In the interest of full disclosure I should mention that I worked with Dan 20 years ago (long before Blackbird Audio) and I consider him a friend. On the other hand, if I didn’t admire this business I wouldn’t bother posting anything.

Dan is as knowledgable about audio gear as anyone out there, but it’s obvious that music comes first in his world. He’s more likely to show off a new album than a new amplifier, even though he doesn’t sell records. He also stresses optimizing the equipment you already own rather than chucking everything and throwing money around. Blackbird carries stuff ranging from, «why, that’s pretty darn cheap» to, «maybe when I win the lottery» and most of it can’t be found elsewhere in San Diego. And if you get your music online or otherwise employ a computer in the service of music, he carries suitable products that don’t sound like crap. In short, if you love music but need better stuff to play it on, this is the best place in the county.

If you are looking for that close and personal attention for audiophile, then Blackbird Audio is the place for you. I discovered Blackbird Audio by sheer luck when I was looking for a new amplifier. Dan was the only local dealer for Pass and so I called. Not having a wealth of knowledge of Hi-​Fidelity, Dan took the time to educated me and make sure I was thoroughly informed on what I wanted to accomplish for my listening desires. Dan was not a salesman but a educator. He made me feel more like a friend that a potential customer and with the cost of high end equipment, that is what this audiophile wanted from a dealer, that up-​close and personal touch. So far I have purchased several items from Blackbird Audio and not a SINGLE one have I been disappointed with. I mean where else can you personally meet the owner and CEO of one of the biggest names in audio George and Colleen Cardas but at Dan’s Music Nights!!!

I was looking for a high end stand alone CD player and he got me the best one out there for the best price. He is a very relaxed gentleman not a pushy sales man at all, very trust worthy and very reliable.
To audition any piece of gear you need to call and set an appointment. His setup is at home, I personally feel its the best way to audition equipment, because it will sound the same when you move it from his home to yours. I’ve been to HI-​end audio stores like SOUND COMPANY, STEREO DESIGN, SOUND IDEAS, STEREO UNLIMITED, MODERN HOME SYSTEMS etc… Black Bird Audio is the best.
