Toppers Restaurant at the Radisson

Okay, I know I’m reviewing a place that doesn’t exist anymore but I MISS TOPPERS! The margaritas were strong and they always had that guitar guy on Thursday nights. So fun so fun. We went there after it changed hands and it was this antiseptic, white table cloth, Americanized monstrosity. Bring Toppers Back!!!

Loved this place… there’s something about getting 2 martinis for the price of one, or free chips and salsa for happy hour or $ 5 margaritas that just makes me happy…
what makes me sad is that they are now closed and replacd by the Penthouse.

My boyfriend and I went there on our first date and it was so magical. We go for our anniversary every year and there couldn’t be a better place to enjoy it than this one.

Definately would have rather came here for Happy Hour than dinner. This was the 15^th day of the re-​opening, called I guess The Penthouse (though the menu said Toppers) The prices were a bit pricey. appetizers started at around $ 15, entress starting at $ 25-​$ 30. Not a lot to choose from. My date and I only had time for a couple of appetizers and a glass of wine (a glass of Ramsey cost $ 11, you can buy a whole bottle for $ 16.95) But the décor was beautiful, the views breathtaking and a fun overall atmosphere. Will go again for happy hour some time.

RIP Toppers… it’s now called The Penthouse. :(

Okay now you have the good stuff out of the way. Being on top of a building kind of makes this a no brainer great dating location. However, it is always noisy enough to wear earplugs and be prepared for the $ 9 drink prices except during happy hour.
I’ve only been here twice. Both were not so memorable except for the view. Maybe lunch next time … you know, during the daylight hours.

This fancy Mexican place has good food, the right drinks, and what a perfect location. At the top of the hill on the 18^th floor to Top it off a beautiful view of both the ocean to the west, and Santa Monica to the south. The floor is divided in 2 which gives you the exclusiveness of avoiding large groups and single you and your honey out in a personal and quiet feel. Excellent setting for a romantic dinner at the peak of Sunset and end it with a chocolaty soufflé with home made whipped cream on Top. The promenade is 1 block away if your into shopping (don’t spoil her too much), and the peer is down the street if you want to get a little playful with the park rides and games. Win her a prize, and go down «Under the BoOrdwalk» (fue en un caf in spanish), and get smoochy!

Toppers has always been my back-​pocket date place. Good location for drinks after dinner elsewhere, that kind of thing. The view is spectacular up the coast towards Malibu.
The place is also really good for happy hour. Nice specials on margaritas and appetizer-​type food (recommend the calamari tacos). Around the time the sun sets be prepared to fight like a dog for a table. Its worth it though, because its a great place to watch the sun sink into the Pacific Ocean.
The view raises this place from three stars to four.

I don’t remember much from my visit so bear with me. All I know is that I was dragged here on a date and the rest is a bit blurry. My date knew the people who ran this joint and the drinks were flowing like a water fountain. The margaritas were delicious, strong, but delicious! Just how I like my men ;)
Speaking of water I did have to piss a lot because alcohol does that to me. I’m sure you can relate. I went to the restroom and the very last stall had a spectacular view of the ocean. I’ve never taken my time pissing before. It was a beautiful sight… the view that is you pervs ;)
Got back after my 15 minute view/​peeing fest and dinner was served. We had some delicious appetizers. Nachos I think? Again the night was a bit blurry. They were tasty. The views from the restaurant are beautiful. Go if your into that «romantic vibe.» Stay for the margaritas! I know I did. I just wish I got laid after all that romantic crap I had to sit through!

Work is done, and you are looking for a happy hour spot. Swing by Toppers, located at the top of the Radisson Hotel in Santa Monica. If you come in time, you’ll be able to catch a beautiful sunset over the ocean, as well as get a great deal for the happy hour food. The drink specials are limited, but it’s got a lively atmosphere. Come with one friend or bring over a party. However, if you come with many, try to get there early, otherwise you may end up waiting for a seat or be scattered throughout the restaurant.
