I have visited the Painted Pony farm on several occasions — Pam and Steve invite me out once or twice a year when they have Girl Scout troops coming to see their animals and farm. I come out as an unpaid guest lecturer to compliment the farm visit and help the Girl Scouts earn a badge for learning about wildlife. The Painted Pony is a full time, fully operational EDUCATIONAL farm. Their focus is on teaching kids the ins and outs of farm life and the daily care and life of the farm animals. It is a real farm and the farm animals have real fates. When I was there last weekend they were selling a bunch of piglets. Maybe for breeding/stud or maybe to grow up to be food. They stress the fact that they’re a real farm and not a petting zoo or other«entertainment» animal operation. Pam and Steve(who run the farm) are both really nice and friendly people. They are really good with kids and with their animals(of course) and it’s always a pleasure to visit them.

The Painted Pony is a great place to take your kids for camp. Not only do you get to rest easy knowing that your children are in great hands with the Colvard family, but they get to spend their days learning about farm animals in beautiful and scenic Santa Paula. The Colvards are so knowledgeable about handling many small children as they have worked for many many years at local elementary schools. I highly recommend the Painted Pony as a destination for your children’s summer camp.

The Painted Pony Farm is where I grew up. My parents built the entire farm from the ground up. This business is family owned and opperated. Since my brother and I are now grown adults we have our own lives and jobs. I’m a photographer/Artist and Nick is a Marine Biologist. Our parents Steve and Pam are early to rise and call it a day when the sun goes down. They do all the maintenance themselves. Feeding and caring for somewhere around 60 animals, Veggie garden, Apple Orchard, Rose Garden, Farm House and 5 acers of land, oh and let’s not forget the over 5,000 school kids they give educational field trips to, Summer Day Camp on the Farm and Pumpkin Patch in the Fall. This Family Farm is an experience and you’ll make memories for a lifetime!
