Amazing pizza… Not sparkling clean but the pizza is amazing … This place is happening always…

Still my favorite NY pizza in Socal. However, in today’s times, its NOT cool to charge a customer who just paid 18.00 for a plain pie an extra 1.00 for a refill. What does it cost to refill a soda? ½ a cent? I despise when business nickle and dime a customer, especially a loyal customer like myself.

Have had both a slice and a whole pie here on different occasions, I would say that the NY comparisons are perhaps a bit overhyped. Prices average, service average, product average to slightly above. Like other comments, I would agree that this falls short of the only proper NY pizza institution in Southern California, San Diego’s Bronx Pizza. I would mainly say that the crust feels really pointless, which is disappointing and obviously wrong. Still, open until 2am, you can do worse for drunk pizza.

Don’t call 15 minutes before closing expecting to get a pizza delivered. WUT?! My rating used to be 3 stars because the service is garbage and I feel like they hide behind this we’re a NY pizza joint thing. Except I’ve lived in NY, and they may have attitudes in NY(mostly edgy and mostly adorable) but they still go out of there way to make you happy. This LA Joe’s, they just have attitudes. Oh and btw, Joe’s pizza is decent but it’s not NY good. Here in Santa Monica I’d rather go to Slice Truck, their ingredients are infinitely better. Since Unilocal/Joe’s took down my last review, I’m changing my rating to 1.

Had to have the pizza delivered twice! First time the cheese had slid off during the drive over. When I did finally get to eat the pizza, it was less than dair. Sauce was dull and sausage was not flavorful. Overall not a place I would recommend to my friends or even enemies. Was very disappointed.

I love their chess pizza! It’s crispy and tasty and quiet cheap(just $ 3 for each slice) it’s a good choice if you want a quick meal.

East of the Hudson River, hole-in-the-wall NY-style pizza joints are the norm. In California, I’ve run across a few upscale NY-style pizza pretenders, but none with pizza that actually tastes like the real deal. Joe’s Pizza is the real deal; a completely authentic hole-in-the-wall NY pizza joint with pizza that’s completely legit! It’s a block away from the Santa Monica Pier, just up the street from Ocean Avenue. It’s a good alternative to some fancier and more expensive restaurants in that area. My partner in crime and I walked the half mile from Philz coffee to Joe’s one day because my Pizza Jones required a fix. We shared a regular slice with Grandma’s home-made Marinara , and a Sicilian slice with cheese and sauce.
While the quality of the pizza is head-and-shoulders above what you usually find in California, I’d rate the regular pizza no higher than a 6.5 on my NY-style pizza quality scale; that last half a point is there soley because of the excellent kick from Grandma’s Marinara sauce. The Sicilian pizza is Joe’s strong suit; I totally LOVED the Sicilian pizza dough. My rating for Joe’s Sicilian pizza is a 7.5. Like typical NYC pizza places, the atmosphere at Joe’s is truly minimal; there are just a couple of tables inside, and on hot summer days it’s easy to imagine yourself in Coney Island rather than Santa Monica. Tip: Come checkout Joe’s pizza, but when the weather is good don’t eat inside. Instead, grab a couple of slices and head for the Pier :-) Joe’s Pizza is fresh, hot, and good. Anyone who’s craving pizza the way you find it in the Big Apple should stop by to check it out when they’re in the neighborhood.

The best pizza I have had in California. The closest to a slice in NYC. I wish they were closer to woodland hills.

Ordered a pizza online. I live within the delivery area shown on their website. After an hour and a half and no pizza I called for a status and was told«your delivery is on the way.» Another 30 minutes later, still no pizza. I called again and was told my order was actually cancelled(2 hours ago) because they were too busy to deliver(3 miles away). I received no cancellation call or email to that effect. That is TERRIBLE service. They have the best pizza in town IMO but don’t order for delivery because they could cancel at will and you would never know.

Bottom Line: Joe’s Pizza has a solid, thin crust, and NY style slice that’s OK, but better than any of the places I’ve tried around there that claim they are«NY style pizza by the slice» places. Atmosphere: Cool location by the water and by the bars to get your«drunk slice» fix. Food: A little pricey($ 3.00/slice for cheese). Being from NY I want a big behind slice for $ 3.00, but a slice didn’t do anything but curb my hunger and I’m a small person. It’s not bad pizza and it’s some of the best NY style I’ve had since living in LA, but it’s NOT . Someone recommend a place where they care about the way the crust tastes!!!

