Going to Canvas Café is always a treat. The first time we went there it was a bit of an accident and we hear a rumor and decided to drop in. The place is supper small so it is still amazing to me we got a table. So make reservations! But ever since then we’ve had some pretty amazing dinners and discovered great wine at the Canvas Café. The last time I went, a couple of weeks ago, I had the lamb. It was perfectly cooked, earthy and beautiful. We also had the scallops which were such a different thing, so light and full of the ocean, you didn’t want to share or trade bites between dishes because both were so good but so different. A long time favorite here is the gazpacho. This time we didn’t have that and tried the goat cheese with tomato marmalade and one of the arugula salad creations. Both good, but the marmalade was a bit sweet. but loved how they caramelized the goat cheese. Don’t be afraid to ask about a wine you have not heard of and listen to what they recommend. I have not gone wrong yet doing this at Canvas and have discovered some very nice things this way. Get something different here than your usual favorites. One of the things I love about this place is the menu changes about every 3 – 4 months and they are always trying out new wine. A good place to experience some creative and well done food. Not everything is a hit out of the ball park, but I’ve had some very memorable meals at Canvas. Service is always very good and I have never felt rushed out. If I want to sit and enjoy the wine, they don’t try to run you off to turn over the table. Very relaxing and a nice place to slow down. You owe it to yourself to call them, make a reservation and enjoy sitting on their deck before it is too hot to eat outside. You won’t be sorry.
