Hmmm… I don’t like the way this doctor works… not one bit. Seems unethical to me. So, I went to an in-network hospital to have an ultrasound done. Then I get the bill for the doctor’s analysis of the results. SURPRISE! I am billed for the entire amount, because the doctor is out of network! WHAT? Why is an out of network doctor interpreting the results of the test, when I went to an in-network hospital? I spoke with Isla at Doctor Taw’s office, and she said that it has happened before! She would not let me speak to the doctor regarding this. Turns out, Dr Taw is not in network with any insurance plan, except Medicare! Yet, he is on a rotating list of doctors that the hospital uses to read results of tests. Why would he continue to be on this list, you ask? Because Dr. Taw makes more money if it comes out of a patients pocket, instead of it being paid by insurance, that’s why! To add insult to injury, the billing office adds a 1.5% finance charge if you don’t pay your bill within 60 days of service, even though they must know that most people will have issues with the billing. Nice people. Luckily, I appealed and my insurance did pay the bill. But that doesn’t make this situation right.