Solid pizza place! Right off of ocean avenue, it’s definitely a hole in the wall. Simple enough. You order a slice, they heat it up, and that’s that. The pizza is great quality! I got the margherita pizza. The crust was nice and crispy. I loved the sauce and cheese they used. They also put the basil right on top as it was coming out of the over. Just perfect!

We just loved the cheese pizza! It reminds me a little bit of when I lived in New York City — the pizza was nice and thin! They use fresh ingredients and a great cheese blend. Also try the garlic knots — very tasty! It was nice because they deliver — the pizza was still very hot when he got to our place! I would definitely recommend for a quick meal or snack.

Finding good New York style pizza in Los Angeles… a few places are kind of okay, most are mediocre. Sadly this one falls towards the latter. The toppings and cheese looked to be in the right proportions, potentially great, but when we got to eating, the crust was bland and way too crackery– crunchy and not much else. We hoped to enjoy our slices of tomato basil, but I personally wasn’t all that impressed by the taste of the toppings either. Price is okay, considering the primo rent they have to be paying. Verdict: so-so. If you can give up on the idea of authentic NY-style pizza on the left coast, that might be a better thing…

Probably one of the best NY style pizzas in the OC/LA areas, although to be fair I don’t have NY style pizza all too often.(Bronx Pizza in SD still wins!) The prices for the huge slices are pizza are pretty fair considering the location and how close you are to the Santa Monica pier. It’s a good choice if you don’t want to spend exorbitant amounts on food at the restaurants in this area. I recommend the Garlic knots as well, they’re only $ 0.50 a piece and if you’re a garlic lover like me, it’ll be right up your alley. They’re super quick and your pizza should come out fast. I was pretty stuffed with two slices and a couple of garlic knots. Next time I’ve decided I’ll take my slices to-go and walk to the pier :)

Best Pizza I have had in a long time. Maybe it was because I just danced my butt off for a few hours next door but all I can remember is this pizza being so amazing! I ordered the Spinach and Tomato Pizza and it was so good I wish I had ordered two slices. I would come out here from Redondo Beach just to have another slice. I love that they are open when the clubs are closing, that way you can get a quick bite to eat afterward.

A hole in the wall pizza joint on Broadway. This place is overshadowed by the bars and shops, but don’t be fooled, this place is legit. Came here with a friend and grabbed a slice of caprese– running about $ 4 a slice. They put the pizza in the oven to warm it up which also makes it crunchy every time you take a bite. They don’t have pepper shakers out on the table so you’ll have to ask — that is if you’re a fan of pepper flakes :)! Their garlic knots are good as well, a bit doughy in the middle, but will only cost you 50 cents a piece. I do advise to pop a couple mints in your mouth after though cause they’re more than generous on putting garlic on their knots and the flavor will linger in your mouth. Delicious thin crust pizza, yum!

Garlic knots are only 50cents each! And they are so bomb with their house-made marinara sauce. Get it please. For pizzas, I always get the«Grandma» slice for $ 4. It’s basically a Margherita pizza. I love the chewy mozzarella on top though. If only they’d put more!

I get that it is exciting to buy pizza by the slice, especially if you have ever enjoyed that NYC luxury. However, this is nowhere near as good as an NY slice. The price isn’t terrible and it’s right off the beach where all the yuppie restaurants are. So it’s nice to have the option. Straight up, the local homeless guy told us that this place isn’t as good since the new people took over. And I feel like he would know. I’m gonna stick with the locals on this one. **If you want some great pizza or Italian food, check out Bruno’s on Ocean Ave.

I generally don’t like pizza… butttttttt I like it here! Whenever I watch the food channel on tv, the shows are always showcasing New York pizza and I always wonder what is so bomb about NY style pizza… And now I know! The pizza slice is huge and the crust is SO crispy and bomb. You literally hear the crunch of the crust as you bite into your pizza. The margherita was so delicious with the big chunks of mozzarella, tomatoes and basil. The pizza sauce wasn’t overpowering and it had the perfect amount of toppings. The pizza isn’t greasy either, thank goodness. I absolutely despise greasy pizza. The garlic knots are so oily but I don’t mind it. I love the mix of garlic and oil with bread! You see huge chunks of garlic on the bread! Never a bad thing for garlic lovers. Random story time! We were sitting outside on the stool seating and as I was pouring the chili flakes onto my pizza, I used the wrong opening and half the bottle spilled onto my pizza. People who were walking by and people who could see from inside all exclaimed«daaaaaaamnnnnnnn that sucks!» as I stared at my pizza, defeated. I still ate that shit anyways! Thug life Can’t wait to go back! :)
