This place sucks balls, slow service, long wait for the food, improperly cooked, way over priced. The new owner is trying and failing to do what bill jardine and Lucy cadamore once did in the 80s, and badly. These people have no clue how to properly run. a restaurant, when you complain they don’t fix it, they gVe me a smart ass answer and rolled their eyes. I have been a chef at way better places than this and frankly, I’ll never go.back. Don’t waste your time or money. The meat is sub par, the cooks not well trained. Very poorly ran operation.

This place has a comfortable rustic atmosphere. They give you all kinds of appetizers and then dinner which is more than enough. Good service. Nice for special occasions.

We’ve been coming here for years and I couldn’t be more obsessed. The J Barn is like having dinner at a neighbor’s farm with the warm, inviting ambiance, local food and cheerful company. The appetizers are included with dinner, served family style — veggies/dip, ambrosia, rolls & banana bread with butter or apple butter, fried mushrooms and I may even be forgetting one. They’re incredible in their own right. But every course gets better. My father is always pleased with their steaks — and he’s extra picky about his cuts of meat. I tend to do stuffed portobellos or a seafood dish. The desserts are maybe the best part — homemade and they never disappoint. I go with peanut butter pie or chocolate mousse cheesecake, and I always have leftovers. The food takes longer to prepare, but it has always been worth the wait for the quality. I do wish they still had their liquor license, though you can byob or buy a bottle of local wine to enjoy during your meal. There was a mystery dinner theater party held here a few weeks ago, it was a wonderful event. I’m looking forward to more in the future — although I would suggest having a set menu price for the evening to avoid confusion at the end(ie $ 35 for your meal — includes apps, choice of a few dinners, choice of a few desserts and your beverage).

We wanted to try something new. So we said let’s try J Barn country inn. It’s a little out if the way, but was so worth it! The atmosphere was warm and friendly the service was awesome ! It’s great to find a place that knows how to cook a steak! Perfect! As soon as you order they bring you apps to eat, part of the deal! So cool! The lobster ravioli was killer! And save room for desert ! Every thing is fresh made and delicious ! We will be back

Very cozy and comfortable and clean. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive. You automatically get with your entrée a few apps. We got breaded fried mushrooms, basket of rolls, sweet bread, butter & apple butter. You will also get a little plate of dip and vegetables and a bowl of home made ambrosia. For our entrees we ordered the«Hoof and Claw»(Steak w/crab ravioli) came with seasonal veg, & crab stuffed flounder. Both came with of potato(baked, fried, sweet) Entrees were cooked well, portions were decent and we left quite full. I do recommend that if you order steak you get it as rare as you can possible stand. The cuts of meat are definately prime and if you get them too well done you will, no doubt, kill the taste. Ours was med rare and it was delicious. I think my favorite thing tonight was the lobster ravioli, I could have eaten an entire plate of them. The deserts we outrageously decadent !! We were too full to eat one there but we did take one home to enjoy later. This place has a nice selection of entrees, no crazy concoctions, there is something for everyone. The reason I gave it 3 stars is because the menu items were very basic for my taste. My preference is more adventurous choices. The food is basic but tasty.

Visit J-Barn once or twice a year but always regret we don’t go more often. We love the appetizers. The only thing I ever get is the steak because I think its the best in the Greater Pittsburgh area. I encourage everyone to visit this wonderful restaurant.

Four years ago on our wedding night we had dinner at the JBarn. It was not what we expected. The service was lousy. We waited an unbelievable amount of time for a table, and my crab cakes were burned on one side(conveniently plated with the burned side down). All of that said we decided to give it another chance tonight(our anniversary) because a friend insisted they had dined there recently and it was very good. Having grown up in the area I have fond memories of wonderful home style meals here. Tonight I was not disappointed. The family style appetizers were delicious and just as I remembered them. I had the Irish Cream Chicken. It was out of this world! The sauce was tantalizing and the walnut crusted chicken was perfect. The waitress was cordial and efficient and we were seated quickly. We will be back!

Off the beaten path, and such a hidden gem in the region! The atmosphere is family friendly, the staff is wonderful, and the food is amazing. Whether it be a small gathering or large party, the J Barn can handle it. The portion sizes make you feel like you got your money’s worth, and the thought of ever leaving hungry is baffling, especially in considering I’ve been a patron a number of times and have never had room for dessert. I highly recommend the J Barn and will continue to recommend it to those who’ve never tried it. As for a recommended menu item, wait til you try the Hawaiian Tilapia!

We took the recommendation of someone else on Unilocal and what a treat! Off the beaten path from rt 356 we were delighted with the chicken offerings, the complimentary appetizers, and the delicious dessert cakes. Well worth the 5 miles out of our way!

2013 family update — another nice experience characterized by huge portions of appetizers and entrees. Tried the filet mignon this year, which was cooked perfectly to order and at a reasonable price. Still have yet to try the dessert. This year it occurred to us that this place is amazingly crowded for 5p dinner. It also occurred that it would benefit from an actual appetizer menu, some sandwich selections, and an improved variety and quality of beverages. Heard that the place is for sale, so we’ll see if it is still the same for our anticipated return in 2014.

From the out side it looks like just a regular old house and the décor inside is all country. Friendly enough staff, service was a little slow for all the more busy they were though. I got a salad that was massive! I had to get another plate to put some on so I could eat it. The steak was tender, done just right, and had a great flavor. Could of used less iceberg lettuce and more spring mix to it. Over all it was good and I would go back an eat here some time.

As a Californian on a jaunt in western Pennsylvania I found this gem by asking about a good place for dinner in the area at a mom-n-pop winery. Take your appetite. Very solid fare, good country ambiance, and nice service.
