme gravy: MMmmmm the chicken was moist, the crust was flaky, the mash was creamy —steak & shriaz pie on top of mac n cheese with mushroom gravy: also a great combination, the steak was tender and flavorful i’ve gotta come back to try the brekkie pastries, quiches, and other pies! NOTE: they have vegetarian pies & sides as well

This is my second visiting to this restaurant, and their food has gotten even better than the previous time. The lamb and rosemary pie was succulent and flavorful. The pastry was baked to a perfect golden brown. The icing to the cake was the ever delish mint pea mash. I will come back and try their new curry pie when I go back to LA for a visit.

Whenever I come here I always get the tiger stack, which is the perfect portion size for me. I tried the ratatouille pie for the first time, and it was amazing. The staff is always friendly and guy that makes the flat whites knows what he’s doing.

Ok, so it has been about a year since i’d been back to APK and and i’m glad i swung in. Got to try the various brekkie pies and rolls, which i missed out on last time and the new additions to their menu do not disappoint! Their stuffing, succotash and quinoa sides are delish and i can’t even begin to describe how yummy the new pulled pork and truffle mac and cheese is. OMG! That on top of their garlic mash with the mushroom gravy… is all my inner fat kid ever wanted. Haha. Hope they open locations in NYC so i can have my fix more than once a year!

LA offers transcendental meditation and all its benefits, but there’s an easier way to bliss: Aussie Pie Kitchen offers transcendental dining. Food like this is why the ‘slow food’ movement has such momentum. You can taste the time and consideration put into their product as clearly as you hear the genuine love and passion from the owners, Nick and Jerri. I’ve read some of the lower-star ratings on here and nine times out of ten it’s a question of misaligned expectations from Aussies. I’m Australian too, and grew up on ‘classic’ meat pies and sausage rolls — so when you see a sign saying ‘Aussie Pie Kitchen’ you’d be forgiven for expecting that. But this is far more are more gourmet, boutique fare, which is surprising in the best way.(For ‘classic’ stuff — exquisitely done — go to the awesome Garlo’s in Westwood). Simply put, it’s a pie kitchen, founded by an Aussie, more than it is a kitchen making Aussie pies. Another thing touched on in some reviews is the cost. It ain’t cheap, but neither is a steak at Mastro’s. And they’re both worth it. I always have the pie floater which is a really hearty, quality meal. And I always finish with one of NannaMac’s lamingtons, which are, as the name suggests, the culinary equivalent of a hug from Grandma after she’s cooked you dinner. Get down to a cool part of Santa Monica and get yourself a great feed.

This place is pretty good! Everything I’ve tried there is been really tasty. I just wish the Décor wasn’t so casual. It reminds me of being in a chipotle or something. the food is really great but I often don’t want to go because the atmosphere is so underwhelming.

Overall: Amazing! I ate there about a week ago with my boyfriend. We are not from the area and were looking for a delicious, but not too expensive meal. The food is incredibly delicious, the service was great, and the owner was fun to talk to. Well deserved 5 stars. Food: 5 I had the steak and shiraz pie and my boyfriend had the lamb one. Both were flaky, rich, and just simply delicious. We both stacked ours with yukon mashed potatoes(make sure you get the gravy!), and I had mushed mint peas and he had the stuffing. THESEAREMYFAVORITEPEASEVER. I wish I lived in Santa Monica for these peas. My BF loved his stuffing side and we both fawned over the mashed potatoes. TIP: You can ask for ½ sides and get 2 for the price of one if you are on a budget… also get extra gravy! Service: 5 The owner is incredibly welcoming and fun to talk to with his Aussie accent. I shared my love of peas with him and was glad he could appreciate it. The staff there is also great. A really nice young man let my BF and I taste all the sides when we were torn about which ones to get. That didn’t make the decision much easier though because everything was good. I really appreciated how helpful he was. Ambiance: 4 The restaurant is clean and hip, but it is small. I am really thankful we were able to snag a table. We were there at an off time, so there was no wait and it was easy to get one of the 4 or 5 tables, but I read some reviews that talked about how busy it is. Also, the bathroom is not in the building. I understand though that the restaurant is young and honestly I don’t think I’d change any of this because food is just so dang good. Overall: WOULDGOBACKTOCALIFORNIAJUSTFORTHESEPIES! Also to the owner, if you ever want to franchise, I call dibs on Chicago and would love to open an Aussie Pie Kitchen here. Thanks for a great final meal in Cali.

