I am from out of town and stumbled upon this place just walking around Santa Monica. I forget the teachers name but it was a donation class Sunday evening. The class was awesome she dimmed the lights and played great music to flow to. She taught us how to jump from down dog that has made a huge difference in my practice! Any time I am visiting I will defiantly be going to this studio.

Amazing studio! Classes run from morning to late at night to accommodate many schedules. Been to many of the evening and weekend classes and have loved all the instructors! I’ve only been doing yoga since summer and the classes helped me get up to speed with the regulars. The teachers are great at modifying the practice for beginners and pushing those who are more advanced. The classes are donation-based and yoga mats are $ 2 rental if you don’t have your own. It’s very affordable compares to an expensive gym membership!

How can this be right, how do I not have a review for Santa Monica Poweryoga on 2nd street yet. Next door to the Ye Olde Kings Head, Santa Monica Poweryoga is a sanctuary on 2nd street. I’ve always wondered if the hostel next door advertises it’s prime location next to one of the best studios on the westside. Although I live on the other side of the hill, I find myself trekking the 405 once a week to indulge in one of Bryan’s or Rudy’s classes. It’s my soul fuel. I highly, highly recommend power yoga to anyone who finds themselves bored with a slower paced yoga and not so into uniting«movement with breath.» In Bryan’s class I feel like after reaching a personal peak in exhaustion there is this AHA! moment when the find is so silent and focused and for the first time you notice your breath. That’s when yoga got me, I haven’t been the same since!

Okay so I gave a half ass review back in 8⁄2010 for a place that I can’t live without. I owe it to fellow yoga folks to articulate a little more than…“love it!.” Rudy«Monster» Mettia, our instructor… truly rocks. I had previous misconceptions about yoga in general(too mainstream, too«fou-fou», does not give me a good workout, for flexible people ONLY). Taking Rudy’s class for the first time back in 2010 changed all of those misconceptions for me. When you walk into that studio, you will see people from all walks of life, different fitness levels and surprisingly a lot of men! Rudy is very popular among the students so his classes are always jam packed… about 90 — 120 people avg. The classes are 90 mins long and it’s not for you if you’re germ-phobic or cluastophobic. There will be puddles of people’s sweat all around you, including your own sweat(and that is guaranteed). Good news is there are a lot of good looking people so the cons are pretty minor in comparison, lol. They don’t heat up the rooms like Bikram’s yoga(which I used to practice but quit after feeling lightheaded). You’re just pretty much cooking in your own body heat, lol. A good flow is essential in any yoga practice. Rudy takes his class from 30 mins of warm up, 30 mins of intensity and 30 mins cool down. I love when he has us chant«OM’s»…I feel liberated each time. I love the fact that he has military background so his style of teaching is almost bootcamp and it’s just the way I like it! Did I mentioned the fact that Rudy is a crack up? I love his dry sense of humor and how he has the class balling for hours on end. This is my kind of yoga and I’ve been practicing since April 20103 – 4 times a week. The classes are donation basis, btw… Give it a try and you won’t regret it.
