Sarasota Sailing Squadron (SSS) is one of the best places to sail in the world. The members are friendly, low key, welcoming and down-​to-​earth. Nothing pretentious here, it’s a non-​profit sailing organization, not a yacht club.
The venue is large, with a great open air patio and stage for live music. There’s also a clubhouse and massive outdoor BBQ. Hot showers await after you sail.
The Junior Program is outstanding, so get your kids outdoors and sailing instead of hibernating in their rooms addicted to their video games.
I just attended a week-​long Regatta at SSS and it was well run, fun, and safe. I drove over from California to come here, and it was worth every mile!

Been a member here for a year and a half. This place is phenomenal!
First: This is sailing club for normal people, ie not the Yachting club. Every one I’ve met there is great. The location is unreal as well. We like to go sailing, and then do a bbq/​hangout in the park right there, or BBQ in the large outdoor grills they have right on site. There are a few areas to hang out and look at the bay as well. basically, we usually have more people than we’d put on the boat (Catamaran) and everyone can sit inside the clubhouse or on the pavilion.
Also they do events and parties. I’ve been to a few and had a great time, good food. Can’t say enough about this place.
They also started renting out small schooners or sunfish. I’m not certain what they have but that’s a cool new addition as well.

We had our daughter’s wedding reception at the Squadron last month. It was a super relaxed atmosphere and Nelly and Craig (Asst Manager and Manager) were very helpful. You can join for the year at a very reasonable rate and book to have your reception there. You will have to decorate or hire someone to decorate if you want it to be dressed up for your event but it is also beautifully relaxed with the water and boats in the background.

My dad is a member here. It’s so relaxing and it’s a great place to hold an event. I went to a rehearsal bbq there and it was a perfect setting. They have a huge grill, tables, a covered dining area and indoor facilities too. There’s plenty of parking also. It’s secluded enough that if you want to hold a private event you can achieve it. No one will come and bug you. I haven’t been there on any other occasions, so I can’t comment on the other types of events that go on there.

THE perfect place to catch the sun setting over Sarasota Bay and subsequently watch the full moon rise on the other side of the Bay. Holy Cow was that cool! All the while jamming out to a local reggae band and sipping rum punch… Heaven.