This review is a little late but still worth putting it out there. We came here late December around 9−10pm-ish. I’ve been wanting to try this place for almost a year now. The shop wasn’t packed and I expected pies had been sitting on the counter for a while. We were allowed to sample the sides they had and each one of them tasted so good! We ended up getting… Shepard’s pie w/mashed potatoes, mashed yams, gravy, and their stuffing kind of thing. –Everything was very tasty. Although, not the best pie crusts I’ve had in my life(even compared to pie crusts that were cold). I do hold higher standards for LA restaurants. –When you think pie and mashed potatoes… you think HOT comfort food that warms up your tummy but our sides were nice and hot, the outside rim of the pie was very warm… but the inside core was room temp… which was very unsatisfying Bread pudding –We were very excited for this but again, it was re-heated(which I don’t have a huge issue with) but it was like a somewhat stiff sponge… I guess just not my style of bread pudding? I imagine ooey-gooey HOT bread PUDDING. Not very pudding-y here… –Temp was warm… even the chocolate chips had a hard time melting! –This was just not good to me and the price was not worth what I got. I think there’s a lot of potential… but I’ve never had food that was not HOT enough for me… until now. Will probably try again someday…

Before we get started on this review in full disclosure I am a New Zealander and half my family lives in Australia, I’ve had thousands of pies in my life. I’m more than qualified to review meat pies. Though I applaud the owners on introducing Americans to one of our favorite foods, I do feel they took it overboard and made it way too American. This is about as authentic as Teriyaki Sauce(based on Japanese Sukiyaki but it’s American). For someone like myself, the chances are you will be less than satisfied. For someone who has never had a meat pie then you might actually like it. My number 1 issue is the crust, which is far better suited to an apple pie than a meat pie. It crumbles and falls apart. Pies in Australia for the most part are a hand food, so I assumed I could take this out of the tin and eat it, this resulted in hot sloppy bits falling down my tits. Burning breasts… lol…not what I was looking for. My number 2 issue is the mince(ground beef) which I found very bland and dry. My 3rd issue is the price, but then I guess it relates to location, my personal price point for a meat pie is less than $ 5 bucks, I don’t even think Jetstar Airlines charges that much for a pie. My final issue is this is the only pie shop I’ve ever seen that doesn’t sell sausage rolls. I was disappointed in this pie and don’t foresee myself returning for another, but kudos to the owner on a nice shop and finally atleast getting some Americans interested. Cheers!

As an Australian… there aren’t many food you can call Australian Food. Aussie Meat pies are one of the very few that has some popularity even in other countries like in the United States. Growing up… Meat pies like these were pretty much the cafeteria food that was served to us on a regular basis. After many years of not being able to taste some authentic Meat Pies like these… it felt GREAT to be reunited. What differs an Aussie pie with a regular American chicken pot pie are some factors including how the crust was made, usually meat consisted of minced beef(although other meat variables can occur too), often with mashed potato and gravy and the flavoring of the sauce inside. Top it off with tomato sauce also known as ketchup in the states… One of the many reasons why i still put ketchup on any savory pie in general just because i am so use to it. Ordered the Classic Aussie pie which is pretty much the ingredients explained above. Tender flavorful beef in a delicious crust topped with ketchup. Now that i think about it… it’s saddening that i didn’t get to try the other flavors. You can dramatically taste the difference between an awesome Aussie Pie and a microwaveable pot pie from the grocery market. Awesome pies! Awesome Service! Awesome Reunion! 5⁄5 Pies!

