We had been here in the past. We had read the mixed reviews but went anyway. We had a good experience. The staff were pleasant and helpful. Penny worked very hard to get everything right. I had oysters which were plumb and very fresh. This was followed by lobster roll(Penny recommended) which was loaded with large pieces of lobster. My husband had salmon creole which was very tasty and hot. His salad was crisp, fresh, ample and cold. The rolls were warm. Popovers are not served at lunch. They can be reheated from last night and cost $ 1 each. We each had one and they were good. All in all a good experience.

I decided to visit the Continental once again, after always seeing many cars in their parking lot. What a disappointment! From the old heavy wooden front doors to the dusty, worn out plants and décor. The patrons were probably all repeat diners since the 50’s. The bread was ice cold, the salad was all rusty, and the fish and Delmonico potatoes had no taste, I left it the same way they brought it to me, untouched! It was horrible, my waitress was kind enough to take it off the bill, but the seasoned Hostess, who was an ear shot away, was not to happy to delete my meal, as I heard her asking my waitress 20 questions as to why I didn’t like my meal. How their still in business is beyond me, it has to be the loyalty of their diners. Maybe if they remodeled or hired a better Chef, they would be back on the Route 1 map…
