We went back again a few weeks ago, and if possible, our stay was even more amazing! Erica was amazing and remembered us(and our restrictions) and made the most incredible GF banana pancakes, which we absolutely inhaled. So delicious, with tons of fresh berries and maple syrup! And she had the best homemade granola I’ve ever had — we all loved it — perfectly toasted, full of all sorts of nuts and dried fruit, it was just the right snack with a pot of yogurt. Erica even left us chocolate stuffed GF chocolate chip cookies and they were so decadent and wonderful! Again, we felt incredibly cared for and loved being in her presence. And because we were guests at the Homestead, our nearly 4 year old got to go out and feed the animals at 7 — 9 with Kellie, who was so great with her. Kellie was patient and explained so much, and went out of her way to answer L’s questions and help her meet the animals. L was over the moon! And at night, we walked through the fields, saying good night to the animals and bumped into Kathy, which was such a treat! I can’t recommend staying at the Homestead more highly — it’s an incredibly experience and I can’t wait to go back! I really think it is magical!!!

My boyfriend allowed me to book us a trip here for my birthday gift. Since becoming vegan over two years ago, visiting a sanctuary for farm animals has been at the top of my list of places I wanted to visit. I am so glad The Homestead and CAS were the first I got to spend a weekend at. Erica was there to greet us when we arrived and she was a large part of our enjoyment of our stay. She was incredibly accommodating and friendly as could be. We enjoyed two wonderful breakfasts with her — that girl has a way with waffles and tofu scramble! Our room was lovely and comfortable with its big king sized bed and window air conditioner. The bathroom was right outside our door, and was shared with other guests. I can’t wait to return and can’t recommend The Homestead highly enough.

With its original brick walls and furniture, the Homestead is a beautiful house. Since it is two hundred years old, it is understandably creaky. However, the gorgeous décor and overall feel of the house would make me return. The innkeeper was kind and more than ready to help us with anything we needed. The vegan breakfast was a stack of pancakes with fresh berries and an array of topping choices. We also got vegan yogurt and homemade granola. Everything was absolutely delicious. The room was larger than I expected it to be from the pictures I had seen online. It was set up nicely too with the bed having a night stand on each side with a book that was related to the sanctuary or animal issues. There were also decorative coasters you could use for the cute mason jars provided for water. One negative is that three of the rooms share one bathroom. There were no other guests during my stay so I didn’t have to worry about this. But I think this would be a little annoying if there was a full house. Being only a few minutes away from the sanctuary, you can easily take a walk down the hill and take a tour. I like how the Homestead continues the sanctuary’s mission and maintains a vegan house by offering vegan and cruelty free shampoo and not permitting any non vegan food to be stored in their refrigerator. The scenery is gorgeous and I would love the chance to stay at the Homestead again.

My wife and I come here to get away from the hectic pace of living in northern New Jersey and it is the one place we go that we truly forget about everything. I can’t say enough good things about Erica and The Homestead so I’ll leave it at if you decide to visit you will not be disappointed.

My boyfriend and I have stayed in both the Rambo room and Dino room. The renovations to the house interior are gorgeous, and the design is clean and cozy. Every morning, Erica made a delicious and filling vegan breakfast. When we did run into other guests, it was really pleasant to talk to like-minded folks from different backgrounds. The location is also perfect, because it’s close to cool towns like Hudson, Red Hook, Tivoli, Kingston, Woodstock, etc. What’s the very best part of staying at The Homestead? Meeting the animals, of course: D

It is so difficult for me to choose just one aspect of my stay that was most enjoyable. Everything was wonderful! Erica’s hospitality(and her awesome cooking!); the cleanliness and welcoming atmosphere at The Homestead; meeting Kathy Stevens and having her sign my copy of her book, «Animal Camp,»; and most of all: meeting the residents of Catskill Animal Sanctuary — beautiful souls, each and every one of them!!! To each and every volunteer and staff member at CAS, I just want to say, «thank you!» YOUROCK!!!