Never heard of Aussie pies before. It’s awh-ZEE, not awh-see, btw. My boyfriend corrected me on my pronunciation and he introduced me to these meat pies, which he ate almost every day in elementary school back in Australia. He said the ones we tried here tasted pretty close to the ones in Australia, but it’s better back there. I let him do the ordering. He ordered the classic Aussie pie. We got mashed potatoes. There were two different kinds, but I can’t remember what. They plopped that on the plate first and put the meat pie right on top like it was a hat. It had a cutout at the bottom of it so when you broke into the crust of the meat pie, you’d scoop it up along with the meat and the mashed potatoes. There was gravy poured on top too! Back in Australia, they eat it with ketchup on top. I tried it this way too and it was good! There were other sides you could choose to add as well, like mac and cheese! We had way too much food this day so we chose to lay off any additional sides. Definitely yummy meat pies! Hope to one day try the ones in Australia!

Yuuuuuuuuum! Came here because I work near by and heard they have a vegan option called the vegan pinwheel. The vegan pin wheel is made to order so I had to call in advance so they could make it for me, I called and placed an order for pick up. By the time my lunch came around it was ready. It was SO delicious! It was doughy and stuffed with veggies to perfection. I wanted another one but I ate just the one for the sake of my waist line. The only thing I regret is I didn’t notice they had sides to choose from :/ I’m excited to return to Aussie pie! That vegan pin wheel is calling my name!

Aussie pies= food coma. Great service, so friendly…, but the food. Omg. Ridiculously delicious. I had the vegetarian summer squash pie so I can only imagine how good the meat pies are. I’m definitely going back for breakfast sometime. This is a must try in Santa Monica. And btw it’s BYOB-no charge! Do it!!!

My new favorite Aussie meat pie place. The brekkie pie with sausage and cheddar is described as «like a quiche». I love quiche. So, okay. It was indeed, like a great quiche. Aussies are serious about their coffee. They use organic beans from Vittoria, an Aussie company. My flat white was excellent. Service was very friendly from a young guy who shared that he’s feeling lost about whether to pursue grad school, or just start a career. Much friendlier and down to earth service than down the street at Espresso Cielo. It’s a nice looking small space, clean with several tables inside. Metered parking on the street.

I like pie and I cannot lie. * GET — Any of their pies(on display), opted for Chicken Tarragon alone. Combos offered too. Pie was flaky, hot, meaty and hearty. Slightly saltier than I’m used to but otherwise good. * YES — Tiny casual shop, few tables inside and on sidewalkl * YES — Friendly, fast service * YES — Manager/owner was warm & friendly. was chatting w/everyone and came around * YES — Grab for quick bite to eat-in or dine-out * WOA(words of advice): — Plenty of meter parking nearby(or try back lots) — Accepts credit cards

Three stars for the pie, five stars for the flat white coffee(!!!). I wouldn’t have guessed it either. Note: street parking, minimal seating, ample outlets, free wifi — makes for a great study spot to come back to… just to order another flat white! I had the classic in a tiger stack(as recommended by both Unilocal and the people working there). It was sandwiched between mashed potatoes and mushy peas. The pie had a great crust but I found the filling just mediocre. The peas were tasteless and the mashed potatoes were on the blander side. It’s a big portion, so it’ll definitely fill you up and more! But I didn’t really look forward to the leftovers.

What a pleasant surprise! Literally the BESTPIE I’ve EVERHAD in my entire life! The service was over-the-top incredible. They gave us a small cup of the mushy peas for free and they were magnificent! I also can’t get over how good the coffee was! I honestly liked it better than *gasp* Intelligentsia. I know you’re thinking I’m crazy at this point but its worth stopping in!

On a late Saturday night after hitting a few bars/lounges, Aussie Pies will still be open to serve you something warm and hearty. Its the perfect time to visit without the wait. For normal hours, I suggest getting lots of quarters or plan on walking. They are also good to go and perfect for conventional ovens. Aussie’s pot pies come in individual portions. I tired the Steak and Shiraz which was highly recommended($ 8.98). The crust was crisp and flakey not too dry. I ordered the White stack which is $ 4.00 more. With the white stack, your pie sits directly on the garlic mash potato and drizzled with thyme gravy.(ASK for extra gravy! Its so creamy, you’ll thank me later.) The pies don’t look big but with the stacked add-ons, its pretty filling. I recommend sharing! That’s also a good excuse to try other pies! Enjoy!
