Eternal Reefs is an organization, which with the help of Reef Innovations, creates artificial reefs memorialize your loved one. Mixing the ashes of your loved one together with the cement mixture, you can create a home for wildlife under the sea. And life goes on. The people at Reef Innovations and Eternal Reefs are amazingly professional. Not only do they do their job well, they work very well with the people who come through. They understand that they are doing something very special, but at the same time, something that is very emotional. They do it with finesse, understanding, as well as a sense of humour. The process is a two day process, each day about one month apart from each other. On the first day, you will create the reef my mixing the remains with cement. You then decorate your reef with handprints and shells if you choose to. And each reef will have a beautiful plaque on it(which is added by the team there a few days after you create the reef itself), with the name of your loved one on it. A month later you will come back for the viewing and the sinking of your reef. The reef is dried and ready to become part of a new reef colony. After the reef has been sunk, you can snorkel or dive it. Because it’s at about 30ft depth, it’s easy to visit. This is a very interesting way to do something different to a standard, traditional funeral. Granted, I’m sure it’s not for everyone. But for anyone who is looking for something non-traditional, this is a great idea. And it leaves something beautiful behind, that will help the underwater world thrive.
